There's lots of this on LockPickingLawyer. But in all fairness, this safe is probably sold as a fire safe, where a customer is more concerned of protecting things from a fire than the safe being picked open. You're right about the cheap stuff being sold at WalMart. If you're looking for something really secure you got to do your research.

I live in a very cold climate, and whilst I really embrace smart home technology there’s a big problem for me. I’m not confident with electronics in extreme weather, If I get locked out at -30c nothing will matter because I’ll be a frozen human. Over the years the simplex cypher locks on businesses have worked flawlessly. For my new residential I want to install a mechanical button, with a keyed override , a simplex is overkill, so I’m leaning towards the Schlage 626, any thoughts or upgrades?

I seperated a plastic connector by sticking it in boiling hot water for 30 seconds. (Be careful to not get the keys wet.) Plastic softened. It pulled appart. I doubt if it works for metal connector.

Ive tried Pick Guns but have always preferred plain old Picking by Hand with Standard Picks. I've got a Very Good Touch and Feel for that.

This video makes me smile because of an old key I have. It is a copy of a friend’s key from my freshman year at Ohio State in 1974. No telling how many generations old this key may be. Let’s just say all the cuts are VERY rounded off. The key is an Otis Elevator service key from that time. It worked in every Otis elevator I encountered back then. I lived atop an 11 story dorm and loved having express service by running on manual! I worked in a restaurant on top of a 40 story downtown restaurant. We used the key in the service elevator to get to the roof!

Simple design, strong locks. I used to see them locks resisting all kinds of abuse. The one you have there doesn't have the electronics installed (DPS, DLS). Some facilities use a "master" key set up. Don't accidentally take one of them home. Unless you have a million dollars to re-key said facility. LOL

What if the tip broke off? Can it still be duplicated? Do they charge more to copy a broken key? This happened to me yesterday and truck's spare key got lost during home remodeling. Now I can't drive until i get this issue resolved.

Does anyone know how to remove the locks that have metal plugs where the screws should be? I can't figure out a non-destructive way to remove the plugs.
