Scott McGill Fusion Guitar Chords-Allan Holdsworth IOU

Күн бұрынThis Customized Guitar Lesson sample session demonstrates how to create a strong Fusion Chordal Vocabulary reminiscent of Allan Holdsworths's chordal work by using a C Phrygian Dominant Scale to generate new voicings for Composition and Improvisation on a few different string groups.
I studied ten years with the great Jazz Teacher/Composer Dennis Sandole who taught John Coltrane, James Moody, Jim Hall, Pat Martino, and many others.
I have played and recorded with musicians as Bassists Michael Manring and Percy Jones, Producers Neil Kernon and David Torn. Keyboardist Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater played on two tunes of my 2001 disc "Addition By Subtraction" as well.

it's also called the hijaz scale I often use it especially over the first part of the well known tune Caravan

Hey Scott, just wanted to let you know, I did a 1 5 6 10 progression in E Major Ionian and there are some very Holdsworth like sounding chords. Very interesting when taking just one structure and shifting it down or up ( modulating ), which Allan does quite often.

Indeed--keep doing it!! The voicings are in many forms of contemporary early 20th Century Classical Music.

as always your ideas sink in fast as opposed other similar vids . the 1st chord choice sounds like the harmony used on David Bowie's last title track video Blackstar , very expressive on many levels ,his last commentary on our society .

HI Scott, are those locking machine heads on that guitar ?What the make of that axe etc.

Hi Anthony. They are locking tuning keys--probably Sperzel and it is a Brian Moore i8 guitar--it has 13 pin and a piezo bridge as well.

Listen to alot of Meshuggah. They break out of a fury into weird jazz stuff and it's these kind of chords Thordendal plays. Brings alot of contrast to their music. He is also a big fan of Holdsworth.

So your interval structure is 1 4 5 10 in F harmonic minor?

Great, I'll do a chord progression in that manner. Have you tried like a 1 5 7 10? I always try to express the importance to my fellow guitarist to learn music theory. Thanks for the video.
