UR SO RIGHT!!!! I have been soooooo lucky to have such lovely counselors (one was an absolute eternal sweetheart, and another was a badass anarchist who straight up told me I could stop doing my homework for a while if I was overwhelmed. BOTH offered to let me stay in their office until class period was over) but I have indeed heard horror stories about counselors snitching to parents / outing students and not caring about them

Using a little extreme example but school work shouldn't matter if you feel like killing yourself. My high school counciler always helped me connect with teachers to figure out what the bare minimum work I could do to pass classes when I felt too awful to do all the assignments

My hs had a teen health center, they were helpful and they also got me involved with some counselors that helped me get some depression medication and helped with my adhd

My elementary school counselor was amazing. I got bullied nonstop from the day I entered school to the day I graduated. He was so kind and would let me come any time just to get away. We played little games and read. High school, not so much. The “counselors” were also the academic advisors so they didn’t really focus on the emotional side of things.

Probably, very empathetic although i dislike being asked about goals lol but that might just be as i have Aspergers. Reminds me of people when i had occupational therapy and self directed support, who wanted me to join music groups and i don't enjoy them nor is my motor skills/muscle memory competant 😂

​@@user-uf7nx3nn1fAsperger's Syndrome is a neurological condition, legally it's a disability because to get medically diagnosed you have to be impaired (even if you mitigate in some aspects). Impairments are the same but it manifests slightly differently in each person so one can be worse off in one aspect or slightly less in another but it's all mostly near an average. Aspergers is a legacy diagnosis; they used to call Rhett's, Aspergers and classic Autism PDDs (pervasive development disorders) but then both the American psychiatrist association with their DSM V amd the WHO's ICD11 both term them all Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASD). There's a code 6102.A, in the ICD11, that's analogue to Aspergers. I have executive dysfunction, problems with social pragmatics, people with Autism have a bottom up thinking style, the triad of impairments, trouble understanding what people mean, can be a bit naive (im a bit more self aware now), prefer direct communication due to not being able to really read behavioural and social queues, i personally have crappy spacial awareness, hyper sensitive hearing, muscle memory is a bit poor... I still call it Aspergers because that's what i was diagnosed with. You can't be retroactive undiagnosed, although I'd probably be ASD on the DSM with a "level" one or 2, i hate how they term it now as it doesn't take into account different needs even though they tried to "level" it. It's not an Autistic spectrum either that's a misnomer as spectrums are linear like the visible spectrum of light.

​@@franzhaas5597I'm rubbish with social pragmatics (when do i take a turn in a conversation, how do i express I'm not interested, how do i know if someone is bored or might want or have something to say? I got bullied online before for talking about social pragmatics, like it was bad to learn to understand things so you can relate better. Sick of being told I'm ableist when these people don't care. I i still find it hard to read people even though i notice their behaviours change etc. I've had to learn a lot of stuff like how do i ask for a train ticket because on the bus i have a pass that gets me on for free with a companion, so i don't even ask for a ticket just say xyz street please it beeps thanks driver or 2 too xyz. I don't do good with some sound, especially if it is so low volume (mumbling for example because it makes me strain) or too loud, I'm often hyper aware and taking in a lot of information. It's weird because ASMR is not what you'd expect me to enjoy but it's the pacing and levels I'm comfortable with here.
