Getting a clean and consistent release is critical for throwing a golf disc. You want a grip that you can replicate on every throw to ensure maximum power and control. Here is how you can have the correct sidearm grip in Disc Golf.

I never approached the thumb aspect of the grip in that way before and am stoked to try it tomorrow!

I prefer the “middle ground” power grip (middle finger extended/pointer finger tucked). With this grip, I personally find it the easiest way to get consistent power, accuracy, as well as touch. I can consistently throw 420ft this way, and my farthest measured throw on flat ground is 460ft. I’m honestly surprised to see that most players prefer both fingers extended. I guess my hands are just different from most people’s.

OK, I'm gonna call you for a chat about this one, Scott. I've got some ideas I want to bounce off you about the forehand grip. You were so kind with your time when we last spoke. Cheers, from NZ.

I just had a frickin revelation this week on sidearm grip. I thought my arm angle was the problem but I was holding the disc too flat in my hand. You can’t snap your wrist the direction of your arm bones. Have to sort of balance the disc up out of flat but still firm and tight and I have been able to dial in approach shots with just that change. Came here to confirm that stacking my pointer underneath my middle was stokely approved. It is. My middle finger is very long in proportion so it feels more comfortable to have it over top

I use the 2 finger grip with the index finger pressing against the rim and the middle finger stacked behind it. This is the first forehand grip video that I've seen that mentions this grip. Works best for me.

I've noticed from good sidearm throwers that the disc sits on the top side of their hand so the disc and the back of the hand form a steep almost 90 degree angle rather than the palm facing the sky so the hand and disc form one flat plane.

I find that the "fan grip" you don't advise helps me generate plenty of spin with touch shots, but when I switch to one of the other three more advisable grips I wobble my touch forehands. I have no trouble driving though. I use the two finger stacked grip you have there for most of your video. Any tips outside of practice more?

I have SMALL hands for a man. Pointer finger is 2 1/2" from knuckle to tip. What works for me is one finger grip and consistently average 300ft Destroyer shots. Is that a good distance? I would really like more but have plateaued.

I used the one finger grip with pretty good accuracy and about 300 ft distance for a long time. I switched to 2 fingers inside the rim one year ago and have increased distance to 400 ft. Accuracy is still not as good as before but for putter fh shots I go back to my old grip. The problem with one finger inside the rim as I see it is that the grip is too weak and cause early release of the disc. With 2 fingers you might have the opposite problem especially if you are overturning your wrist
@rickrey9142

@@eskelinensami that much of an increase yea? I have tried the two finger stack grip it just doesn't feel like i spin it as fast as using 1 finger. did it take long to get used to it ? I battle with it on field work usually going back to 1 finger
@eskelinensami
@eskelinensami 3 жыл бұрын
@@rickrey9142 well maybe not 100 ft but I would say 60 ft extra distance. It took a long time to get used to it and my accuracy is still worse than before. For spin the wrist action and disc not slipping out is important. It might be other factors that limit in your case, maybe 1 finger is not the problem. Silver Lätt has only his middle finger pushing the rim and he has one the longest fh in the world

I injured my middle finger throwing so many sidearms practicing, that i strained a joint or ligament at the base of my middle finger :/ it hurt, had to crush a backhand over water on 18 and realllly hurt it. It's been a month and a half of throwing with 4 fingers backhand, and 1 finger(pointer) on forehand :( I couldn't even grip my disc with two fingers forehand without it being in pain let alone throwing with it. Trying to baby it and it's still sore.

are you saying 2 finger is better than 1 finger only grip not the 2 finger on disc but still one finger example no i use just 1 long finger and then everything else is the same and i tend to throw about 320-340 with it..?

I learned sidearm using the one-finger grip. What recommendations would you make to discard this bad habit and learn to throw correctly (at least with respect to grip)? is there a particular disc type (e.g., midrange, putter, understable) that would assist this transition?

If you like one finger grip dont change it. Andrew marwede is one of the best forehands in the world and he uses one finger

I think the stacked grip with the index finger pressed against the rim is very similar in feel to the one finger grip. You might want to give that a try.

I think which grip to use is really individual dependent. Guys with long thin fingers are going to feel comfortable using a grip that guys with short fat fingers won't even be able to duplicate and probably vice versa.

Doesn't Nate Sexton have a forehand grip with his fingertips on the inside of the rim? Kind of like you show at 2:10, only not as scrunched up. How does he make that work?
@thomashenry679
@thomashenry679 4 жыл бұрын
I use the Sexton grip for when I throw mid and putter forehand. Really it's just having the fingers curled into like a half moon and then just the pads on the inside of the rim. Personally it gives me more control and a touch less power than my driver grip.

If you have long skinny fingers the two finger grip is better. I 100 percent disagree with saying that you generate more power using two fingers however your two fingers are flat and not pushing against the rim of the disc just holding it. You aren't creating leverage you are just stablilizing your thumb. Now turn your index finger so it is pushing against rim and tell me you don't have a better grip on the disc.
