Dies ist eine meiner Lieblingskomposition von Schumann! Diese Ouvertüre spricht, erzählt, kämpft, protestiert, liebt, weint, jammert und lebt. Es ist beeindruckend!

I always come back to this performance. The tempos are reasonable, the textures are crystal clear, with all counterpoint fully on display. This is how Schumann should be played.

Exquisite conducting! Such control and preparation, beautiful motion with crystal clarity. Memorised too, brilliant.

Janowski's conducting of this Overture was one of nicely understated lyricism and sombre tragedy intelligently balanced .

One of the finest and largely underrated conductors still working -- can't wait for Bayreuth Ring 2016!

Well-articulated rendition of this well-constructed overture under the artistic leading by the awesome conductor. The woodwinds are particularly excellent.

Very similar in mood with Brahms' Tragic Overture (or the other way around, for all that matters).

@Jeb Clar Mendelssohn and Bach were the two biggest influences on Schumann’s music. Mendelssohn was his best friend. Schumann was a pall bearer at his funeral.

Gut artikulierte Leistung dieser gut konstruierten Ouvertüre unter der künstlerischen Leitung vom genialen Dirigenten. Die Holzbläser sind besonders ausgezeichnet.

I am often thinking about why Schumann's music is so lukewarm, mainly when I hear his symphonies. It is not only his change of style. Now I understood, that this is mainly because of the good but not enough good conductors. In this interpretation: where are e.g. the accents, which could help to understand better the connection between the musical phrases, which could give strength, and expressiveness to the motifs, to the melodies? It is so two-dimensional!

God listen to the 2 middle movements of symphony 2 and Spring Symphony especially the final movement. that movement may be the most exuberant music ever written. then there's his opus 12 collection, carnaval, papillons, symphonic studies, the piano concerto and you may begin to know that the music of RS may be a little too divine for most mere mortals to comprehend.

@@larryprimeau7738 Maybe I was ambigous. I spoke about conductors and about their crime which shows Schumann's fantastic music two dimensional.

@@larryprimeau7738 He was criticizing conductors that he feels don't do justice to Schumann, not Schumann's works themselves, you homunculus.

What was he doing in the first bar ???? The chords are off the beat and should be played in strict tempo. That gives a whole different feeling to the opening. Schumann knew what he wanted and must be respected.

Ignorant! In the beginning, all the maestro gives a MUTE signal for the orchestra !!!

Music, like many things, is open to interpretation. If you think all pieces are to be played exactly the same every time then go listen to a recording and stay out of symphony halls.
@camaysar2223 жыл бұрын
Your statement makes no sense. Maestro Janowski (to whom you imagine you can give a lesson in conducting!) does what he must do - he gives a strong downbeat, then makes sure his orchestra plays together in strict time while making Schumann's crescendo on the 3 chords - which they do. Their playing sounds as written, as they do not overdo the attacks on the chords... something they certainly worked at during rehearsals.

It is OK. Schumann's music is often strange, and out of the normal beats. It is not an easy beginning for a conductor, but the orchestra is totally together. Look at the score: imslp.org/images/3/35/TN-Schumann%2C_Robert_Werke_Breitkopf_Gregg_Serie_2_RS_8_Op_115_scan.jpg
