These are my goto electronic deadbolts, I have 3 of the older Z-Wave Schlage Connects with Bowley rim mount cylinder mod and love em. (I agree Abloy is still the best as per Terry) all 3 deadbolts are paired with my GC3 alarm panel and haven't had an issue with the deadbolts in 3 years.

Great review! I am planning to get this type of lock. Only thing is you warned about not screwing into a sensor but you didn’t elaborate what that sensor was for. Looking at the online guide, it is just an alarm speaker.

The alarm does not activate on mine. Any suggestions? I checked wiring, connector, batteries.

I've owned one of these locks for about 5 years. Every year around March in Michigan I Have to contact schlage and warranty a new one. I have now switched to a tru built Hopefully I won't have to worry about this every year.

I have the same lock and I just recently found out that if you lock the door but the door is not completely shut on the app on the phone it will tell you the doors locked but The door is not actually locked because it's not closed.

Thanks for the video Mr L. I’m looking at the Encode model for my house. You mentioned changing out the cylinder for added protection. Which cylinder would you recommend for the upgrade ? Thanks again.

Sadly this lock is not avalable where i live (and even if it was, it would be incompatible with most exteriour doors here) with the type of door that we have, there is literally only 1 option for a smart lock, it has no key override, and no keypad (it uses RFID cards, and a smartphone app), and that option is from yale (yale also sell deadbolts here, but the deadbolts are intended to replace an existing nightlatch, and the ones they do sell here are all keyless ones with no key override (nightlatches are a bit of a pain as you usually need two hands to open the door where one is fitted, unless the latch has been set to stay open)

whats the best smart lock for british style nightlatch locks? yale and samsung options are a no go as have no manual key entry

I have the same setup with the wifi connected and it eats batteries. 2 1/2 months max battery life with Duracell

So can a burglar also use a cell phone with hacking software also use to open the lock? Encryption and two step verification would help as well 2 try 2 fail fail alert. Perhaps AC power cord direct to unit with battery backup would also help.

Encrypted Bluetooth. The weak points are poor password and if intergraded with home wifi not setup correctly.

What if I don’t want people inside the house to leave? For example, maybe you don’t want to let a child leave the house or open the door to strangers, is that a way to lock up both inside and outside?

You recommend not using Lithium, but don't elaborate as to why. I've not heard this mentioned before I use Lithium in my locks, why is this bad?

It makes me less confident in you when you make little to no comments about Apple Home, especially when this model is HomeKit compatible. Seems like you are stuck in the past somewhere.

The Encode is not compatible with Homekit. The Sense has 5yr old tech and the Schlage app is garbage. Yale has better connectivity options and a better app, but their ANSI rating is lower than Schlage. Schlage also has better decorative options. This entire category of smart home products has been dropping in support and quality over the years.

I like Schlage locks and their app. I am just installing a Yale Electronic lock and interface to my Liftmaster Garage opener this weekend. Let’s see how it doesn’t.

@@24hrMrLocksmith I’ve been researching what will be my next front door lock with a new door coming in the next month. I’ve had two Schlage z-waves for 6 yrs, but the front door lock has suffered failures twice from direct sunlight combined with high humidity. The internal tamper alarm, which sounds like a psychotic chirping bird, now goes off from a simple clap of thunder or a door knock! I’ve had to pull the battery pack out so people can sleep here at night. I’m leaning to Yale solely due to their interchangeable smart modules. Thinking of it as more future proof. They just look so ugly compared to Schlage!

These are pieces of garbage. Stick with BE365 or a KABA SIMPLEX (better in my opinion). This lock needs a key override. Fun to try to drill. Keypads stop working. Anything "Smart"'you can assume is dumb and just stay away from whatever it is.

I have had very good luck with them and installed them on my house. Upgrading to the Encode now.
