First leg of an "out of season" trip around Scotland in early March 2024 (it was cold!) on my Royal Enfield Himalayan - Ruby.
North Wales to Ullapool via John o'Groats (and the first half of the NC500)
Objective 1: Get out of bed and go.
Objective 2: Get to John o'Groats.
Objective 3: NO MOTORWAYS!.
Bonus Objective - NC500!

- Start of NC500

Wonderful! I have been visiting Scotland since before I could walk and talk, these days I get there as often as possible by motorbike, a VStrom 650. I use motorways as little as possible and did the NC500 plus in 2021. My last night in Scotland was in Kirkcudbright and I rode South via Carlisle, Penrith, round Kendal down to Lancaster etc. Preston was a nightmare on a hot Saturday and I vowed to avoid it via the M6 in the future. Next time you go up, cut across into Yorkshire and pick up the A7 or A68, both really excellent roads, also try to make it into the Cairngorms.... stunning. As for single track roads... yup, about 30 mph average, even when empty. Looks like a fantastic trip, thanks for taking us along. P.s. Also a Beeline user... love it.

Fair play to you doing it in March and on the equivalent of a 2 humped camel. That's not an insult by the way but making the similarity of may not be the quickest but can cover a big distance between fuel stops.

I had the roads to myself in March and it was a totally unplanned trip due to work forcing me to take untaken leave from last year. I like the camel analogy, I have ridden a camel, albeit one with one hump, and I can say the Himmy is far comfier and not as grumpy. Thanks for watching.
