Cilantro in ice cube trays with lime or lemon juice is the way i do it. All recipes that I use cilantro for (Salsa, Pico de Galo, Guacamole, etc...) call for lime/lemon anyways.

Another way to preserve it for the whole year or more is chop it up with a little water to what consistency you want. Pour it out on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spread it out evenly and put it in the freezer. It does not take long to freeze. Once frozen, break it up into chunks and place in ziploc bag. Keep it in the freezer. It does not stick together.

When I put fresh cilantro in the crisper, I take it out of the bag, and wrap it in paper towels (because I don't have any growing!) The paper absorbs that excess moisture, and lets me keep it for at least a week.

We usually let a few plants go to seed and save those for use as coriander (and to reseed next year). They store very well once dry, and I just keep some in a little pepper mill for use as a spice.

Great idea with the mill! And yes I also let some go to seed every year some are dried and saved and some fall to the ground, to the point now that I don't even have to replant it!

I was amazed that the cilantro made it thru the freeze this Feb. Thanks for sharing the great ideas for preserving. I think I will do a version of the cilantro pesto but use butter instead of oil and put it in mini silicon molds and then freeze. This way I should have some delicious cilantro infused butter to put on freshly grilled steak or chicken breasts.

For me, appreciating the whole plant is important: I harvest leaves, and when they bolt, I harvest seeds! The seeds are a great ingredient in sauces (curry) and are very healthy. Great video.

Hi Scott, fresh cilantro lasts me for a week if the leafy stems are arranged like flowers 💐 standing up in a small jar with a few inches of water. I do wash, then dry it in a salad spinner beforehand so it's ready to use. I keep the jar on my counter or on a shelf in the fridge. Every day or so, I trim the stem ends about 1/4" and change the water. This works with parsley and dill as well. Love your idea of preparing it like pesto to add to nearly any recipe. Thanks Scott, always appreciate your videos.

Great ideas, Scott. I too, love and grow cilantro. My stepdaughter taught me to store washed and dried cilantro in the fridge upright in a small jar partially filled with water (like a bouquet of flowers) to allow the stems to draw moisture. If I need to store it for a few more days, I trim the ends of the stems and change the water. I've been able to keep fresh cilantro for over a week. I also use this method for dill and parsley. BTW: if you add a little wine vinegar and green onion to your cilantro in oil, you will have a lovely chimmichuri sauce, which is delicious on everything! Especially chicken, fish and beef!

This was a fantastic video. The only add I have is that refrigerators are designed to keep the box humid, so I wouldn't recommend refrigerator storage ever for cilantro. 100% freezer because they actually have a dehumidifier in them to prevent iceing build up. That said. I'm going to experiment with a low temp on my dehydrator and get as much moisture out without cooking and freeze after. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the video! I love cilantro juice, so freezing it is a good option I did not consider. I will try it. Now, about the seeds...It's not that they will produce a different plant. The seed will produce more cilantro, correct? Cilantro is the Spanish word for coriander but in the video, it appears to indicate that they will produce a different plant.
