As someone who's been to college it is actually true for a lot of professors. Also a lot of professors have other things you can do that will let you skip the final, like perfect attendance or turning in all your assignments throughout the semester or doing [x] hours of volunteer work for instance. Heck a lot of professors that I had didn't have final _exams_ at all, it was final essays. Yes its usually a long paper (most are 7 pages minimum) but they give you literally all the info for it at least a month in advance, and at least you can use your notes, the writing lab, help from friends, even go to the professors office hours and get help from them. Way better than an exam where you're totally relying on yourself and your memory.

I had a professor that gave everyone the option of going to see a presentation she was given instead of taking the final. You didn't have to write anything, you just had to go and say hi to her after to prove you went and she would excuse you from the final. A lot of other professors would do what's in the video, and depending on your major a lot of professors do final projects instead of exams, which are great because you have time and resources to put together your paper/presentation/etc. instead of having to memorize for a test. The only tests I had were in a few Math, English, and History courses, none of which were very difficult and some of which were open note.

Eating in class is a college classic. Wether it's because you don't have a lunch break, woke up late or plan to cram at the library and won't have time to eat later. Also, with professors literally leaving mid class to have a coffee, they won't judge you for eating

Right. When I was in university, food was banned during rehearsals (singing, and expensive instruments; especially those that go in the mouth), and during P.E. classes and labs, for safety reasons, but if eating in class didn't affect participation in the class, it was allowed. So, a lot of people ate breakfast in the morning during theory class.

As someone that has been told ‘you’re exempt from the exam if you’re okay with your grade’ it’s great to know I’m not alone! Some teachers do this, but only make people take it if it may help them pass or they can just do some extra credit. Though, I have had some strict teachers in college who don’t understand life happens to a chronically I’ll student and got pissed when I missed class due to an INFUSION and just said ‘I don’t want you here’ before dropping me. We have high school as a form of advanced classes in our elementary years, we have exams to test how much we learned, it's not for motivation it's for you to have a better chance in getting a good life, it's alright to not know what you want to be at the moment, there are people working in the medical field for years who just wants to be something else

My school sucks with tests, sure I may get good grades, but I have to stress over and over. Plus the school will take off points for no reason (writing in a certain type of pen(cil), sneezing during a test, asking help on a question). I got failed on a test because I was in a *coma* instead of school and they wouldn’t let me retake.
@Izzy-cp8yt
@Izzy-cp8yt Жыл бұрын
High school is primarily about teaching concepts, and they're really, *really* bad at communicating that. For example in English classes it doesn't actually matter what the books are a lot of the time, what matters is learning to critically engage with and examine media. Examining what it says about when it was written, what the author is trying to say, etc. are skills for later critically examining other media, like what you consume for leisure. Exams are supposed to gauge how well you're meeting state standards for the curriculum, but often they're either badly written, or students are being taught to the test rather than the important broad concepts, so they fail at their primary goal. And a little known secret - you don't have to know what you want to do. After graduation you can either get a job, go to trade school, or go to college, and if college is your preference you don't usually have to declare a major until your sophomore year, and you can spend the time before that clearing gen eds and deciding what you want to go for. It's incredibly common for people to change their major in college at least once, often twice.

Seriously! One of my favorites a professor did was we'd take a class period after the test to review the answers and look at the class average on each question, and if you got one wrong you could make your case for either why it's right or why the question was confusing. Then he'd drop the ones that were confusing, had multiple answers, or were just missed by most of the class, (because that indicated to him that he didn't explain it very well or spend enough time on it). Teachers in high school usually wouldn't even let you argue why your answer was correct

one of my favorite things about college (at least in my experience), compared to high school, is that many professors take partial responsibility if exam grades were low I also had a professor who always told us "do not worry about the grades you're receiving on my assignments/tests. what's most important to me, is that you all learn something. if you learn in this class, you'll do well." it was a graduate-level math class and he did grade us very harshly, but we all learned so much. and everyone received a hefty curve to their grades at the end, because we busted our asses for that class and learned a ton. he's a great guy.

High School does more to dissuade you from going to college than should be legal! My high school counselor saw me twice. Once to reprimand me for thinking outside the box and once for telling me I had no chance at college! There I was thinking no way could I take a college course that I didn't even try until I did someone else's college homework and realized I was smarter than I was ever told I was in high school! Too bad I was almost thirty before I realized high school was the true waster of my time! What killed me was a high school counselor also told me my son shouldn't go to college either because he had special needs! (He was also a straight A student!) I have satisfaction in knowing that despite having special needs, my son also has his degree! Oh I got a story for y’all (not rlly but it’s about the eating): Lots of sophomores took algebra their tenth year and had pre algebra for their freshman year to get another math credit, so my algebra 1 class was mostly sophomores. My one friend was a sophomore doing this when I was a freshman, and they weren’t the brightest. They weren’t stupid, but they were in a sped class (not too upset by it). They sometimes ate in math class and the teacher would politely call them out for it. Then there’s me. I ate ALL THE TIME in that class. I was one of the smartest kids (had a 101 in the class at the time from extra credit) and was always snacking on something. He never said anything. Wanna know what’s funny? I would also be on my phone for the entire class. Another kid asked why I hadn’t gotten my phone taken away and the teacher said it was because I was never on it. Either the teacher was stupid or favorited me. (Note: I was in the back of the class, but I wasn’t hiding my phone. It was on my desk where he could clearly see it. The kid who tried to call me out was in front of me, in the back as well. He always saw her. And while the kid who tried to eat was eating a muffin, I ate loud-ass chips. Idk what that teacher was thinking)

At my uni if you have more than 2 finals that fall on the same day you are allowed to move the remainder to a new day so you aren't so stressed lol

In high school, we had to get our caps and gowns during our lunch period, and it literally took us the entire lunch period. My friends and I, after the bell rang to be back in class, said, “no, you can’t take our food from us, we’re getting food.” We had a science class so we took a box of food we didn’t expect to be able to eat until a different class, but the teacher saw us walking in late with caps and gowns and lunches, and let us go to the back of the classroom and eat. It was ridiculous that they deprived the other people in senior year who were too nervous to get a lunch after the bell.

If anyone is in high school and your district or school offers college classes you should take them! They are a lot cheaper to take while in high school and a lot better to get it done while in high school I would strongly recommend

Someone told me that if a few people fail a test it is typically their fault bc they didn’t study, rest, double check answers, etc. but if several people fail a test then it’s typically the teacher’s fault bc they didn’t help their students fully understand the material on the test. (Ofc this is different in different situations)

my school is like that already 😈 last week the class average for a test was rlly low so the teacher took another one a few weeks later and chose the one the student performed best on to contribute towards their grade. my final exams happened last month and my teachers curved the grade as best they could to make sure no one failed

in my uni, you can freely eat and drink in most classes even if you're sitting at the front lmao the only rules are 1. don't make a mess and 2. don't make distracting noises
