You can run a credit card through ink or acrylic to make straight paint lines that are thin. I use this mostly when I’m painting, but I’m sure it can work in black and white ink work.

You actually don't even need to cut into a Micron tip to get varying lineweights. You can achieve that effect simply by how you angle the tip and how much pressure you put down through the stroke. It takes a little practise but it's doable and you don't risk ruining a Micron pen trying to custom cut the nib. I discovered that little drawing wrinkle myself a few years ago. I'd suggest using the 08 to start with but you can manage it with the 05 as well.
@ScottSerkland
@ScottSerkland 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I agree that microns have some flexibility by changing the rotation and the pressure, but honestly once you seen what some of these artist can do with the "broken" micron you would be amazed, you just can't get that range in line weight with pressure and rotation alone.

Great stuff. I liked the note paper to make lines for robots or bar codes. I liked the ruler bridge too. And I loved the splatter with air. That had me laughing and my husband asked what was going on. Hee hee. This will be my first time doing inktober. I hate inking but I will keep it simple and just use normal pens and make simple (I hope. My simple stuff tends to become complex) drawings of my characters.

I've tried the breaking felt pen trick and it's pretty tricky. Maybe I'm just too scared of ruining the pen (even if it's a cheap knock-off brand for practice) and don't press hard enough? I have a feeling I'm gonna love it once I can get it to work though because imo the normal brush tips aren't the right softness/stiffness or taper shape for what I like! I usually settle for "I'll just use the smallest size possible and go over it a million times to get lineweight variation" even though know that increases the risk of making messy lines and mistakes. It's another thing I need to work on lol. I hope you touch on this topic again some day because this is the only place on the internet I've found even suggesting this idea and I think it has a mountain of potential!

Awesome! I liked the micron tip! I'm just curious to know if it make the micron dead/unusable faster than the normal use? I mean at a monment does it make the stuff actually break, split, and unusable even if you still have ink on it. I would love a tool like that that cou can refill... Any suggestion?
@ScottSerkland
@ScottSerkland 5 жыл бұрын
So I got this tip from a friend of mine and he is a little better at breaking the Microns than I am I would like to do a video filming him doing it. The pen would still have the same amount of ink so it shouldn't go dead any sooner, but I suppose tip might not last as long since the structural integrity has been compromised. I would love a tool like that -that is refillable , but I'm not sure if they make them or where to find them. I also wonder why someone don't just make a pen that acts like the broken microns, because its not that simple to brake them yourself.

So, if I was to do a coloured comic style drawing, would the order go like, pencilling, inking then colour, or pencilling colouring then inking?
@ScottSerkland
@ScottSerkland 3 жыл бұрын
Typically the process is pencil, then ink then color, but it is possible to do ink after color for instance if you are doing more of a fully painted look in an opaque medium with solid outlines or I have also seen people pencil then do water color washes and ink over them.
