Had s similar experience, expect it was an actively used backpack. Sandwich just hide beneath all the books i had in there. Lost some keys, took out everything to look for them and found a moldy sandwich. Probably a couple months and got very mushy. Impressive ziplock bag. Didn’t rip with all the book and tossing of backpack everywhere. Reason it took so long to find this forgotten sandwich was there was absolutely no smell either.

I've been composting for about a year now. I started with just a small extra trash can on my balcony, but then someone tossed their compost tumbler on the curb so I upgraded. I did a little bit of checking to see what I showed or shouldn't throw in there, and most of my compostable waste at home tends to be cellulose/lignen matter, so that keeps things going nice and slow. At one point, however, with that much cardboard and paper waste in there I was growing a colony of tall skinny mushrooms.

Actually, in my household oxidized apples are seen as a snack for people with stomach problems. You just slice it really thin or you grate it and wait for about 20 min and then you eat it. Having MCAS has made me learn everything about the food ripening and spoilage process and it’s kinda disturbing. But the bacteria on food creates histamine and normally food low in histamine can be high in histamine rather quick (not a problem for most people but significant problem for those with overactive or too many mast cells). I have learned how to avoid leftovers if at all possible.

I have pet rats and the fact they can't vomit means that, although they can eat basically anything, I have to be really careful about the couple of things they can't. It's also a good quick test to make sure a possible new vet knows what they're doing with rats. If they say your rat is throwing up or trying to, you put your fuzzy friend back in its carrier and take your business elsewhere.

You're not alone. I'm actually highly sensitive to some smells and react especially strong to perfume and cigarettes but am virtually blind or severely undersensitive to other smells. I actually was able to vaguely tell that some clothes smelled bad once, but they were really sour and I was overmedicated on a drug that exacerbated my preexisting hypersensitivity to the degree that I would feel each individual strand of fur when petting my cats. I generally can't tell when food is spoiled without visual indicators either

I did some research to figure out what the lowest maintenance composting I could possibly do was, and figured out that I'd I keep it relatively dry, it shouldn't require stirring etc. And to be fair, I don't think it has required it... but it's VERY slow, as I live in what is for practical purposes the desert. The lid for my homemade compost cage broke from the high winds we get here, but I've just left it off bc I can't remember to water it as often as necessary and it's helpful to let the rare rainfall soak in and kick that decomposition back into gear for a few days 😂

I was cooking a bit older edamame while watching this... It had lighter, white spots as in looking dry... Couldn't even try to eat it. The only eggs I had are old, and water test didn't really help to know if they're good. I am now scared to eat... T-T but thank you for the information

@@droppedoutof80s37 Good to see that you’re still alive, means that your meal was not fatal at least.

You did a really good job in explaining why you shouldn't eat moldy food, but unfortunately you didn't for meat. I want to have some realism in a story where people will starve if they don't cook up some meat that was stored a bit to long. what are the things that could happen, besides tasting or smelling bad if properly cooked, so there are no live bacteria anymore?

How funny; I was just starting to throw up and then this video came in autoplay 😂 It was my background sound to a pretty crappy bout of what I suspect is food poisoning. It sucked, but it wouldn't have been so bad had it not also caused a nosebleed and a Charley horse in my jaw. 😫
