TANTALLON - SCOTLAND'S BEST AND MOST HAUNTED CASTLE

Tantallon Castle is one of the most spectacular castles in Scotland - and one of the most haunted. We went there to explore the ruins and also had a go at flying the drone over Seacliff and above the castle itself. This is a long vlog but it's worth it to watch to the end :)

My husband & I live in California, but he is a South Queensferry boy. We go back to visit the Ferry quite often. Still he is always home sick for family & all things Scottish. Showed him this vlog this morning & he is now almost jumping out of his skin in anticipation for our July trip. Shuan, you are an excellent advocate for Lothian. Enjoying all your vlogs. Thanks!

Definitely a cool ruin! I'll add it to my list to do when next I come over from the US. I highly recommend Castle Sinclair Gringoe outside of Wick up north. It is amazing as well! A recent stabilization project is trying to save it from sliding into the sea, so it's definitely at risk. The way it's shaped to the cliffs is way cool. If you get out to Perth again, Huntingtower Castle is awe inspiring. The original plaster paintings and wooden ceiling are amazing! Especially when you're from the States and ancient is late 1600s! Enjoy your series, keep up the good work!

I went to Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, climbed to the very top (so hard for me) and about died when I looked over the edge. Fear of heights...the struggle is real 😂 I couldn’t even climb a staircase in one of the museums (mind you, it was a very massive, very high staircase). Kind of a pain, but you live with it and try to push it to the limits. Loved the video!! Thanks!

HI i'm from Brazil and i'm in love with Scotland since i started watching Outlander. Could you show us Colluden and the forests? It may seem kind of akward but here in Brazil, as you well know, we do not have woods like you do there. Our woods are always green and sometimes its kind of boring. Could you show us the Scotish forests during falls?

Hey there! I’m also from Brazil and I’ve always been fascinated by Ireland and everything about it but since I started watching Outlander, Scotland has won me over. This show is just perfect in every way, the story, the characters, the landscape, the intensity of it all. Hopefully I’m gonna get the privilege of actually seeing all that with my own eyes some time soon! Thank you Shaun for sharing such wonders with us, distant outlanders!!!

Hello, I'm glad you like Scotland. I've never watched Outlander but quite often these things aren't entirely filmed in Scotland, like that movie Braveheart (not even historically correct) lots of it was filmed in Ireland. Your asking the man who made this video to go to Culloden Moor to film it? Let me give you some geography lessons about Scotland. Stonehaven where Duntottar Castle is, is actually 16 miles from Aberdeen. That may not sound far, but even with the dual carriageway and speed limits it can take around 25-30 minutes to get there!. Now from Aberdeen where I live it's, 102 miles to Inverness where Culloden Moor is! again that may not sound far but most of the road to Inverness is single carriageway with the speed limit varying from 30 mph to 60mph. It takes the best part of 2 hours 30 minutes to get there. My father came from Inverness and would frequently take me on the train there to visit my Aunts and the train journey can take as long if not longer as it stops at most stations on the way there. Grampian the area the covers Duntottar Castle to Orkney and Shetland isles. Grampian has more castles than any other place in Scotland there are lots open to the public (admission charges) and several that are ruins. If your interested in the last battle fought on British soil.... Culloden Moor 16th April 1746. There are many places to find information. One I'd recommend is Hugh G Allison has written a book of tales from the battle field. You can find it on Amazon either Kindle or paperback. He actually has one tale about my great x5 Uncle Alexander Kinnaird was caught whittling a stick, he couldn't read or write but this was his way of matching how many cattle he was taking to the river so they could drink. This is in Banff 2-3 days before the battle, alexander was just a cow hand (hirdie) when the Duke of Cumberland (he was in charge of the English governments troops) was informed that Alexander had been counting the number of government troops, they thought he was a spy so he was hanged as such. Hugh G Allison also runs tours of historic importance from Inverness. His web page is there just google his name.

Tantallon most certainly is Haunted , I had a Ghostly presence experience I felt it (Some times I have "The Sight" as the Scots call it) when I went to Tantallon , on the wonderful Douglas Archives tour that William Douglas kindly organized I went down some steps on my own I started to feel really unwell / horrid / it felt evil down those steps, so I didn't go all the way down , unbeknowns to me until later , only minutes after I went down the whole group was taken down by Andrew Spratt "Manager and lecturer on Castles " I told one of the group I had just gone down those steps and felt really bad anyway we get to the bottom of the steps; pitch black cold, only a thin slit window, dirt floor Andrew told us the horrible gruesome story of how Janet Douglas was imprisoned in the DUNGEON , for 9 months , and on the 4-5 month the severed heads of her husband and 3 sons were thrown in there with her !! no wonder I felt so bad going down there (only part the way down before I felt it) so if you are a "Sensitive" like me , and if you visit go to the dungeon with someone else !

It may be I'm tired and a little buzzed so I wonder if that was a real person or a ghost at the very top level of that wall from 3:38-3:40. They turn to the right and move peculiarly which doesn't look entirely natural. I replayed it a few times and it's kinda creepy looking. If it's just a person never mind me haha.

I cringed when you kept saying Indian summer. I’m 62 and have lived in the NE (Pennsylvania) most of my life. My parents taught us never to use “Indian summer” because of the pejorative connotation. Suggesting Native Americans are always late or as in the phrase “Indian giver” ... ie a new summer is granted and then taken away. I understand in the UK the term “old wives summer” is used ... not a fan of that either lol. It’s so easy now to say “second summer” or summer 2.0, or halcyon days, etc. Everyone, please don’t start a fight over this. I genuinely thought this was an American expression and it was startling to hear in that lovely Scots accent. Much love. 💕🐝

Wow... this is something a lot of people here use - even in official capacity - and I had no idea about it’s source. I actually assumed more likely something to do with the country India. I will do some research on this. Thanks.
@amazinggrace5692
@amazinggrace5692 3 жыл бұрын
@@shaunvlog There are some nicer explanations, but when colonists attached Indian to a word, it generally was an insult. Sometimes people do try and explain it using the country India, but I don’t think that given any credibility. Where I live we have the perfect weather conditions for the weather singularity to occur, so we get one most years, sometimes two. It is important to know that it must occur after at least one killing frost to be counted. My husband knows someone that does weather in TV .. I’ll ask him what term they use. 💕🐝

@@amazinggrace5692 but that’s what I mean by ‘official capacity’ - I’m not saying it’s right or wrong as I didn’t know, and I bet most people in the UK didn’t know this either, but meteorologists use it in our official weather channels here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZqqgNGn2smZfKs.html
