Hi everyone, I'm the writer/director of ANDROMEDA and just wanted to say a big thank you for all your thoughtful comments on my film! It's been so cool to see the reaction and read all the interpretations, debate, and most importantly, that this film impacted people emotionally. It's really humbling so see so thank you so so much! A little back story on this film, if you're interested, ANDROMEDA was actually my first live action short I made back in 2018. I was working full time as a story artist / storyboard artist in animation at the time and after going through some life-changing personal events I had this creative urge to express my thoughts and feelings into what ultimately became this film. I think what interested me most was the question of how one lives a fulfilling life, and themes of death, memory, regret, love and hope. Big themes and not easy ones to tackle haha. I've always loved science fiction and fantasy genres and I wanted to test myself creatively in telling a more mature story than what I'd done before. The film began as a short scene and as I kept writing and more people wanted to get involved it became this 15min film... I guess I had more on my mind that I wanted to tell. Another fun fact about this film is that it was prepped in about 5 weeks and shot in only 2.5 days in 3 locations in total. We had to do it that way for budget and everyone's schedule, but it was definitely a whirlwind process! Many moments on the beach at twilight were done with one take only because we were running out of daylight. So it's a real credit to our performers and our crew that we were able to pull it off. I'm also happy to say that many of the cast and crew have gone on to work on amazing things after ANDROMEDA and it's been a joy to see their careers blossom. For myself, if you're interested in seeing my latest work, please check my episode of LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS Vol. 3 Episode 3 "THE VERY PULSE OF THE MACHINE", which is available on Netflix. I like to push myself across mediums so I'm also working on my first graphic novel, which won't be out for a while. I occasionally post updates of what I'm up to on instagram so find me there! Finally a big big thank you to all my cast and crew of ANDROMEDA, to Dust for reaching out and sharing our film with the world, and to you all for supporting us :))) Sending good vibes to all! :) Em

A beautiful film... contrary to the tech's accusations; Andromeda's child/human stayed with her always and loved her to the end and Andromeda herself became alive through that love. The ending was heartbreaking...
@Albtraum_TDDC
@Albtraum_TDDC Жыл бұрын
Did Andromeda get empathy rating off the charts when her child friend died, so then she went to the beach alone, where they found her? Or did she get empathy rating so high when the child gave her the heart gift and then went to the beach and was attacked. So she killed that man and then remained with her child friend until she grew up and died? The sequence of events is unclear. What were you going for? Also, the child friend seemed to die a bit young, not like an old grandma (without kids of her own maybe). Seemed to be sick too, with those medical images.

@@Albtraum_TDDC Andromeda had a high empathy rating because of her love for her human companion, the little girl we met in the first scene. That first scene with the little girl is a prologue to events that happen later. The scene at the end is a flashback that reveals Andromeda had been with the girl for her entire lifespan.

Omg. I hardly ever comment on these shorts, but I found this one to be beautiful and profound. I was completely engrossed in this. The soundtrack made it for me. I found the soundtrack to be incredibly beautiful and poignant and tragic. And something about Andromeda being on the beach (in the early hours of the morning?? At a New Dawn??) and the shot of her standing in front of the rolling expanse of ocean (of potential??). An amazing short. Thank you.

Regardless of all the AI issues that this film brings to the fore, I just enjoyed it at face value. The little girl was such a good actress and I loved the relationship between the two of them. It was great the way the story ended, projecting into the future and the life they had together. Very well done. Pity the man had to die. I always wonder why the bad guys have to die. Why can't someone envisage a conversion of heart for them that will show that it's possible for people to change? I rarely see that in a film. This film was a story well told. Thanks for sharing.

Well, not all humans are equal - would I give up the life of a crazed serial killer for the continued existence of an empathic A.I. - undoubtedly yes, as an extreme example. But simply put, some humans are not deserving of the life they were granted , and anyone who says that each and every human life is equal and perhaps higher than that of another sentient being (even one that is manufactured) is obviously delusional (especially if that human being is dangerous, unhinged, and exhibits psychotic, antisocial or pathological behaviour.
