Hey everyone, I know Austin Powers isn't "forgotten" in the literal sense... I meant it's been out of the public eye for so long that we need to say hello again. Lots of comments about that 😆 It's not meant to insult those who have been quoting and rewatching the movies ever since their release. It's for those who weren't aware of its glory days where people wouldn't stop quoting these movies. Hope that helps clarify the title of the video. Some are having fun with it, others are losing their mojo.

I remember when I saw Seth Green speak on a panel at New York Comic Con 2009, someone asked him “Why hasn’t there been a new Austin Powers movie?”. Seth Green responded “Did any of you see The Love Guru?” When very few people raised their hands, Seth said “That’s why!” That was 15 years ago, and there still hasn’t been an Austin Powers 4.

@@TheItachiIshtar Cat in the Hat dropped in 2003, one year after Goldmember and was definitely the point where Myers career started to really drop off. He had the Shrek movies to fall back on, and according to his IMDB page Shrek content was really all he was doing up until his 6-year hiatus in 2012. But I think the real reason we don't see any more Austin Powers movies is because the character had already played itself out and Goldmember felt very much like an ending to the franchise.

I think people have a somewhat skewed idea of what's "forgotten" or "underrated", as these words are constantly being thrown around on youtube about films and other media, which in fact are not underrated or forgotten. I really don't know what those words mean anymore, together with "cult classic", which often refers to films and shows that were big mainstream hits, but now are just a bit older, and didn't leave a huuuuuge cultural impact.

The real injustice wasn't that they didn't make another sequel but that they didn't make a prequel. Goldmember has by far the most perfectly cast flashback scene in the history of cinema. Those guys should have got their own movie. Also Derrick Flint from the Flint movies also a big inspiration for the character of Austin Powers. He's even watching In like Flint in the sequel and says that's his favorite movie.
@KenMasters.

The biggest mistake Mike Myers ever made: After the release of Goldmember, Myers and other filmmakers pondered on the idea of an Austin Powers prequel trilogy, an origin story taking place in the 1950s. But instead, he gave us the career destroying Love Guru… … I wanted that prequel to happen, Drake Bell would be perfect as Young Austin Powers/Young Dr. Evil, and Jude Law as Young Nigel Powers.

The first movie came and went, but the second one was like an event! I just remember, around the time the 1st one came out, every time I turned on MTV, it was Austin Powers dancing. It got annoying fast, so I didn't go see the movie. But, in the summer of '99 when I was about 14, I dated a girl who was obsessed with Austin Powers (mostly Seth Green lol), so we went and saw it in the theaters.... then about 10 more times lol. We would get dropped off there almost every day. That was a GREAT summer to practically live at the movie theater; South Park, Phantom Menace, Big Daddy, The Haunting. Anyway, after falling in love with the 2nd movie, I needed to see the 1st. I couldn't find a copy of it for months. None of the 3 video stores across two towns had it. So, I eventually was able to order a copy through my friends at good old VideoPlus. It was worth the wait, and I actually still have it. Sorry for the nostalgic rant. I love the Austin Powers movies. I saw them in reverse order, with Goldmember being first as a friend of mine, who almost became my girlfriend, and I went to see it in theatres after we'd tried to see Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones, but couldn't get together until after Attack of the Clones had left theatres. So we saw Goldmember instead. I loved it, and then, six months later, The Spy Who Shagged Me aired on TV on New Year's Eve 2002, and I taped it and watched it on New Year's Day. Then International Man of Mystery aired on TV the next year, and I taped THAT as well. Eventually I got all three movies on DVD and I watch them every so often. Great video Scotty!

All 3 movies are great and I have no beef at all with any of them. It's looking very promising that we are getting a 4th movie with Jay Roach coming back to direct and Mike Myers has high interest in returning as all 4 characters he portrays. If Beyonce who played the love interest in the last movie doesn't return for the 4th installment it won't be a surprise nor will it be a disappointment considering the love interest for Austin is different in each of the 3 previous films. Besides the fact that Gwenyth Paltrow appears at the beginning of the third movie as the love interest Dixie Normous in the Austin Pussy sequence with Tom Cruise playing Austin it would be cool to see her really betray the new love interest Dixie Normous to the real Mike Myers version of Austin Powers for the 4th movie.

1999 was, I think, the best year of the 90s. Several pop-culturally groundbreaking movies came out, such as Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, The Matrix, The Sixth Sense, and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (even if you didn't wind up liking the movie, the hype, marketing and media presence for it was through the roof). Very few movies make that same impact anymore, where you hear every other person quoting them, or you see every other thing on TV making fun of them. The Mummy didn't make quite the same cultural impact as the aforementioned, but it was successful at the box office and remains a cult classic, and it was my favorite movie from that year when I was a kid. Not to mention, the economy was great in 1999, and we were all looking forward to a brand new millennium.

I remember watching these a lot as a kid. Probably on TV in early 2000s. I never saw them in the cinema myself as I was too young but I did watch them a lot whenever they were on. I probably had the VHS/DVD near the middle of the decade but haven't seen them since then, and yeah, even as a kid I would quote the movie randomly although lines that others didn't like "What does it all mean, Basil" over the others. I actually have a pretty vague memory of my two brothers going to watch Goldmember in the cinema (I was too young at the time) and the coming back around 30 minutes later with around 30-40 packs of Pokémon cards. It turned out that something at the cinema went wrong and they couldn't show the movie which meant that everyone got a refund AND they gave away promotional Pokemon booster packs that they had for the 2nd or 3rd movie left over so we spent the rest of the afternoon opening up those packs that all had the same cards in it. Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Lugia and Ho-oh. A shame I didn't keep a few, they'd probably be worth hundreds now.

My daughter's mom tried to show them to her and she thought they were disgusting. Personally, I think they're just products of their time. I don't hate the movies, I definitely talk to my friends about standout scenes. I just haven't had the inclination to re-watch them in the last 20 years. Your video though, Scotty, was well done. I really enjoyed it.

De-thaw means to freeze. Once upon a time, Mr. Myers had a fourth film in the works, but then he made that awful Guru movie and that sort of killed any momentum he had and any pull he used to have in Hollywood. He then chose, I'm going to assume because he has enough money; to concentrate on his family and working on small projects like cameo appearances in films like Inglorious Basterds and Bohemian Rhapsody. I have a great idea for a fourth film, but - sadly - Mr. Myers is not returning my phone calls.

It's not forgotten though it won't be remembered fondly for 3 main reasons (imo): 1) When cable was watched by the majority of people, reruns had the opportunity to cement themselves as classics. For example, Home Alone, Friends, The Office, 007 complete collection during Christmas season. Now, media consumption is different - people watch something then onto the next. 2) Most (comedic) references were made when the movie was release - technology, politics, and behaviour. Its hard for modern audiences to understand the jokes. 3) Speaking of Modern Audiences, most humour then would seem extremely insensitive, racist, misogynistic, etc; you know the whole PC thing. Audiences today get offended at (pretty) much everything. Therefore, it's hard to "pass on" this movie onto future generations.

As a huge fan of the series, I feel like not only did we get burned out by the third movie, but the movie kind of sold out. The first was an original movie with passion, and the 2nd retained that but with a budget. But I feel like the 3rd movie felt like a product. Putting celebrities in and often just for the hell of it. It also repeats too much from the 2nd movie.

If Austin powers were done now and had the same time difference, it would start around when the original movie aired and then he’d be frozen and wake up now. The first movie was truly great and classic, the others were worse and worse.

Forgotten? People still say "one million dollars!" with a pinky to the corner of the mouth and anyone short is subject to Mini Me jokes. 3 films in a trilogy and done does not constitute "forgotten". We may think it is today since every damn franchise now has to have endless sequels, series and spin offs.
