I just used this video to replace the alternator on my daughter’s 2011 XD and it was a lot of help. Thanks for doing this. I loved that you used the fast forward instead of unnecessary talking. Great job. Thanks again

In a post on Facebook I saw that they dismantled almost the entire front, thanks for this video.

Yeah I saw some videos where people went way overboard disassembling. I tried to do the job only removing what was necessary

Great job. I haven’t changed an alternator in 15 years. This was helpful in planning. Thanks!

Bruh, how loose does that bottom long bolt have to be? I can barely get my socket back on and the alternator still doesn't want to come out LoL
@wils_builds5 күн бұрын
I took the bolt all the way out when I did it

This video helped me last night get home from a big trip thank you! But now I have it on I get a big squeak/screech when I first turn it on. What can cause that?
@wils_builds9 күн бұрын
Glad this video helped you! The squeak could be caused by a dry belt. Not sure how to fix that but definitely check the tension on the belt and possibly add some lubrication to the belt.
@raulzamaniego24579 күн бұрын
@@wils_builds well for one thing I’m confused on how far does the tensioner bolt need to be in?
@wils_builds9 күн бұрын
@@raulzamaniego2457 there’s no specific distance it needs to be tightened. Just enough to where the belt is tight and no slack. A trick I’ve seen is spraying the belt with WD 40. You could try that

Good video- Not shown was your marking the location of the tensioner bolt before loosening it. You have a black mark on the slider bracket marking the location of the pointer on the tensioner bolt so that you were able to tighten the bolt back to the exact same location and maintain the correct belt tightness. The black mark is shown in your video and you retightened the bolt so that the pointer was at the same position, but you didn’t explain this in the video.

Thanks for pointing that out! This was the first video I ever made so Its not as thorough as I would have hoped. Thanks for watching though!

I'm about to go do this myself. As someone that never works on vehicles, wish me luck. Also I just wanted to verify, the only tools i need would be socket sizes 14, 10, and 12 mm with and extended socket wrench?
@wils_builds Жыл бұрын
Hey, here are the tools I used. Sockets - 10, 12,14 Wrench - 12 Breaker Bar Ratchet Bungee Cords Hope this helps you!

How do i know how tight the belt needs to be?

I didn’t show it in the video but I made a mark on the bolt before loosening the belt tensioner

Could be your battery? Make sure that everything is connected on the alternator. There is a power wire held on with a 10MM and a wiring harness that plugs in.

@@wils_builds I have the ground hooked up I’m wondering if I deep cycled my battery one too many times I had a heated seat that killed my battery once and I had to run it for 5 mins with no working alternator my battery tests 11.6 v so I’m going to get a new one hopefully just don’t want to keep throwing parts at it without a proper diag

@@wils_builds it will crank but not start my starter is trying really hard I think I have enough amps to get my engine to crank but not enough to ignite the spark plugs
@wils_builds Жыл бұрын
@@izzyskinnychin1462 I suggest taking it to a mechanic so they can do a thorough test of your battery and charging system. Your battery does seem to be dead since its running less than 12V.
