School Fire Drill #12: Simplex Annunciator

Here is a video of the monthly fire drill in one of the buildings on my school's campus. The system is simplex, however the panel is still unknown. Many of the horn/strobes were once simplex QuickAlerts, however slowly they have been replacing the alarms with TureAlerts. Enjoy the video!

I like how the strobe flashed for a few seconds before the horn came on, it was like a bit of a warning so it wouldn't scare the crap out of everyone.

I believe it actually has to do with the alarms syncing up with each other but it also works to not startle them

They need this everywhere. Last year someone at my school almost had a heart attack because they were in a class at the starting position since it is not synced, so they have no warning in that area; the kid was sitting right under the horn

@@anonymousprime3395 reminds me of something because i am a siren enthusiast and my mom was cleaning out a stove and i warned her that i was gonna test the sirens but they were so loud that my mom literally made what she was holding fall, lmao (also if you dont know the sirens i have are 4 carter minimites but i only tested 2 of them and yes they are mine and i fired them up to test them)

This is like watching a behind the scenes from the movies. All through school we had fire drills multiple times a year but never got to see how everything worked from this side.

In my school they never announced fire drills. So it would be chaos like how they expect us to walk out fromaly while we questioned if its a fire or a drill

Exactly!!! My school does that too. They just randomly let the alarm go off without even telling us if it was a drill or not. Usually, my teacher would give me headphones, but she didn't today. We had one today and I plugged my ears and got up as soon as I saw the flash. I cried afterwards and some of the students calmed me down. I do remember in Elementary school though that they would announce them before it happened. However, they don't now. Someone told me that it's meant to be a surprise, but I don't agree with them because if it's a drill, then it can't be a surprise. It would make since though if there actually was a fire.

Next year, I’m supposed to be in a school facility with Truealerts, but the acoustics are poor and makes them very loud. Wish they could tape the alarms.

Nice! Aren’t QuickAlerts and TrueAlerts essentially the same thing with a different name? I knew that when their production started in 1999 they were sued by a Chinese firm who claimed they had trademarked the name QuickAlert so Simplex just renamed it TrueAlert.

Good question. I don’t believe this building has that kind of system. We did have a building at our school that had a voice evacuation message, but it’s now under construction. Our temporary facility has the same system as the building demonstrated in the movie, which does not have a voice. I believe that NFPA standards do require buildings with a certain number of occupants or more have to have voice evacuation to transmit any critical emergency information. I hope this helps/

The annunciator doesn't have a priority 2 button which means its a 4010 panel. Good panel in its day.

press trouble acknowledge or panel silence(depends on panel)

I remember from kindergarten to sixth grade, this sound would haunt me! I was actually assaulted by my first grade teacher, because I was afraid of the alarm, and I always covered my ears. She would try to rip my hands off my ears by force!

GameAndLifeRecorder you can get them on eBay. You need to make sure that it is 100% compatible with your panel, or t will not work. You need a panel for an annunciator, you can’t use them as panels for very specific reasons...

SATX Railfanning Productions it’s not called an ANN-Bus on Simplex, it’s only ANN on firelite panels compatable With the ANN Series. Like the MS-9200UDLS rev1 cannot handle ANNs, only EIA

Garrett Compton Yeah. That is a tough question to ask. I’ve tried persuading Campus Security at my school three times already and they have denied all of my requests. Hopefully, I’ll have the authority to do something like that someday, though.

The question you have to ask yourself is “does the fire alarm system save me?” If you don’t see smoke or heat detectors and only pulls and fire alarms it’s not gonna warn you of a real fire so mabye that will be the end of your life

E Random Videos That’s why fire codes require smoke detectors as well as pull stations. If a detector goes off, it will set the whole system off.
