Gilda's return was great, and so was both her character development, and understanding just why she was the way she was back in Season 1. As to the Gala ep, common theory is the Smooze goo didn't actually stop Celestia from using magic, she was just in full Trollestia mode and wanted to see where this would go. Also The Smooze is a huge call back to the original Gen 1 MLP show, being one of the top three most remembered villains of that series along side Tirak and Grogar.

First I didn't like Gilda because she was mean and rude, but it really isn't her fault, she just grew up in a really bad town.

The part where Discord opens the portal in those puppets' dimension broke me a lot the first time I watched it, Tree hugger line just made it even funnier

Congrats Scoot, For you have witnessed both a new location in Equestria and the return of Gilda after her 4 season absence! "Make New Friends But Keep Discord" is one of my favorite season 5 Discord episodes, Seeing Discord go through all sorts of shenanigans just to get Fluttershy's attention was hilarious and everyone instantly adored Tree Hugger. Both because she was a hippy and because she was very chill and laid back! And fun fact: The Smooze is another creature left over from the previous generations of mlp. G1 or 2 I believe. Anyway I was happy that Discord learned his lesson in the end. As for "The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone" Like I said it was interesting episode because not only does Gilda return but we also got to see a whole new location in Equestria, It was a truly good opportunity to expand the world of FIM to lands beyond it. And even though I wasn't happy about Gilda returning at first, I was glad RD and Gilda patched things up and Gilda started to become nicer as a character.

Discord’s jealousy is amusing, but the one I think stole the episode was Tree Hugger. That blissful, yoga pony deserves better.

The tree of harmony is connected to the castle and the map and the tree of harmony is sentaint meaning it's alive well all trees but the tree is more alive as it can think for its self and do many more things you will see in later seasons

You noticed "Metal Gear Solid" reference, but you failed to notice Warhammer 40k reference (the Sign of Chaos which appears on the knob of Discord's cane when confronted by Twilight) and "The Shining" reference (the Smooze pouring out of the closet in exact same manner as the blood pouring out of the elevator, plus the foal who sees this is a ponified version of Danny).

I'm going to say this once Discord has made mistakes and the other villain before tricked him but that wouldn't have happened if twilight and the girls were more accepting of him besides just fluttershy, if he had actually felt real friendship a little more than what they had given him, he might have made a different choice, but then again when someone offers you the temptation of pure power and freedom, in his eyes he still felt he was caged he was being imprisoned, but he realized he was wrong, and the bad guy took advantage over his new found confusion about friendship, yeah he made a mistake but he is very new to what friendship is. But the one thing that is clear Discord only cares about Fluttershy more than any other pony.

Scoot, Twilights castle is called "the castle of friendship" and the map is the core of the castle. So when a friendship problem occurs, the map will know.

i've never liked the map very much. i kinda wish we'd seen the wrong ponies try to go on a friendship mission and then it ended badly, or really any reason why anyone would think that ONLY the ponies directly called could go.

Watching the show again, I realize the Tree of Harmony is basically an eldritch entity. At least its a benevolent one.
