I hear Myke on the intro to Hoover Street, but I think it really clicked with me on my 3rd listen and every time after that. I guess it's just a weird combo of beats, but it feels way more natural the more I listen to it.

Oxymoron is deeper than what they said. they need to go back and give it a deeper listen. His introspective tracks in the middle tell a lot of story about his life and his beliefs. Like he raps "the bible is selling blind threats" or something, and many more revealing lines. The pacing in his album was also done to a perfection. Starts of real hype, mellows down in the middle and finishes off with a blast. I didn't like 2 tracks but loved the rest of the tracks. After a couple of listens I walked away feeling like I personally know the artist. This album is very close to be classic and it just might be. Dead end hip hop needs some dope in their life, so they can dig deeper into albums because this this album has many levels. Its very similar to Tupac's 2pocalypse now structure wise. Pac is just more political.

im suprised most of you guys werent too into the album, I 100% agree with Ken, the album was awesome, he got more introspective and added more substance to his tracks, developed as a songwriter, and was his aggressive high energy usual self, one of my fave Hip Hop albums of the year, I still don't know if I like the album more than Habits and Contradictions, but it is definitely on par !!!

.Habits&Contradictions started off strong but overall the album got weaker after the first 5 tracks. I felt on Habits, Q discussed the gangsta life but didnt discuss its affect on him fully. Oxymoron delivered on that from start to finish. After Collard Greens ends, Q goes deeper than hes ever been lyrically about his life on Hoover Street, and Prescription. And he'll still give u the confidence he had on his last two albums with Hell of a Night and Man of the Year. I love this album I completely Agree with Ken

I read somewhere else how his album is built around the different drug eras. Like Los Awesome and Collard Greens are supposed to represent the late 70s/early 80s. The Kurupt and Raekwon songs are supposed to be the 90s. And it goes all the way into the early 2000s. I'm not sure, maybe someone else here can line the songs up with the drug eras. When I read that, this album made more sense to me. A solid album, but I have to agree with that it wasn't really up to par with his previous work.

I think the one thing that I love the most is that it gets better as it goes along. Like, the last tracks, counting the bonus tracks, are the best. I wish albums would do that more often, so I can have things to look forward to... don't make me want to stop playing the album halfway through! But yeah, good review. I'll be listening to it a few more times... Also, I've never heard H&C, or any Schoolboy project... so, I'm coming in here as a newbie.

Comparing to the last album is natural and it's also the easiest path. I would suggest spending a few minutes on the new versus the old (differences, growth, similarities) then try to get away from what's human or common for those who didn't hear the first album. I think that will give those who aren't listening to everything a better perspective - try compare it to all other rappers sophomore albums . . . then if possible all hip-hop albums (creativity, production, features, etc.) even if it's not your personal taste everyone has pros and cons on songs (production good, flow bad, etc.) Even if I don't like something I will try to relate the type of listener who would be into it. Over all great review I love the passion you all have and the articulate manor in which you conveyed your opinions. -All the best.

You guys should review Step Brothers 2 by Starlito and Don Trip. It's a few months old now, but it's worth a listen. Both can spit, and there is some solid production on there from Drumma Boy and Young Chop. Plus, both rappers can get introspective. Which you guys seem to appreciate.

I've never really listened to Schoolboy Q much outside of guest features, so I guess now is the time to listen to Oxymoron and judge him as a solo artist. From what I have heard, he's a great rapper, but now I need to find out if he can make cohesive albums or not. I'll give the album a shot and see what I think of it.

I liked this album. I didn't expect it to be top noch lyrically I can honestly listen to about 14 of the 15 tracks. I bought this album Tuesday and that evening I also downloaded Black Hystori Project by CyHi da Prince. I never listened to a CyHi da Prince mixtape and that project took all of my attention from Q's album. I've listen to it all the way through but I've gone through CyHi's project twice and it's a longer project. Break the Bank is still my favorite song right now tho.

I enjoyed this album 7 out of 10 for me. I deff bang his songs when they come on but I only really like about half of the album lyrically wise for the most part just for the fact of lack of relating to it but production wise it's really dope. I think he will come out with more relatable and better beats and production in the future.

I completely agree with Myke except the fact that I like Los Awesome ALOT. I tried to like most of the album but none of them stick to me. In Cilvia's Demo, I didn't immediately like every song but it grew onto me and I really enjoyed it. I can't see myself doing that in Oxymoron. It was really hit or miss for me. I like SchoolBoy as an artist though, very unique.

Tbh with all the sample clearance issues it seemed to me at least that this wasn't what Q initially had envisioned. Missing tracks with Danny Brown, Druggys wit Hoes pt.3, Jeezy feature, 50 feature, Bronson and Sweatshirt collabs, something seemed off. But the more I listen to it the more it grows on me, Q and those within TDE have their own respective lanes and I believe since H&C Q has stuck to his own lane. H&C was diverse but not really cohesive. Oxymoron was solid and I definitely mess with half to 3/4 of the album. Just wanted to hear what he had initially envisioned.

The album throughout switches back and forth between his states of instantly and delusions, convey his deteriorating psychological state, the various voices and crazed lyrics, stating facts how they are, he may not be a lyricist like Kendrick but Q still has the ability to dominate a beet and paint a vivid picture of a sociopath. The various voices and screams around his voice as he raps, illustrates a nightmare which he can seem to escape from. The album is amazing 9-10

I wouldn't say he pulled back. It was his major label debut, and with the radio potential that he showcased on his TDE albums, I feel he tried to write his songs in a more commercial way. He was still staying true to his art, lyrically I feel he definitely showed improvement, but the songs lagged due to how they were structured, feeling lackluster and at times very predictable. I still enjoyed the album, but its messy; it could have really had some more time to clean it up and make it into tip top shape.
