Great video! The detachable magazine was mainly for safety reasons at the range. One could easily spot the gun to be unloaded.

Hey, great video! One thing to maybe correct if you ever redo this; the normal loading clips were a brown colour, and never had a plug. The 'plug' is in the white loading clips, and was not meant to be removed; white clips are marked for blanks only, and the plug was there on purpose, to ensure you could never load live rounds in a 'blank'-marked clip (the blanks were shorter than the normal rounds, on purpose). Also, the clip you have; it seems to be modified from an old GP90 clip. Those had just one guide groove on them, while the GP11 ones had two grooves (the GP90 and GP90/03 was paper-patched, and the second groove would damage the paper patch; the second groove was introduced to better guide the GP11 cartridges during loading). The original reason for having all that weird 'clip' was in fact to protect the paper-patches on the cartridges. The Swiss experimented with stripper clips sometime in the 1910s (your K11 has in fact cut-outs for stripper clips), since the GP11 did not really need the protection of the original 'clip', but I guess they were used to those and had massive stocks, so they stuck to the original design.

I always suspected the K11 bolt/action was designed with the lugs far back because of blackpowder/ corrosive ammo of that time. The Swiss were well armed, this is one of those rifles that works in every aspect, from loading with the chargers to cycling through every round every time. and plenty of accuracy.

Good vid yes. I love swiss stuff! I highly recommend 1896/11 or G11! I can hit out to 600+yds with the irons easy, and the added weight makes them more pleasant to shoot all day.

I’d love to get either/both and pretty much anything else the Swiss produced from the era, some of the finest firearms of the early 20th century in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

I just got one of these before thanksgiving and man oh man do I love it. I think I may just end up collecting K11s I like them more than the K31 surprisingly.

The quality of the K11 is unmatched as far as I’ve seen in rifles from the era, I do really want a K31 to compare and contrast/determine if it really was an improvement. Thanks for watching!

I have been wanting one of the two and have been leaning towards the k11. Everyone acts like the k31 is far superior. Could you expand on what it is you like about the k11?
@Butterybiscutbase

@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry absolutely man, I love your content. As a note I noticed the clips you had were white, those were actually used for blanks hence the plug that you had referenced. The regular clips that are just brown are the ones meant for live ammo.

@@greenbudzzz I like the lines of the K11 more, just looks more elegant. Surprisingly the bolt throw is actually shorter than on the 31. I like the grooves in the stock of the 11s more than the 31. The clips actually load easier in 11s vs the 31, on the K31 you almost have to get your knuckle down in the mag to get the last round to go properly. And overall they just feel higher quality to me.

Very interresting carbine. I love them. Used in the swiss army until the 1970es. Unter the but cap sometimes you find a card with the name of the former user. Greetings from 🇦🇹

The wooden plug in the charger clip was for the blank rounds, they are shorter than a real round. There are brown chargers for the real rounds, the white as yours for blanks and there were also red charger chlips for tracer rounds. Anyway me as a Swiss really enjoyed your enthusiasm about the K11 and swiss arms in general, great work. Thank you for the great content.

I'm looking for a K11 too, because here they are still very affordable. At this time my only Swiss Rifle is the K31 from my grandfather. Sadly I had to give back my Stgw90 after service.

Very informative. I've been trying to decide between a k11 and k31. Everyone says the k31 is more accurate and durable but for some reason I am leaning a little more towards the k11.

From what I’ve heard the K31 is “better” but I’ve always kinda thought the K11 was more interesting, it really comes down to what you’re wanting to get out of it I suppose. And I haven’t yet got to compare the two as I don’t yet own a K31 but if/when that changes I will definitely be putting them head to head. Thanks for watching!

For what it’s worth the K11 to me feels far more elegant and higher quality. If it were me I would definitely get the K11 over the 31, youtubers hyped up the K31 that’s why everyone thinks they’re the best. I know you had asked me on my comment as well.
@74nova36
@74nova36 Жыл бұрын
I think the K11 is even better just because it’s more interesting historically in the evolution of the line. The K31 is nice and smooth but is commanding twice the price for just a little more rifle.

awesome video Thomas!! finally got to watch it . I think its a prity cool piece in that it's match numbered end to end and no import marks . any idea why that might be ?
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry 2 жыл бұрын
There’s a few possibilities, if it was imported prior to 1968 it wouldn’t have an import mark, or if under some strange circumstance it got into the hands of a returning vet got his hands on it
@Matt-ze3oo
@Matt-ze3oo 2 жыл бұрын
I would think either is possible 🤔
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah with an example like this it’s impossible to say for sure, it’s more likely that it’s just an early import but again, no way to absolutely say

Depending on what variant of bayonet you are looking for honesty just monitor EBay, they pop up pretty regularly
