“What is a hasbian?” I suspect it’s a combination of the terms “lesbian” and “has been”. I believe Roxy is taking a dig at Ramona with regard to her past and brief flirtation with homosexuality.

Every time I see this movie I can't help but be amazed at Edgar Wright's directing style. This was especially fun to see in theaters where the sound design really gets a chance to pop too. Also, in hindsight, what an insane cast this movie had

The exact levels of the "bases" vary by region, but generally: First Base is kissing. Second is hand stuff above the waist. Third is hand or oral stuff below the waist. Home Run is where babies come from.

Nah, The trailers were honest about what it was. People just weren't interested. Only really got big once a new generation of viewers boosted it and then others that skipped it jumped in because it was so popular.

It's also just a challenging movie to market. Once you've seen it, it's clear how fun it is...but how do you cram that all in two minutes.

@@chand911 nope, for example in Mexico, it was just released in Mexico City and for like a week or 2, half of my high school classroom wanted to see it but we didn't lived there, it was the same for a lot of people, it had a super limited release

Fights choreographed by former Jackie Chan stunt team captain Brad Allan who also did The Kingsman, Wonder Woman and Shang Chi. Allan passed away tragically last year at the age of 48

This is the first time I’ve noticed the matching camera moves when Michael Cera and Chris Evans are in the phone booths. (Starting at 14:14) Edgar Wright is great at sneaking fun things like that in.

This whole movie is a mood from an entire generation, and it has so many video game and pop culture references from that time. I big nostalgia trip. Not to mention it also has an incredible cast. Most of those actors are A list now; Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans, Brie Larson, Brandon Routh, and Bill Hader. All when they were either unknown or up and coming.

and great perfomance by people kinda on the back end of their hot streak like Jason Schwartzman (Gideon) and Thomas Jane (Blonde Vegan Police). The other Vegan Cop , Clifton Collins jr, never a star but in a zillion things. and seems like Kiernan Culkin turned out to be "The Good Son".

The behind the scenes of how they did a lot of stunts is amazing. Even the amount of takes it took for him to throw the trash in the bin behind him is pretty crazy.

I was one of the very few people who actually saw this in the theatre, and I LOVED it. My friend and I couldn't believe we were among only a dozen or so people there on opening weekend. I'm happy it's gained such a strong cult following.

My roommate at the time worked in a theater so we'd see movies often with his coworkers, every one was blown away by how stylish this was. No idea how it didn't perform well despite poor marketing or etc

Edgar Wright is a PHENOMENAL director. One of my favorites. He also directs the Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The Worlds End). This is one of my favorite movies because it came out when I was at that age... and in a band... and was dating a girl that looked kind of like Ramona... Anyway, thanks for the reaction!

20:39 - There is an American humor trope about a guy who has a girlfriend that his friends never see, and it's because "she lives in Canada". This scene turns that trope on its head: the movie takes place in Canada and Scott's supposed girlfriend is American.

Recently learned that Chris Evans character Lucas Lee is based on the professional skateboarder-turned-actor Jason Lee. Captain America was playing My Name is Earl here.

I love how the director brought in actors who either played hero's in live action movies or would go on the play parts in other franchise and or sci-fi shows. There was (Chris Evens-Captain America and the human torch) (Mary Elizabeth Winstead-Royal Pane, Huntress) (Brie Larson-Captain Marvel) (Brandon Routh-Superman, Ray Palmer) (Thomas Jane-The Punisher) (Alison Pill-Star Trek) This was very meta. Actors playing comic book characters who played live action version of other alternate universe versions of themselves. LOL This movies kind of nailed the multiverse before it was a thing. lol

I believe they hired the stunt team that worked on The Matrix to put together the fight scenes. That's why they were so well done.

Sorry, I know you from your Marvel reviews, so I have to ask: Did you recognize Scott's Ex? Chris Evans is pretty recognizable of course but her, not as obvious. And then with comics on the mind, we know Todd (with his super human powers) played Superman and even Ramona played Huntress. So many heroes in this comic book inspired movie! :-)

Scott Pilgrim is so much fun, and it's one of those movies that gets better with repeat viewings, as you pick up on things you missed the first time round. It's also one of the better comic book adaptations out there, embracing its source material in a very respectful way while still being its own thing... and what a cast! So many people in it were just breaking out back then (and it's fun that two of Ramona's evil exes are Captain America and Superman, and Scott's evil ex is Captain Marvel!). It's interesting to note that how Ramona treats Scott is almost exactly how Scott treats Knives. They've both been in heavy relationships and are looking for something simple. Ramona even breaks up with Scott after he tells her he's in lesbians with her, just like Scott did when Knives said she was in love with him. Gotta love narrative parallels and callbacks!

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is one of the greatest comic book adaptation movies of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes due to it's story, witty and clever dialogue and humor, emotional resonance, action sequences, and performance's by the cast. Micheal Cera did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Scott Pilgrim as he put tons of emotion and depth into his role. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍👍💯😎

@@Dr.Spatula Thomas Jane cameos as one of the Vegan Police, he played The Punisher. Aubrey Plaza was on "Legion" on FX. Martin Starr also has a tiny role as the MC at the Rockit, he would go on to be in the Holland Spider-Man movies as one of the teachers, alongside JB Smoove and Hannibal Buress. So there's a couple more.

@13:55 is a reference to the three bases and home plate in the game of baseball. First Base is kissing. Second Base is touching/caressing. Third Base is oral sex. Home run (home plate) is sex. Disclaimer: I may have one or more of these wrong as I was never very good at this game in High School. @27:30 "Hasbian" = "Has Been" (Play on lesbian... ha ha....... ha...). The comic book movie connections in this movie are insane. Captain Marvel is dating a Superman and Captain America dated her ex but then her boyfriend gets de-veganized by a Punisher. :D

So the funny thing is, Nega Scott being pretty chill was pretty much hinted throughout the entire movie. Normal Scott is such a prick that the opposite of him, Nega Scott, turns out to be a pretty nice guy, lol.

I'm so happy you watched this movie and enjoyed it, I'm always a little scared because it hard such a low level of popularity when it released. I loved the concept of adding this video game element to the movie with the sounds and the graphics and it was done very well, plus there's a good amount of humor throughout. It feels very unique in its genre and all around fun :) Thanks for this reaction!

Scott is such a bad person through most of the movie, which is part of the charm. Also, 27:16 "hasbian" is supposed to be a combination of "lesbian" and "has been" (as a noun, a "has been" is someone who was once important or well-respected but is no longer).

This was directed by Edgar Wright so when you say you liked the fight scenes just know that he was supposed to direct MCUs Ant Man, but things went sideways with that. I really wanted to see Edgar's version of Ant Man.

Yes, they had to play the 'proper' Universal Logo music at some point (vs 8bit version at the beginning) so the used it to introduce Captain America, Er, I mean Lucas Lee. Scott should join the MCU since he's already defeated Captain America, Cpt Marcel and Superman (in the course of this movie)

"Has been" means something or someone that is outmoded no longer up to date, basically a "has been" is no longer significant.

Yes, there is sugar in fruit. But fruit really doesn't make you fat because fruit, apples and bananas, have a ton of fiber! And that fiber reabsorbs the majority of the sugar.
