Schindelhauer’s Viktor is rightly named as the purist in their range. Schindelhauer set out to make bikes which are for simple in their use, elegant in their form and clever engineering to bring them to life. The Viktor takes these principles to heart as it is a bike that is truly simple yet entirely practical.
At the heart of the Viktor is a lightweight aluminium frame. The rear brake cable runs neatly inside the top tube and the seat post clamp is pleasantly integrated into the frame. You’d be forgiven for just glancing at the rear wheel dropouts, yet this clever piece of design holds your wheel in place, tensions your drivetrain and splits, to allow your belt to be fitted.
The simplicity continues with the drivetrain. Instead of using a chain, the Viktor comes with a single-speed Gates Belt Drive. Belts wear much slower than a chain and do not require lubrication to function. Maintenance-free is a bit of dream, but a belt drive is about as close as it gets. The other user operated part is a pair of calliper rim brakes: a time-tested design to keep you in control.
Schindelhauer themselves have designed the majority of the other components on the bike, including their one piece handlebar and stem and wonderful CNC urban pedals. On the practical end of things, there are mounts to install mudguards and a front rack.
Given the careful thought that Schindelhauer has given to to all aspects of the Viktor, this bike is a versatile piece of kit. Going out for a steady spin really is a joy, yet the Viktor is tough enough for daily commuting duties.
