Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine kzfaq.infoUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

im not a big hunter myself, but I know for a fact that a male bear that size will kill all the new cubs i the area, for miles and miles. Hunting an old male bear, is weirdly the best way to preserve a bearhabitat.
@freecheese41436 жыл бұрын
jkken1 Ridiculous statement to support your position.
@MrBluecollar86 жыл бұрын
@Freecheese It is not a ridiculous statement.Alaska has a brown bear hunt on Kodiak island.They issue so many permits and the hunters are allowed to kill the big males.You are only allowed to take the skin and leave the meat behind for the other animals.There was a whole series about it.It is because the older bigger bears on the island will kill the younger ones.
@kodiakpredator5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true. We are currently over run by bears. The big males kill and eat the cubs both as a food source and to bring the sow back in to heat.
@JamesRMeans5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the bears survived before sport hunters came along
@imustlol22025 жыл бұрын
You are not smart. Killing the old bear would allow for over population. They have a perfect natural balance, humans are throwing it off by hunting for the big one. 100 years ago tuna caught were way bigger, the big tuna did not get to reproduce so tuna caught now a days are smaller. Same thing is happening with other animals. No balance.

That was so cool. I shot a medium sized brown bear just south of Katmai national monument in the early 80's. We watched it cross the river coming right at us. I was knelt on a bear trail that lead right where he was crossing the river. Instead of taking the trail, she walked up a small creek that was just to my right a couple of feet. I twisted as far as I could to get a shot. When I looked through the scope, all I could see was blurry hair. I sighted down the barrel and hit her high in the shoulder because the angle was very similar to this shot. To our surprise, she went down and never got up from that spot. We estimated the shot at about 10' from the muzzle of my 7MM mag. Needless to say, my heart was racing when it was all over. Thanks for the video and bringing back memories.

I appreciate your comment Cuchulain. I took some grief from my fellow hunters over not taking that shot I felt and still feel that is a one lung shot and I didn't want to take the risk of wounding that Bear. As hunters we all have our reason for why we hunt For me there has to be some honor in harvesting my game. A one lung shot would have meant a follow up rifle shot or a slow death and that bear did not deserve to die like that. When we left the bear that stood up was still alive

No doubt, sensible hunting keeps the ecological balance - but hunting with bow and arrow only means evil torture to the creature and fun for the killer! Only use big-bore rifles. That`s quick and clean.
@LivetheWildLifeTV8 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Any poor shot, rifle or bow, will not result in a clean kill. The amazing thing about a bow shot is the apparent absence of shock after the shot. I have had animals run and not know what had happened. They died quickly and cleanly. This bear died within minutes of my shot. It is up to the hunter to decide if he can make a clean double lung shot. If you watched this video you know I passed up a shot on a standing bear because of that very reason.

I am a small teenage girl from the suburbs but I have decided that I want to look into learning to hunt. Whatever it takes. Archery in particular has caught my fancy. I like the way a bow feels. I like knowing where my food comes from, I like meat, I like nature, and I know that hunting is important to conservation and gives the animal a faster death than it would naturally have.

Elk, moose, and bears are all large animals that are hunted remotely and every piece of meat transported for consumption. Usually on the backs of the hunters in many trips over several miles. Bones and entrails are left behind and is usually close to half of the weight of the animal. There are very few or no animals that produce 800 pounds of meat. ( I saw that figure in another Comment I think)

to all the cry babies, do some research of you food supply. cruelty is an understatement when applied to the origin of foods purchased in the supermarket. cattle know what is coming when they get loaded onto trailers and unloaded at the slaughter house, the smell of death surrounds them for hours before their time comes. humans are predators, have always been and will always be in order to survive.
@LivetheWildLifeTV8 жыл бұрын
Yes I did. Although I differ on the sucker punch part. At 5 yards that bear can rip me to shreds before it dies. I can sugar coat what I did and say that Fish and Wildlife agencies determine how many bears need to be removed to maintain the food supply and health of the whole bear population. Or that larger boars will kill cubs so that the sows will come back into estrous and will breed again. Hell I can go on with more reasons that this is necessary but the truth is this was a rite of passage for me. To take down the largest land predator with my bow on my terms. It's dangerous, exhilarating and what man has been doing since the beginning of time. Sorry you can't understand that. Enjoy your kale. Peace
@LivetheWildLifeTV8 жыл бұрын
I understand, but see if you can wrap your head around this. A big misconception is that the Fish and Wildlife agencies are supported solely by tax dollars that are collected from the general public. They are funded by sportsman who pay for licenses and are taxed on the hunting and shooting products they buy. The Pittman-Robertson Act which is also known as the Federal Restoration act became law in 1937. The revenue generated from the excise tax is apportioned to state wildlife agencies for conservation efforts. That hunt cost me close to $20,000.00 and part of that money funds the agencies that protect the wildlife from poaching and uphold the game laws. So although I understand your concern for the death of this bear understand that it is very regulated and does provide some benefit for the total population of bear.

If they ate the bear meat and used the skin, there is not much argument you can offer against hunting bears. If however, the animal went wasted, then there is lot to argue about.

What do you think they did? Hire a helicopter to come in, put the bear in a harness, and fly it miles and miles to a butchery, have it butchered, and then ate bear meat every night for the next 3 years? Or did they pay a team of 15 people to hike in the next day, put it in a huge harness, and drag it miles out of the woods? Give me a break.

I'm not sure how I feel about archery brown bear hunts. This guy appears to be a true sportsman, not taking the first shot and waiting for the best opportunity for a true killing shot which he took with skill. This particular bow hunt went off well, probably due to the hunter and guide's diligence. While he doesn't state how far the bear ran after being shot, I'm willing to bet it wasn't very far. There are so many videos of guys pegging an arrow into a bear only for the guide to kill it with a rifle, making the first shot with a bow nothing more than torture. That kind of thing makes me sick. Seems a little too risky to me. I think if you're going to take a bear, make sure it is done cleanly and quickly, with a powerful gun. This video is proof that it CAN be done ethically with a bow, but I feel this video showcases an exceptional hunt.

+jaystretch01 I appreciate the comment. This was my second Brown Bear hunt. I took one 4 yrs earlier at 12 yds again a broadside shot on an 8 1/2 ft bear. The bear didn't go 40 yds. This bear went about 80 yds after the shot but this bear was much bigger. This was a personal quest for me and I wanted it done on my terms. A clean kill was what I was after or I wasn't going to shoot. Thanks again for the comment.

The eco system....and you are more qualified to talk about the eco system than the Gov't agencies? Fish and Wildlife realize the importance of removing a few bears for the good of the rest. Do you realize a large boar will kill a females cubs so she will come into heat again and breed? I think they have things under control.

Sharp broadheads.congrats on a great trophy
@natesh9998 жыл бұрын
That is the dumbest reasoning I have heard. If you are going to use human history as your tool, it is also in our nature to rape and kill other human beings . How would you feel is somebody did that to you or your family. As beings of modern society, we understand that we are masters of this planet and it is our duty to show empathy to other creatures. Just killing an animal for the sake of sport and justifying it based on some prehistoric predatory instinct is pathetic.

"Monster with a bow" I like that but again I disagree with the "scared and helpless " when you are describing a brown bear. It is the largest land predator and I know I heard a bunch of moose cheering in the background when he was shot because of all of the moose calves he has killed. Karma

I disagree with killing for "sport" unless you are feeding a Family and you have to do it for survival. I learned to hunt and shoot since I was little and later went into law enforcement since I was 21 and have over 50 years experience. It is better to commune with nature and not upset the "balance" Native American Indians know and understand all this. Nothing goes to waste. It is also bad Karma not to pray over the "food" you have "harvested" for your "survival". Killing is Killing. I hope most of you will understand. Take care....

***** Thanks Gus! Very good answers and professional. I have considered hunting again as I used to when I was a child/teen in Texas. Nothing too serious. I am doing serious research on our Native American Ancestors and "other" American hunters have all but depleted the Buffalo. I think Bears should be protected and Boars hunted. I used to be a Fed and cross trained Fish & Wildlife. I carried a gun for over 40 years but in law enforcement. I also worked at the U.S. Mexican Border and enforced 40 agencies 400 laws, etc..I've seen a few videos with bow hunting Bears and they were allegedly within 3-6 feet? Wow ! A little too close, even for Smokey the Bear. Just wondered what the best type of bow is good for me? I am 6'3" tall large build. Special arrows? Tips? Or would you trust an old fashioned wooden bow(Indian style??) Stay safe okay ?
@JohnDrakeMI69 жыл бұрын
***** Nice ICON Michael! Cloak & Dagger stuff is my background. The biggest problem the Native American Indians had was they were LIED to and they tried to believe their could be Peace between the White American settlers. The Government has not changed very much in 200 some years. American children are NOT taught the Truth about how bad our Calvary and military acted towards the Native Americans by killing women and children and taking their "Scalps", etc...A whole "Culture" was practically wiped out for what? Railroads, Settlers, "Progress"?? I remember the story about how General Custer allowed some high ranking Indians to a "Peace" talk under a flag of truce and were all hanged or killed. ALL the alleged "Peace" Treaties were violated by our Government and Military. In other countries like Japan, the natives who are special or significant are given protected status as living historical landmarks.....PEACE !

Hunting in this form does keep the balance in a good place. There is a lot of research to determine how many can be harvested, and nor over harvested. To be in close proximity to something so big and lethal, would be communing at the apex. I hope you back up your position with money. The revenue for hunts such as this, do more to ensure wildlife thrive, than the hot air you put out. Bad for the ozone too.
