Before he adapted it to .45 caliber for US Army pistol trials, Jens Schouboe was building his pistol design in .32 ACP (7.65mm Browning). It was a blowback action, hammer fired, and very quick and easy to field strip. The gun was reliable and well made, but just didn't catch on in the market, and not many were made. This particular one has a rather interesting feature of a second magazine latch location to act as a disconnect, firing single shots with the magazine held in reserve.

good job ian on the pronounce, really interesting pistol, shame Danish politicians killed Danish weapons design, I once worked at one of DISA`s old factories, I love to see the mechanics of firearms, mechanical efficiency and design, it is like music for the eyes and the mind.

For such an ungainly looking pistol, mechanically, it is quite an elegant design.

Your pronunciation of Schouboe is good enough for government work, way better than last time. The Danish language is a difficult language to speak for none natives, so dont sweat it. Thank you for putting so many Danish guns on the channel, I didnt even know of that one.

stefan grubbe Pronouncing Danish is a lot easier when you're drunk. What? I'm Swedish. Us in the Nordic countries always make fun of each other. The way it works is this: Swedes can understand Norwegian. Norwegians can understand Swedish. Danish can understand both. No one can understand the Danish. :D

Seems like that 2-stage magazine release thing would be an interesting option for concealed carry if it was translated to a more modern platform, having the magazine in the lower position while carrying to ensure safety.

If I were to make use of the mag's two stages, I'd likely do it for a +1 loading of the handgun. It looks like a nice firearm.

It looks like with the way it's curved on the back where the web of your thumb and pointy finger rests that you wouldn't really be able to get a good grip. Also that has got to be one of the most easiest to disassemble semi-auto pistols.

Interesting little gun but I can't understand why anyone would put a magazine cut-off feature on a pistol. On a bolt action military rifle or police rifles/ shotguns it makes sense from the point that you may want to fire one specialty round or in the case of a battle rifle you may want to single shot snipe and then have an entire battery of rounds left for hot and heavy firefights. Can someone please enlighten me because i honestly don't have the foggiest clue?

3 years too late, but I believe it was a feature requested by some militaries around that time. I think they didn't want soldiers wasting a bunch of ammo by having them load individual bullets and only using the clip in an emergency.
@kevinsullivan3448

Ian, does the slide lock open when the magazine is in the 'single shot' position? I can see how this might appeal to target shooters (European's of that time) who also want their 'plinker' to be a self defense pistol. But if the slide does not lock back, it makes single loading ridiculously difficult.

Wow 63 grain wood core bullet going 1500 fps, i wonder how effective it was. Probably not great penetration but it probably would deform/disintegrate.
@MrLoobu
@MrLoobu 8 жыл бұрын
faster lighter bullets are generally better at penetrating, maybe not aluminum and wood but its hard to say. I woodent be surprised if it did about as well or betted than lead.
@PeaceManBro
@PeaceManBro 8 жыл бұрын
MrLoobu I dont think thats correct, a heavy projectile will always penetrate more, relative to velocity
@MrLoobu
@MrLoobu 8 жыл бұрын
+Dustin Yea faster and heavier is more energy but if its heavy its not as fast, youd need to increase caliber, regular .45 goes around 900-1100 fps and doesnt penetrate well because thats like shotgun speeds. 60ish grains is like 4 times lighter than a fmj .45 though so probably wouldnt be worth it since stopping power would be far lower.
@PeaceManBro
@PeaceManBro 8 жыл бұрын
MrLoobu Lol, stopping power huh? Shotgun speed doesnt mean anything, all loads are different, heavier bulleta tend to pemtrate more, fact!

1500fps is pretty slow for suck a light round. That has the energy of a .25 ACP.

Would adding more length to the grip make it a little less awkward to handle?
@Bladsmith
@Bladsmith 9 жыл бұрын
zendell37 Nope. The angle of the backstrap in relation to the position of the trigger makes the grip irredeemably awkward.

With a shorter barrel and a better magazine release, that would have made an excellent spy gun. Because then it would be ridiculously tiny.

Interesting design. It seems very odd that they'd build a relatively large slide and long barrel (especially for a .32 Auto) on top of such a short grip. Do you feel like it would be a comfortable pistol to shoot if they grip were long enough for the last finger, or does the problem seem to be more in the design of the slide?
@ForgottenWeapons

elektro3000 It wasn't actually uncomfortable to hold, just a bit ungainly.

Forgotten Weapons From what you've said, it seems like the Schouboe .32/.45 really should have been a success apart from one or two silly design choices? I'm not a shooter, in fact the closest I've ever come is an air rifle, but overall it looks to me like a gun that missed brilliance by a narrow margin.
@MrMortull
@MrMortull 8 жыл бұрын
koolkitty8989 There's definitely something to what you're saying; if they were going for a super compact pistol for concealed carry or whatever, that barrel wouldn't be half as long. Keeping everything else about the design, the first thing I'd think to do would be make it fit the hand for all of those reasons above.

So would the slide lock open if you had the magazine in the single shot position? It seems like loading single rounds would be significantly more awkward than with a rifle that has a single shot mode. It also seems like the gun might have sold better if they made the grip long enough for all fingers to be used. These videos show how minor oversights can ruin a good design.

Isn't a magazine cutoff for a handgun a bit stupid? Especially for .32 ACP? I mean, I can understand it in a military service rifle (even though it killed the fire superiority advantage, especially on the SMLE), but in a handgun? It seems like a needless detail created because you think that the soldier will waste ammo.
@gokuss15
@gokuss15 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no soldier is going to jump in a trench with his pistol and shoot single rounds. The magazine disconnect was not a good idea.
@kevinsullivan3448
@kevinsullivan3448 7 жыл бұрын
I can see it appealing to the European Target shooting culture; especially at the turn of that century. The real question is, does the action lock open with the magazine in manual loading position? If the action doesn't lock open then single loading becomes really stupid.

You must look at the mind of turn-of-the-century military "leaders". The idea of "waste" was still pre-eminate.
