While scientists have debunked the notion that putting artificial sweeteners in your coffee will give you cancer, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should go hog wild with them.

I've met one too that appeared near perfect: very feminine in her ways making her more attractive than she was, extroverted, charismatic, cool under pressure, knows what she wants and how to get it, but also the best liar I've ever seen and manipulative. To top it all off she once dropped her sweet mask and left no doubt that she doesn't give a damn about human lives! I also met another woman that reminded me of an anime girl: Asian, super girlish and clearly on the obsessive and impulsive side. Unlike the prior mention, she was convicted for a violent crime (in response for being targeted by a skinhead twice her weight class!). Someone suggested dating her and I replied that I don't want dead cats in the mailbox when I break up because it didn't work out...

The body natually guides itself to taking in exactly the calories needed to cause no weight loss, or return to a previous level, because at normal weights it is healthy to maintain that. Kind of plays out differently with abundant food (i.e. we don't starve, abundant food doesn't make you fat), but it's not a bad method of survival. The biggest problem is actually the food, which is engineered to make the most people eat more of it.

Something I read in a medical report, once, that it might not be the artificial sweetener used in the drinks that are causing the diabetes, but, the fact that some people, not all, think that because they are consuming diet drinks, that it gives them a go-ahead to consume more treats with sugars in them; donuts, twinkies, cakes, pies, etc. I'm sure someone will correct me on this. And, no, I only consume two, maybe three, packs of pink stuff a day, in coffee or tea, and detest desserts.

Kiiind of. It's not conscious. The brain tries to maintain it's weight as a healthy baseline, so if it doesn't see the calories, it tries to balance out. Although sweeteners do also mess with the balance, since the brain expects calories, and it literally makes you feel hungry all the time, that is, ghrelin+leptin become bad indicators to your body.

If you want to improve your over all health, eat better and don't worry about the sweeteners as much as eating enough veg and getting exercise. ~ Diabetic guy who uses sucralose. In my experience the issues with sweetener are over all diet related. Someone who consumes one or two liters of sugar free soda a day - consumption rates a lot of the animal models are based on as a minimum - is going to have other consumption habits that are the real problem. But if like me you just drink a bit too much coffee which translates to 8 so spons of sucralose a day, it's not really a problem.

A biologists FOOLPROOF guide to weightloss? "Consume fewer calories than you expend" there are no gimmicks, no tricks, no cheats. Intake -expenditure = amount of fat gained or lost. And people always bring up thyroid issues and lifestyle, and metabolism and food digestion, but all that does is affect the rate/amount of calories being absorbed/burned. My original statement still stands. No matter HOW your body functions, or what kinds of foods you eat. If your body absorbs more calories than it uses, you will gain weight. If your metabolism slows, then all you did was lower the "expenditure" variable. If you eat lots of fatty high calorie foods without gaining weight, you must have a high expenditure variable in your equasion. And saying some foods aren't metabolized well is irrelevant, because foods that don't provide dietary calories aren't added to the intake variable.

Not necessarily true. Different foods are digested differently, and that dictates whether you'll gain fat or not. I eat a diet very high in fat, and calories, I have no trouble maintaining a healthy body weight. This is due to eating a purely carnivorous diet. Carbs are metabolized differently, and you need to watch how much you eat, on top of that you'll gain weight faster if you mix carbs with fat. It's not as simple as simply "reducing calories"
@rydaddy2867
@rydaddy2867 5 жыл бұрын
The other aspect that "Consume fewer calories than you expend" is oversimplified is that is assumes your baseline level of calorie expenditure is not LINKED to your calorie intake, which is a bad assumption. Decrease your calorie intake and your body will decrease your calorie expenditure by halting "non-essential" functions like rate of digestion, repair to satellite tissues (like joint cartilage), speed of brain and nerve functions, etc. Essentially your ingrained, nomad, animal-survival skills kick in to say, "There's not a lot of food here, gotta conserve until we get to an area with more food." So its a delicate balance between ENOUGH to keep your body operating at full function, but not so much excess that your start putting away energy stores for the really hard times...fat.

I get migraines pretty regularly. I saw a spike of them during my undergrad. I used to drink 2-3 diet cokes for caffeine a day, but I didn’t drink regular coke because of the sugar and calories. I stopped drinking diet and switched to coffee for my caffeine intake and suddenly I saw a drop of about 70% in my frequency of migraines. Now I only get the most severe migraines maybe every other month instead of a less severe one once or twice a week and severe ones about 2-3 times a month. I don’t get nearly as many and the more severe ones don’t seem as bad. It was immediate once I stopped drinking sodas with artificial sweeteners. I don’t eat anything else with artificial sugar so I feel I can link this directly to my migraines. I also have met two people who are “allergic” to artificial sweeteners. So I'll put this out there... about a year ago I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 26. Shocking right? Turns out my diet was massively to blame, lots of sugary drinks at work (I work in food so they were free) caused a huge issue. Besides that, I had a huge carb intake in my normal diet as well which compounded the issue. I only noticed it when I started losing my vision after taking some steroids to help me get better from a cold that wouldn't go away. Long story short, I monitored my diet, ate less carbs overall and found a semi balance with the things I eat. It's still a work in progress, but I'll note this here, a change in my drinking habits definitely helped along with my diet changes. I almost instantly changed from sugary drinks to artificial sweeteners and while it was a very slow going process, I lost weight and controlled my diabetes because of the lost weight. Currently I'm not on medication and I haven't had any spike in my blood sugar levels, even when I gorge myself on occasion. You can turn yourself around. Just takes some creativity and knowing what you are eating. Talk to a nutritionist, it can change your life.

Some people, like myself, are extremely sensitive to artificial sweeteners. I have always been thin, underweight, so was drawn to them only out of curiosity, thinking that theoretically it would be a good alternative to having a sugary drink for the sake of my teeth, if I were out and about and not in a place where I wanted to go brush my teeth. When it was first introduced, I also thought Gatorade (which was artificially sweetened) would be a good electrolyte replacement for when I was exercising and sweating a lot. I bought it a few times, but hated it, and couldn't really drink it. My reaction to drinking 2 oz. of an artificially sweetened diet drink is to get a slight headache (and I am not headache prone at all), constriction in my throat (which goes away after an hour), and a mood change to depressed and feeling of being very unwell which can last hours and into half of the day following. I am not prone to depression and so in the rare instances when I am depressed, it is alarming and unusual. The taste of artificial sweeteners rot in my mouth. I think it is possible that is a natural signal my body gives me that it is poison for me. I detect the sweetness fine, but the rest of the taste is rotten, horrible tasting, like how could people drink this stuff? Of course, it doesn't taste that way to most people, or they'd be like me, unable to use it. I realized one day that if I brushed my teeth too much in one day, like four times, I would feel sick, and that it was from the artificial sweetener in the toothpaste, even though I rinse five times. I switched to using just a tiny amount of toothpaste and combining it with baking soda, and I'm okay with that. Starting in about 1960, my father was diagnosed with mild Type 2 diabetes, and he controlled it for the rest of his life with diet only, by avoiding sugars including fruit, and staying low in starches. But he struggled for his whole life with depression, and I wonder now if it's possible it was because of the artificial sweetener he used in his coffee and other foods.

The taste of an electrolyte drink is much different, because it is normally designed to replace the nutrients lost in sweat. Making it salty. Not to say artificial sweeteners don't taste bad. It is too strong and always has an odd aftertaste.

If you draw a line down your brush, you're using way too much (a (literal) pea size amount is correct). You could also feel sick from swallowing toothpaste. The amount of toothpaste otherwise, and the amount of sweetener, is so small it shouldn't do much.

There's nothing wrong with calories at a healthy weight, without companies making their food addictive. The body is designed to stop eating when it meets it's needs, but food productions methods that also involve sweeteners, cause the natural fullness indicators to break down, as well as flavorings which signal nutrients that aren't there.

I’ve had type 1 diabetes for many years, so I am very familiar with artificial sweeteners. I had to stop having aspartame (Splenda, blue packets) because it caused me to have side effects like migraines, and digestive problems. Saccharin has a terrible aftertaste and often ruins the flavor of the thing its trying to sweeten. (Sweet’N Low, pink packets) I try to stick to Sucralose (Splenda, yellow packets) or more naturally derived ones, (Stevia etc, green packets) because I suffer from less side effects from those. There is also a study about how aspartame might break down at certain temperatures verses other synthetic sweeteners.

The thing with sucralose is that, despite not having calories, its chemical structure is so similar in a way to saccharose that the body confused it for it and produces an insulin spike. In the long term the effect is similar: energy is stored as body fat, since the body thinks that there is free glucose already.

Can't be repeated often enough: eat less, exercise more. The only way to really get rid of useless weight. (Easy to write, sitting in front of my computer munching gingerbread... :-) But in all seriousness, if you need to lose weight, try to find ways to at least do a *bit* more exercise - doesn't have to be sport from day one. Stop using escalators and elevators, for example. Consider walking (not running, that's likely bad for your joints) if your destination is not too far (for example, I've started to walk to the train station each day - about 10-15 minutes of peaceful walking in the (currently) cool weather). And don't listen to those 110% macho guys who'll try to tell you that it only counts if you do heavy sports at least 10 times a day. Anything is better than just sitting around.

While exercise does have an effect, just eating low carb and try not to eat too much protein (happens to many meat lovers i imagine) should be enough (and not ultra procceced food ethier, because that will get you hooked as well).
@soulshattersman1407
@soulshattersman1407 2 жыл бұрын
@@loganwolv3393 Actually incoorporating more protein in your diet can help with weight loss. Look up the Thermic Effect of Food, here's a link to wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_dynamic_action#:~:text=The%20thermic%20effect%20of%20food%20is%20the%20energy%20required%20for,Protein%3A%2020%20to%2030%25. Since losing weight is about a caloric deficit, when you eat protein 20-30% of the calories/energy from that protein is used to absorb and digest the food, more so than carbs(5-10%) and fat(1-5%). This means that if you do eat a good amount of protein(recommended 1g per pound of bodyweight). For a 120 pound person that's about 100 extra calories burned by eating 120g of protein. Protein has 4 calories per gram Carbs have 4 calories per gram Fats have 9 CALORIES PER GRAM Fats have about double the Calories than in Protein in Carbs, so be careful with your fats(I'm not saying don't eat fat, just don't eat too much). This is why high-fat foods tend to have more calories than low-fat foods. There's nothing wrong with eating more than enough protein too, as protein, just like fiber, helps with satiety, making you more full and less likely to crave and binge eat(possibly). And Overall, don't be afraid to eat all food groups, it's not a specific macronutrient that's making you fat, it's the amount of CALORIES/ENERGY your eating. Try including more fiber in your diet, as it will help you feel more full, and less likely to binge eat. The Recommended amount of calories per day is 2000(which of course is not for everyone), This is called a BMR or Calorie Maintenance, the amount of calories your body needs to maintain it's weight. Let's translate this into easier terms. Suppose you are given 2000$ per day(big money!), now you could spend it all, and have none left(which basically translates meeting your Calorie Maintenance), you could be in debt by paying more than your allowance(This is a Calorie Surplus, in which your body stores extra calories as Glycogen[extra energy] and Body Fat), or you could spend less than 2000$(This is a Caloric Deficit, your body will use some of your Body Fat to cover the missing calories, this IS HOW YOU LOSE WEIGHT, in a CALORIE DEFICIT.) I know it may be a bit confusing, but hopefully this makes sense. If your smart and want to make your money stretch, you would want to buy items that don't cost too much/don't have too many calories. These are Low-Calorie dense foods. Foods that you can eat a lot of for not that many calories. Not all fruits and veggies are low-calorie dense, but a lot are. An example of a low-calorie dense fruit is watermelon, You can eat a lot of watermelon for not that many calories. Compare this to a high-calorie dense fruit like Avocados. Avocados are high in healthy fats like nuts, but they're also high in calories just like nuts. So if you're trying to lose weight, go easy on the Avocadoes, as because they have a lot of fat, they tend to have more calories than other options. Remember, just because a food is healthy(like Avocadoes and Nuts, FULL of HEALTHY FATS), doesn't mean it's low in calories. And if you're trying to lose weight, not be hungry all the time, and maintain a calorie deficit, you should eat foods that are higher in protein and Fiber. I'm not saying that your protein source has to be meat, there's plenty of protein in Mushrooms, Spinach, Vegan Meat/Meatless Meat, Fat-Free Cheese(Yes it has more Protein than regular cheese, and less calories which means you can eat more for less), Watercress, Egg Whites, etc. You can get protein from so many foods other than meat. And in terms of Artificial Sweetners... you're probably not eating 18 Zero Sugar Coke cans worth of artificial sweeteners. As long as you eat it in moderation you will be fine. If the Diet Coke will stop you from drinking regular coke, than go for it, as you will drink less calories overall. Once again, losing weight is all about being in a calorie deficit, eating less calories than you burn. I would suggest doing a bit of research into good substitutions for high calorie dense foods, and there are plenty on KZfaq and Google, you have the internet at your fingertips, why not use it to better yourself and find out more about your health and wellness? Pizza, Burgers, Fries, Ice cream, Muffins, Cakes, Candies, and Cookies can all be remade to have less calories as long as you have the right ingredients and a functioning kitchen. Try to limit your fast food, and when you do get fast food, make the lower-calorie dense option. Just to Name 2 People who could help, here are some names: James Remington Greg Doucette

@@soulshattersman1407 First of all, calories are next to useless because your body is not a robotic system, it's a living being wich has hormones so different calories will not be treated the same, they serve different functions. And 2nd yeah in the mean time i've found that protein actually only turns into carbohydrates (wich is 90% of what's making you fat if we exclude fiber) only when it needs to, wich supports your point about protein. Now back to the first point - fat like you said has more calories than carbs and protein but really that tells you nothing when it comes to weight loss because look, dietary fat aka trygliceride is made of 3 fatty acids that are bound to a glycerol backbone. Well the fatty acids have many different roles like transporting fat soulabe vitamins and minerals while the glycerol as far as i know will turn into carbohydrate (glucose to be specific) based on demand, so the body will store it somewhere until it needs to use that glucose. But still fat can still stop you from weight loss because even if you're fat adapted, you're gonna burn off that fat you ate and not the fat wich is in your belly and around the organs but it's pretty rare that someone eats too much fat, usally people eat too much net carbs and too much omega 6 fats wich are inflammatory and somehow can also cause weight gain. And most of the omega 6 fats come from seed oils, with canola it dosen't seem to be that bad but still all seed oils are oxidized so really you should heavily restrict these.

I realised after day 2 of my symtoms that it might be because of that and stopped drinking them. Two days later they were gone... so i tried drinking it again, but this time only Moster Ultra. And again two days later the symptoms came back, this time even worse. Now the lower lid of my right eye also started to twich ocasionally plus the old symptoms. So i stopped drinking them on 11.1.19 again, on sunday 13.1.19 it went away and i tried drinking the sugar variant of Monter. Increasing evidence also exists that they interact with your brain in other ways. Basically, all artificial sweeteners -- even the ones that don't stimulate insulin -- are not metabolically inert and you can't really "cheat" on sweets. The consensus is that artificial sweeteners mess with your brain's weight regulation mechanisms, possibly by making you hungrier later, or that they cause insulin resistance. Also, just using common sense -- if artificial sweeteners really "worked" then people should feel the same satiety from eating them as compared to eating real sugar, but they obviously don't. You would inherently lose weight due to the massive decrease in carbs and overall calories when all other foods stay the same. Like, I eat a lot of yoghurt and quark because it's cheap protein, but good luck finding a flavoured yoghurt that doesn't contain either a *lot* of sugar, or artificial sweeteners. And I don't know about you guys but I just can't get excited about waking up to a lovely pot of unflavoured quark for breakfast. Since I leave for work early and have breakfast there, I don't have the time or will to flavour it myself... but there's no such thing as a flavoured yoghurt, in any shop in my entire area, that just has a *little* bit of sugar or naturally sweet fruit. It's jam, aspartame, or go home.

I noticed since i took artificial sweetners for 2 years my waist got wider no matter how much weight i lost. And as soon as i stopped, after several months my waist looked smaller, and yet i was the same or 5-10 lbs heavier. I kinda want to keep doing that experiment for myself, but at the same time, i missed my waist to hip ratio. It's been a year since. Still same weight and bmi of 25.

I'm a perfect example of using stevia. I completely went cold of sugar drinks and most sugar when I changed to stevia. I only drink water and a black green tea iced tea sweetened with stevia every single day consistently for over Idk 3 years. I swear by this stuff. Now I don't overuse, but I consume and put around 2 cups of stevia in each pitcher of tea, sometimes 1 and 1/2. I don't ever have these confusions with hunger or fullness, for me that is a myth, but I do keep a trim waist. I have worked out for at least 1 year with this and I have spent 2 years not hardly working out at all, like nothing, mostly working the couch or desk chair, but I have still lost weight even now. Sugar tastes sweeter and for me overtime I prefer the taste of stevia over cane sugar or high fructose. I don't throw up or have bad stool, nothing is irregular unless I made a bad decision to eat some 3 hour old pizza. Now I don't know if it can be the stevia or the green tea that helps me lose weight (along with healthy eating) but I use every single day for 3 maybe 4 years, only water and tea and the occasional soda or juice.

personally, my family is heavy on artificial sweeteners, but that's mostly because my dad is diabetic, and there is a high genetic risk for me and my sister. I also just straight up can't stomach excessively sweet or sugared foods, but that might be because i grew up in a minimal sugar household. (That, and giving large quantities of sugar to an ADHD person does not end well. I know sugar rushes don't quite work that way, but i know that i have a significantly harder time focusing when i've ingested a lot of sweets)

I've drank the stuff since the 90's and don't have any issues. All the breakdown chemicals in Aspartame are either already produced in our bodies or consumed in natural foods in higher levels. Based on all the studies I've went through it looks like Aspartame is the most safe of all artificial sweeteners, even safer than stevia. In a perfect world we would all drink water but the next safest thing seems to be aspartame compared to other sweeteners based on the science. Btw, the mice with altered gut microbiome wasn't from aspartame, there was a human study on this as well but aspartame had almost no effect at all but stevia and splenda did. So again, stick with aspartame.

I refuse to give up sweetened coffee but also don't want to be grossly overweight or diabetic, so I've been using aspartame. Same here. I drank diet soda my whole childhood, but don't much anymore. It bugs me seeing products at the store proudly declaring they've replaced aspartame with some newer less-researched sweetener. Sucralose tastes fine to me, just a little different, but I get a really bad aftertaste from stevia. I think because I always drank diet, I never felt like I "earned" the right to eat more just because I was having a 0-cal drink. I've always been at a healthy weight regardless of what I drink. The only exception was the start of college when I started drinking regular cherry coke without thinking, and gained 10 lbs the first 3 months. Once I noticed, I switched back to diet, and dropped the weight in the next 3 months.

To be honest I've used artificial sweetners for over 25 years now (I'm 52) and use them quite a lot e.g. just in one cup of coffee i put 2 saccharin tablets (used to use three) and a spoonful of asparatime ( both in combination as they give a closer taste to sugar) and plenty of spoonfuls of asparatime on my cereal and I've never had a health issue- I even do clinical trials volunteering some times so you have to be fit to do these with a full medical to boot! Am not saying that they haven't affected me in some way but am definitely not aware of it ! I do have good genes though e.g. my parents died at 87 and 89 .

According to many sources I checked, you seem mostly correct. They all agree with you that certain substances like msg, nitrates, sweeteners, sugars, and alcohol can be migraine TRIGGERS in people who already HAVE issues. But they all say that this only applies to migraine patients, not the general population. This also does NOT mean that the sweeteners CAUSED your condition.
