The relationship between the boss and the employee is very important to company productivity, but it can easily become complicated. Those who supervise people have to be cautious about what to say, how to act, and how involved they can get in their employees' lives. Managing such a relationship is definitely a precarious balancing act. But bosses can be friendly even without sitting down with the people they supervise and chatting about the weekend. Old job: I had a customer who would routinely ask me out (I already told him no a million times. He was easily 50, I was a mere 20) finally one day my manger was standing nearby and hear him creep on me again, and I said “I have to check with my mom first.” And looked to her, she gave him a stern look and shook her head then I turned back to him and said “My mom says I can’t go out with you.” And he went pale thinking she was actually my mom. It's great to see photos like these. So many in the workplace anymore run to HR if a co worker even looks at them a second longer than the complainer thinks they should have... My brother and I (I'm his sister) ran a family business - it's good to be boss, btw :D We sold flooring, appliances, and furniture. All of our employees (with one meth head exception) worked for us for years. It wasn't uncommon for terms like 'you asshole' and 'hey shithead' to be tossed around between us...with us laughing of course. But when customers were around, the help were always well mannered and showed 'proper respect' to us, and we to them. I think having this laid back attitude and the joking around made the daily grind a little less stressful and the time go by quicker. Our guys worked their butts off and always went the extra mile for us, and in return, we tried to treat them more like friends than employees and paid them well and did what we could to help them too, if they needed help in their private lives. Some were loans and some were just gifts...like we would co-signing for cars, helped one of them buy a home (helped him with all the paperwork and some of the down payment, and another of our guys got over a thousand dollars in needed dental work. None of them ever stiffed us on loan repayments...and in some cases, like the dental work...my brother and I just split the bill between us, and paid for it out of our own pockets.
