On 17 December 2012 the Heythrop Hunt Ltd, their Huntsman Julian Barnfield, and Joint Master Richard Sumner, were all fined at Oxford Magistrates Court for illegally hunting foxes on four separate occasions, following a prosecution by the RSPCA. Fines and costs amounted to £26,000.
This film shows the key evidence that brought them to justice. The other three episodes of illegal hunting of which the hunt were guilty can also be found on KZfaq.
Please support the monitors, and also the RSPCA, who used the monitors' evidence to bring this landmark and historic prosecution.

7:32: Private land means you can do, whatever you want? Certainly not. Being on private land doesn't give you the right to commit crimes. Otherwise you could murder somebody in you own house and claim that it was done on private property. That's clearly not the way the law works.

Dude, heads up. They're running dog packs through the streets and running illegal hunts in and around Radley in Oxfordshire. The hunt master regularly runs his dig pack through the village. Much to the annoyance and chagrin of many of the locals. But they're "nobodies" people running the hunt are "somebodies". They're getting away with it, because the local bigwigs are onside. Weekends early mornings they regularly run the dog pack through the village.

@@kevinparker461 In the UK the fox is considered a pest by a small number of farmers who lose livestock, which can be better protected against foxes but of course it's cheaper just to kill the foxes. Research has shown that fox hunting makes little to no difference to fox populations, and if it did then it would cost farmers much more due to the increase in the rabbit population which ruins farmland. Foxes are self-regulating. They do not overbreed when food is scarce. Do you honestly believe that these people who kill for fun think that it is "pest control"? If so why do some "hunters" breed foxes, or feed wild ones in certain areas to keep the population up? It's simply because they enjoy killing, and no foxes means no more killing.

Yes, a fox being torn apart by dogs is an absolute disgrace, if they are to be culled, it must be done humanely. As someone very closely involved with lambs in Australia, I will tell you, when lambing season arrives, a single fox can ( and will) kill up to 10 baby lambs in one night, leaving them strewn about the paddock with their internals ripped out. At $ 180 + per lamb, this can break a farmer if controls are not in place. Here, the fox is an introduced species.

@@robholloway6829 yes it is illegal, however they get away with it frequently by lying and claiming it was an accident. The only way it can be proven otherwise is when the sabs catch the hunt going after the fox with the hounds and pressing them on, all in a single video. They could easily train hounds to follow an artificial scent, but they don't for the express purpose of breaking the law (just because you can lie your way out of prosecution doesn't make it legal) and furthermore the hounds have to be trained to kill foxes, it doesn't come naturally to them. While you and others are well within your rights to want fox hunting legalised, it is illegal and fox hunts are frequently criminal.

These hunt supporters are so vile and rude. Their favourite insult is usually to call you a "townie". I grew up in rural Devon and have lived within Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor. I love horses and regularly go riding and find the countryside beautiful, yet like the MAJORITY of British people nowadays I despise hunting foxes. I was too afraid to put up a "keep the ban" sign because I've heard from others that the whole village will turn against you, the shops won't serve you and nobody will speak to you or help you. I imagine there are millions of people in the countryside in the UK against hunting like myself but too concerned of the consequences of voicing that opinion which to some people makes you the lowest of the low.

It's nothing to do with 'control' and is purely a bloodsport. Hunts plan their meets months in advance so cannot react to a 'problem fox' (if a farmer deems one to be). It's also worth bearing in mind the number of hunts that have artificial earths to make sure there is a plentiful supply of foxes to hunt. It's pure luck if a fox is caught and during the cubbing season there is no differentiation at all between catching healthy or sick foxes.

Alsp: we have Red Fox in the wild here in Oklahoma. It is my understanding they wernt originally found here though. EWMarland, the founder of now CONOCO Oil Co here in OK in the 1920s was fond of hunting and had them imported for that purpose. Some got away :) and we still have them surviving in the state today . No one cares for the most part. Unless one gets to causing difficulty for a farmer. But they are generally left aline. That could be area folklore, but thats the story!

kevhunta - That is a very interesting concept, and actually may well be true! An Indian author wrote on the internet that he believed that all the killing and executing in the Middle East may well be due to inbreeding! Cruelty in a person's innate nature has probably been bred into them - think about it!

Makes me laugh people r so sad about killing a few foxes all the people moaning have probes never seen 1 and don’t live in the countryside I think they might think different if they had livestock and the foxes kept killing them and making them loose money

I actually agree. I have done an advanced deer stalking course where I had to pass an hours written exam as well as a species identification test and a strict practical target shooting exam. All before I was issued with a stalking competency certificate. Therefore I feel I am a competent shot and can make this judgement. Some animals I have been called out to dispatch have horrific wounds from poor shotgun shots. This is why I do not agree that shooting is an adequate replacement for hunting.

Also foxes which are shot at by a terrible shot (which most farmers are) will die a very long and painful death sometimes up to a week.

We could use this here in southeast Pennsylvania. There are tons of foxes and coyotes. No one hunts them since the pelts are worthless. The only positive is the coyotes eat fawns.

Given that you can't even spell 'calves', I doubt you would know that there has never been a confirmed fox attack on one. I keep seeing people running out these tired old excuses when debating fox hunting, but the question remains - why are fox hunters so ashamed of what they are doing that hey need to make transparent excuses to justify it?
