Handle is TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer), Brother. Those Schrades aren't bad first knives for people on a budget, or that won't be really using them. I have a few (SCHF 56LM {M=Micarta}, which I bought for myself - and the SCHF 56L {has the TPE handles} for my son, to be our "woods/bushcraft"-type of blades, so we could literally beat them.......and the SCHF 26 (which looks like that SCHF 9 you are reviewing), which was a birthday gift last year. They literally are "sharpened leaf spring"-type knives, and I have been beating (and at times, mistreating) my 56LM while processing cut firewood (it only comes in those $5 Holla bundles at a nearby gas station, here in Chicago, so that I can fit it into my Firebox Stove G2, to boil water and cook up some s'mores with the family. As I get less camera-shy, I will do a review of it (and other knives, as well). It is a good "starter" knife...at least for me...as I got into the bushcrafting side of things, after leaving the military. That reminds me....I should probably sharpen it soon....LOLOLOLOL ! The way I look at it, is that I can always use it as a paperweight, door stop, rowboat/canoe/raft anchor, etc. if I don't need it as a knife. So, it's still useful as those other things, for a lot cheaper.

Schrade is a ok brand, but I would probably go with Ontario because there heat treat is so much better, every Schrade i have gotten will chip really easily,

It used to be an excellent knife.
