+gideonstactical agreed,a non biased report, not condemning just the facts...great review.now if they will address the steel issues i will buy it.the weight is not a factor for me,i will just compensate somewhere else for it.

Basically with this axe, for durability, it's probably best to get rid of the scandi grind on it and add a more durable secondary bevel to it, that way you won't get edge damage as easily.

A tip is to start the cut as wide as the thickness of the wood you are trying to chop, or even a little bit more. I think a saw is a lot more efficient to cut a piece to length and axes are best at splitting and other tasks. Saws are safer and use less energy, but If you only have a axe or hatchet that is not half bad. Just takes more energy and you lose some of the wood if it is a log you are trying to cut to size. Also cutting with a short axe like that would be safer if you kneel down so the axe can't bite you if you miss a swing, it goes into the ground and not your leg. Easier on the back and shoulders to. Just a tip. Nice videos though, keep chopping!

2:00 I know I'm 9 years late to the party, but...please never use swings where the axe would end up in your leg if there was nothing to stop it. A glancing blow, or you just losing your grip, could end up with you bleeding and unable to walk in the middle of the forest, which is not a state I can recommend.

Aaron I use my axes and hatchets every day just about for my backyard fireplace. Whether I'm using a Fiskars or a Gransfors Bruks I put it through the Ken Onion WorkSharp. I've gotten damage like that with the Fiskars but only if I hit the stone patio. I like the way it looks and I know it feels good just from seeing it as I do the Schrade knives, but until they start using 1095 or something I will remain on the fence. Good video though. That big log was kicking your but, my back hurt just watching you. Mike in South Jersey

I have the Schrade axe 2, the smaller one. It gets the job done for a hatchet that size, the one you're using snuck up on me, I didn't know they had a longer version on the market, until now. I'm not a fan of the 3crmov, but I guess getting a thick chuck of it in a hatchet isn't bad. As always thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinion on this axe, I appreciate it.

Hope Schrade follows your advice to upgrade the steel on this axe. It is a terrific design, and I really want one--but not untill they change the steel. Buying a dull axe doesn't make sense. Thank you for the great vid!

Thanks for the review. It appears that the steel is too hard and won't hold up long term. I restore vintage axes and hatchets and have never had one to chip so easily. For the price, there are more affordable options of higher quality and durability. Thanks again for the thorough review.

Hi, in your opinion, which of these three hatchet is the best: -Schrade SCAXE2L -Fiskars X7 Hatchet -Mora Outdoor Camp Axe Best Regards

Camilo Donoso Overall the X7, the Mora will hold its edge longer, but I think the X7 is the winner.

I would’ve got this over the estwing or the fiskar x7 if the steel was better. But now I feel like every poly handle camp axe should have firesteel in the handle
