I'm taking YOU into the stores shopping for vinyl records WITH ME. You'll be there AS I FIND COOL RECORDS. I'll show you how I do it. How to find places to find vintage vinyl records. I'll show you what to look for. How to thrift for records like a pro. How to find cool used vinyl records for a fraction of the price. Much cheaper than Discogs. You'll be there as i find a bunch of great vinyl records at an Antique Mall. Secondhand stores can be a great place to find records for much cheaper than online.

6:22 Wow, that Les Baxter 'Passions' album as performed by Bas Sheva is a killer score for sure, Tuco. I bought that album in pristine condition many years ago from an eBay seller for a fairly reasonable price at the time ($15 to $25). :)

Whenever I see a Rod McKuen record, I think "I should get it for Chris Propfe, but he probably has it". Saying that, what are you missing by Les Baxter or Roger Miller? I found a Lonnie Donegan single but not a full album. Shameless plug, I've got a thrifting video up tomorrow and every Monday for the next several weeks.
@VinylHunter

Off the top of my head, the main Les Baxter's I'm missing are Hell's Belles, Space Escapades, Dunwich Horror, African Jazz. a few of the less common heavy-hitters. The only Roger Miller I'm missing is Roger & Out...i don't think it's too rare, i just haven't come across it.

A couple of things I like about watching Tuco is 1 the Nebraska scenery, 2 the commentary and 3 it seams he truly finds records in the wild, except for the last one at the record store. Nothing wrong with supporting the local record store either. But sometimes I like to see what he finds in the thrift and such. Since I really don't go to Salvation Army anymore.
@VinylHunter
@VinylHunter Жыл бұрын
There's a special kind of excitement that you get from finding records in "the wild"!...at record stores, of course you're going to find records there...so it's "expected". But when you find them in a place where it's not so "expected"...that's more exciting! I shop for records in all the usual ways too, just like everyone else does. Record stores, online, etc. But, for me, it's the most fun finding them in the wild! Thrift stores, antique stores, pawn shops, garage sales, estate sales, used book stores...

Here we go again - the vinyl-hunting music you play is already in my head! ...Well, the only excitement in that first store was you slowly approaching that guitar book! ...I found a new word at your Goodwill stop: "Xochimilco" - so now when I find a great record I will utter "Xochimilco!" How un-commercially viable is that - and it doesn't matter what the hell it really means!! ...Third stop Omaha - maybe you'll find the Moby Grape 45 of their classic, "Omaha" there! Many of their dollar records need to be dumpstered though - not fit for any decent record store because of bad condition and general crappiness. You did manage to find a few interesting ones there though (and those half-sized plastic LP crates they had there are getting hard to find)! ...My best recent finds lately are "Moog!" by Claude Denjean, "The Damnation Of Adam Blessing" LP (with "Cookbook"), a weird LP by a group called "Foxygen", and a LP by a group called "Mortimer". Until next time....!
@VinylHunter

I love how you lingered on that “The Smarts” album in the GW so that we could really take in those amazing hair doos! Man those guys were style icons! I prolly woulda grabbed that Heino just for the cover! His album covers always intrigue me with his RayBans and his bleach blonde hair and then of course when you play them it just doesn’t live up to the hype! Is it just me or does Arlo Guthrie look like Bob Geldof from BT Rats? I’m not sure I quite understand the attraction to those “space age, bachelor pad” records yet. I’ll have to dig around on YT and give it more of a listen. Now I do understand your love for exotica and spy Jazz but I feel like I’d still rather spend my $ on some psych or heavy early rock! Man I can’t wait to see the shIt you pulled from that “dig of a lifetime” You lucky bastard! Haha! JK man! Dude drop me a line but use txt cuz I’m horrible at checking my email. Peace ☮️✌️👽🤘☮️

Yeah, Space Age Bachelor Pad music is definitely not for everyone. And, of course, like everything, some is better than others. Listen to some David Carroll - Percussion In Hi Fi...that's one of my faves. Once i ran into about 10-15 Heino records...i kicked myself for not getting them...but then i listened to some...now I'm glad i didn't get them.

I'm chomping at the bit to get that "dig of a lifetime" video done! I may start working on it right away so the story is still fresh in my head (but I'll post it in its proper chronological order). That video(s?) is going to be an insane amount of work, doing all the researching...plus, I've GOT to do the old "what i paid vs actual value comparison" because the savings is astronomical! I paid $3 each record!!!

Although it's way different, i think in a way, the trippy stereo effects of Space Age music is kind of an early form of psyche music.
