20-YEAR-OLD Chelsea was the victim of severe bullying all the way through high school - and it was often physical. Chelsea was first attacked by "two boys who were older than me" at the age of 14 - they punched her in the face and broke her jaw. A year later, while walking her dog in the park, Chelsea came across a group of teenagers and was confronted by a girl who accused her of "flirting with [her] boyfriend". As Chelsea turned to walk away, she felt the girl jump on her and remembers feeling "her elbow going into the side of my face". Both incidents resulted in jaw surgery - with doctors fixing screws and wires into Chelsea's jaw to hold it in place. Worse was still to come though, as the attacks had left her jaw weak and vulnerable. Just a couple of years later, when Chelsea went to spend time with her best friend Katie and the two started play-fighting, Katie's knee accidentally caught Chelsea in the side of her face. She immediately headed to hospital to prepare for her seventh surgery on her jaw - but she could never have predicted how "all Hell would break loose" post-surgery. Chelsea remembers how she woke up in her hospital bed and "couldn't feel my legs, it was like nothing was there" - and soon she was paralysed from her neck down. She was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) - a life-changing condition that affects how the brain sends messages to the rest of the body. Chelsea underwent months of grueling rehabilitation and gradually regained mobility, but with some lasting symptoms. She continues to experience seizures, fatigue, chronic pain and her left wrist is affected by functional dystonia, leaving her with the use of only her finger and thumb on that hand. And when Chelsea took to TikTok to post about her situation and quickly gained a following, she was once again on the receiving end of negativity, with people accusing her of "faking it, attention-seeking". Through it all though, Katie has stuck by Chelsea, who feels that the "whole experience has made us closer". However, even after all these years, Katie still feels guilty for her part in Chelsea's life-changing diagnosis - and Truly filmed the pair talking about the accident for the first time on camera. Does Chelsea blame her friend at all for what happened, or will she finally be able to put Katie's mind at ease?

Well in her case she wasn't "born different," but was a victim of bullying . It wasn't something that was simply caused by horsing around with her friend either . Her jaw was already vulnerable from multiple insults as a result of being bullied in the past and the paralysis sounds like a complication of her most recent surgery. I'm sorry that the bullies who started this we're never brought to Justice and that maybe her parents didn't have alternative options at the time like private school or homeschool . What happened to her is unacceptable and school's not always a safe environment for everyone .

@af.9803
@af.9803 10 ай бұрын
You are right! For the quick research I did, FND is not really something you are born with and it doesn't "come out". The theory was that it was caused by repressed trauma that was held in the body and eventually erupted. But now with studies its known that there are multiple factors across a lifespan that can cause it and perpetuate it. Example childhood trauma (psychological trauma ) and physical illnesses as simple as migraines. The dystonia however can be inherited, acquired or idiopathic. Probably acquired in her case unless she has family members with it. Its kinda complicated and I dont know everything. Definitely not born this way. This is very sad that abuse done by others caused her all of this.

It is called assault, not bullying. I'm not familiar with UK law, but did the minors who assault her face criminal punishment? Even if they aren't treated the same as adults because of their age, make sure to squeeze them dry in a civil case from their parents. Don't forget to expose their names on social media as well.

I once had a bully who tricked me into thinking that I was his friend almost molest me by trying to stick his hand down my trousers, then show me his d***. I was about 12 or 13. Then not long after, when on a school trip to a Jewish Synagogue for Religious Studies, I went to use the toilet before leaving to get back onto the coach. This above bully who was still tricking me into thinking that I was his friend managed to bash open the cubicle door to try and see my privates. I in fright jerked slightly causing me to piss on the seat. When he saw that, he announced what I did implying that I had done it on purpose - “urgh you pissed on the seat in a religious building”. I couldn’t clean up because he kept sticking to me like glue and the teacher kept telling us to hurry up etc.

I was bullied relentlessly as a kid and later as a teenager. I was beaten up, spat at, kicked, pushed around, called every name under the sun, threatened and chased after school. All because I looked different from other kids. When I was 6, I was prescribed a medication for my bad allergies which made me gain some weight. When I was 11 I entered the classroom and accidentally tripped on my classmates backpack for which he slapped me in the face in front of all the other kids and called me a fat pig... teachers never cared and I didn't tell my mom fearing the bullying would only get worse... I've just had a surgery for a broken, infected jaw in the UK about 6 weeks ago. I was given this yellow piece of paper to sign, with a long list of potential problems that can arise from having the surgery. I imagine that this paralysis was one of the things on the list, but had no choice but to sign it so I could get the surgery. I have a few problems since, like numbness in my chin area and this tugging at my ear. I hope this goes away in time as it will be very annoying to live with. This video puts in perspective how bad it could've gone for me I suppose. My surgery was delayed 24 hours and think this caused my infection to be as bad as it was. I'd kind of like to sue, but don't think I can.

idk what you consider bad but I was purposely sneezed/coughed on, tripped in the hallway to a point I fell with full force, had an egg thrown at my head from a kid cycling past (walking home from school but happened close to the school) another time right as school day ended, I had a tennis ball thrown at my head at full speed. it just barely missed me, I felt and heard it fly by my right ear. had it hit me, I have no doubt I’d have been knocked out and suffered greatly. I’ve also had sweets (candy) thrown at me, shockingly in two separate occasions with two different groups of people. I’ve had the back of my chair kicked in two different occasions. of course I was also called a bunch of names too. aaaannnd idk what you would even call this but one time I was in the corner of the tennis court (inactive) during lunch break when a guy I knew came up to me to tie his shoelaces. this was a regular occurrence. (I realise now that he was flirting) BUT on this one occasion, another kid saw the vulnerable position I was in (kneeling with him standing in front of me) and decided to push the guy into me. he managed to put his arms out so that he wasn’t moved much but the ordeal ended the shoelace tying streak.

I was bullied between the ages of 10-13 .I am now in my 40s and there's absolutely residual effects from it.and I've had to become a strong person as I grew up,but I'm still so hyper aware of people's body language and if people are talking when I walk in and then they stop,instinctively I think 'they must not like me or want to include me' and I have to consciously tell myself what's going on in my mind and that it's irrational to assume.

Those people sound like they have some extreme anger problems. Breaking someone’s jaw with your fist alone is crazy. If you feel compelled to do this, maybe get yourself a pair of boxing gloves and a punching bag or one of those dudes with no arms or legs instead of hurting real people.

So recognisable. Although my bullies also used to hit and stomp me, it’s the verbal abuse and the constant fear of being targeted that can break you. I was bullied from age 7 until age 17. It was terrible and I didn’t want to go to school. I wasn’t a bad student, in contrary I was better than most of the kids in my class. Something that also seemed to trigger the bullying. Now I am an adult in my fifties and I still remember everything. For me it was probably my low self esteem, a lot of self hate and not fitting in the herd (because of a bad home situation)that triggered the abuse. Sadly my daughter was also bullied for a while. I told her to be no victim and to fight back (I never had the courage to tell my parents about the bullying). This is exactly what she did. In the girls bathroom she cornered the “leader” of the bullies, grabbed her by the throat and said that from now on the pestering would stop or she would be worse off next time. Well, I do not condone violence but if you are treated violently, sitting down for a nice chat doesn’t work. After the “toilet incident” no one ever bullied my daughter again. I’m so proud of her. It’s because I believed her and supported her that she had the courage to fight back, she told me later. I did go to the school to talk to the teacher in charge because I deemed it necessary for the school to know what happened. There was a talk with both girls and they never bothered each other again.

This girl is a true inspiration, to go through all that she has endured and be as strong & determined as she is, that's amazing character & fortitude. Kids that bully at school or elsewhere and/or cause physical injury just don't see the long term hurt & emotional stress their victims will go through as a result.

Chelsea's health problems are only the fault of people who assaulted her. "Bullies" is far too weak of term for people who commit violence against others. Even though it's many years after the fact, I hope Chelsea can still press criminal charges and sue the bejesus out of the now adults and their parents. Katie, Chelsea's injuries aren't your fault. You're friends who were playing. If Chelsea hadn't been assaulted as a child, then your actions wouldn't have caused any harm. I'm glad the two of you are still best friends.

I was diagnosed with FND in late 2021. I suffer from tics and non epileptic seizures plus other symptoms. It’s such a difficult condition to manage and explain to people who can’t grasp it and who haven’t heard of it before. I am not surprised you have had people say you are faking it. It is a condition that makes you question your own sanity at times. But you have such a good attitude and that is likely why you have come as far as you have in your recovery even if you have set backs. Nourish that friendship. For chronic illness it is so important to have support

Sounds like she got raised in very rough neighbourhoods of England. The thought of people disfiguring her face for their own means of enjoyment. It's absolutely psycho. I mean, I was different my whole life, but I never got physically abused like this. I live in a little town in Canada, where of course, people don't do these things. I was such a quiet kid, everybody found me so stupid, and they were too cowardly to do anything severe to my body.
