Schrade has named their SCHMBS Brush Sword machete the Priscilla. Modeled after an ancient bladed weapon known as the Makhaira, this new Joshua Waggoner designed blade from Schrade is on of the best all-around performers of any machete size blade I have reviewed so far. And it is balanced too.

This is one of the very few blades I've ever bought, budget or otherwise that I did not have to touch or modify in any way. I loved it so much I was afraid to check the balance for fear of damaging that tip. Thanks for doing it for me and reassuring me that it is properly calibrated! :) Of course now I'm going to have to check myself...Great video as always!

Brian I just got one of these today and wanted to say thanks for showing it. This was the first SOP video I ever watched and was my introduction to Schrade, though I've watched most of your vids since and bought 4 other schrades waiting for Priscilla to come out.So again thank you, your vids and effort do help and are greatly appreciated.

@mt_baldwin
@mt_baldwin 7 жыл бұрын
They are sold out for now. They were on schrades website under fixed blades ( not machete) but sold out in like 2 days and were on Amazon under "schrade makhaira brush sword" being sold by 3rd party vendor blade shop.I had a hard time finding it too and it only came up when I typed that specific name, not under schrade knives or machetes or fixed blades etc. They came out around January 17th, at least that's when I noticed them in stock and had been checking schrade website every few days since Jan 1st. Same thing with the schf64 froe, I didn't get one of those though...
@mt_baldwin
@mt_baldwin 7 жыл бұрын
Now it doesn't come up on Amazon at all and I can only access the page through my previous orders listings. The page has that "we don't know when or if this item will be back in stock" heading. But if it sold out in just a few days I'm positive schrade will make more.

A lot of the Schrade knife sheaths have a Velcro belt loop. Like you, I had a no idea what purpose that Velcro loop served. Then, I added my schf52 to a sling I made out of a large leather belt to carry my Ontario Marine Raider and found the Velcro loop handy. I was already wearing the sling, so it was easy adding the Schrade to the sling without having to take it off. That's a pretty obscure case that makes the Velcro loop a handy feature. Otherwise, it kinda doesn't make sense.

I have to say one thing I would like to know about an edged tool like this is the thickness of the blade. I'm glad to see you covered that when talking about the blade after the bushcraft testing. Thing is it would be nice to include in the specs. I do like the design and I have been considering trying out another machete. I will likely wait till 2017 when this one comes out.

Now it's working. I see your in a different location, which is a surprise. As usual a very thorough review and being that Schrade has established a history of improving products and providing customers with value, performance and ergonomics, your comments are fair and right on. I am sure 1060 or 1095 steel would open eyes, but their high carbon stainless (#Cr#Mov steels) are very good.

Bryan, if you have a Costco store in your area, you have to see if they have the knife, flashlight, multi tool set made by snap on. Bought three for Christmas gifts . For the price I am very impressed. I think you will be also. Very budget friendly. Can not say how balanced they are. I wish I owned a quality test facility like you have, so I will have to leave that part up to you. Can't go wrong with these in a BOB or EDC.

Hi I know this old video, but it was this video that I brought this machete after watching. Have you done any video's on fixing a dented or bad rolled edge. It's more dented than anything. I tried chopping some green branches of a gum tree (I'm in Australia) The branch was around 2 to 2 half inch thick and was chopping find fist 5 or so wacks but after 10 or so good feel it changed so look and had dent it. Can you or any recommend a good way to get the fine waves out after I got most of the dent out with over working the steel and making it stretched and soft or weak.

Hello bro. Hopefully my advice is not too late. The late master bladesman cliff stamp sagely advises to hammer the waves out with a ball pein hammer on a suitable surface, dont go crazy and impact the steel just very light hammering until its straight again. I have used this technique to great effect and saved myself a lot of trouble

I'm surprised they didn't call it Thorin, or even just Orcrist. I guess if they did they'd have to pay royalties. The blade design, sweep, belly, recurve, and straight back are almost exactly the shape of the sword "Orcrist" from the movie "The Hobbit" and used by Thorin Oakenshield, King Under The Mountain. As a fantasy sword I love Orcrist, it's a very good design. As such, the Priscilla will probably be a good cutter, but I'll bet the blade doesn't glow blue when orcs or goblins are near. Bummer.

I'm sold on it, in fact I bought one on Amazon earlier today, it's a lovely odd ball... It's not quite a chopping knife, too long, not heavy enough... It's not quite a sword, to short, not much hand protection... Not quite a machete, too thick, not flexible enough... And I'm not even sure if it's a swordchete. The only thing like it I can think of is the Hanwei Banshee. But it looks perfect for my neck of the woods in Maine where we mostly have small poplar, bass wood, and white pine. I'm curious to see how this compares with my larger Cold Steel Swordchetes. I need to slow down on blades though... Got a two actual swords in the mail along with this thing.

If they would have put a slight kukri bend in it it would have been a close copy to Nicole's blade on Alone season 2. I've been looking for one of her blades. The guy that made hers will make one fie me, but it will cost around $500. Which is fine. Cold steel Sam Mai cost about the same. I just want to try something close first and see if I like it.

Looks pretty good! Definitely something to look at for a zombie apocalypse. Not sure how useful it would be for me here in the Pacific Northwest. Good review as always.

+Mike Major (Rather Be Bushcrafting) I think it would be useful anywhere for most tasks a small hatchet would be used for. It is just another choice, not necessarily the best one for all circumstances. It it is pretty cool. Thanks for watching.

Right blade and handle shape. Good sheath (finally). Serviceable and easily sharpened steel. Clip the wings a little and hit the $50 ish price point, I'm all over that thing.

Which knife is the better one: the SCHMBS "Priscilla" or the large Kukri-Machete?

Better? That is a personal opinion. I like the Priscilla more.

Survival On Purpose I meant "better" for some basics like chopping. Of course there is always a subjectivity.

as someone that's used machetes a lot. in pretty much any situation. in my opinion, and I'd stake my life on it, a machete, especially a good one can be a end all be all blade of choice for any woods/survival situation. if, and only if, you had one blade to choose in bringing with you.

I imagine just fine. I have batoned many other Schrade 3Cr blades with no problems. Actually, I have never had a problem batoning any Schrade blade.

Nice machete, nice design, not just a flat piece of metal that's been sharpened, but I'm not sure about that sharp looking point bit at the edge of the blade next to the handle,

@SurvivalOnPurpose

no idea on cost yet and the point at the handle end is pretty protected by the sweep of the blade/handguard area.
