I bought a 2013 Altima from a rental car company with 30k miles on it in 2015. No major issues aside from typical items like oil, breaks, battery. It currently has 252K miles on it and it's going strong. Regular oil changes, freeway miles, and quality fuel seems to work.

Likewise, I had a 2007 3.5 SE I bought used in 2012 with around 40k miles, then traded that in 2013 for a new 2.5 SV. The 2007 only had around 75k miles when I traded it, but still I had zero problems with that car. My 2013 just passed 200k miles, and while it does have a check engine light on (cat, or maybe O2 sensor), it runs like it did when new, and other than a compressor control valve for the A/C compressor, it has needed nothing except oil, tires, brakes, and battery. Oh, I did have the CVT fluid changed around 85k, so will probably have that done again soon. While I agree Toyota has a better general record for build quality (not even close to the 10x Scotty wants us to believe though), I have also ridden in some older Camrys that felt like rattle traps. I also used to think Honda was up there with Toyota, but then I bought a 2016 Pilot... but that's another story.

@@thomasemick5037you guys haven’t replaced the transmission at all? I’m really worried about it. I love this car I bought 15’ SL at 5309 miles. It’s currently at 81,500. The car has been trouble free ever since. 5k mile oil changes and I did a cvt fluid drain and fill at the dealer at 60,000 miles. I don’t want to get rid of it but due to the transmission problems I’m quite skeptical. It’s gonna be hard to let go if that’s the case. If it was that alone I would agree but it isn't that alone is it. Did you watch the video? Trashed expensive PS pump, broken motor mounts, cheap plastic interior, etc. Cheap buy turns into a money pit. That's what I heard. I've also worked on cars for about 30 years and was a Mercedes mechanic in a Pontiac dealership for a while after I left Mack trucks so I have a wide variety of experience and not too long ago sold my '85 Dodge Shelby Turbo which I regretted soon after doing so when going to look for a suitable replacement. I guess I'll be driving my '85 Jeep CJ and '74 Plymouth Duster (highly modified) for a while longer. Maybe I will be able to find another Shelby close to what I sold mine for. In 32 years I've replaced the radio, computer chip, and turbo (all by choice, for better performance) and 3 batteries.

You understand some people never do transmission fluid changes and their cars are fine. My grandpa has a 2007 silverado still on original trans and fluid and its still going perfect. Nissans HAVE to have the cvts meticulously maintained or they just fail. Why would you defend a car that requires that much maintenance just to not fall apart?

Scotty lost me on this one. I have a 2013 Altima and it runs great with 194,000 miles on it, I bought it with 30,000. I take care of it and do its oil changes, trans flush, and maintenance religiously with excellent results. I did have to change some things that any car with this amount of miles would require like Motor mounts, struts, and bushings.

@Christian... I had same issues on altima I had years ago. The hesitation, or rough idle when stopped/slowing down (also occasionally stalling out completely) was corrected by changing cam shaft sensor. The issue where engine turns over, but won't crank (also had fuel smell while turning over) was corrected by changing crank shaft sensor. Both are relatively cheap parts to replace. You can get a name brand replacement for either of them for $65-75. Took me about 30 mins to replace each. Hope this helps

Mainly replaced the radiator, replaced the coils a couple times and fixed a couple minor things on it, it's been a pretty solid car. Catalytic finally went bad this year and it won't pass smog and it will cost more than what this car is worth to fix so I'm sad to see it go, but it's been a solid car. A/C still blows cold!

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima with over 233,000km (at the time of this writing) and these are the problems I’ve noticed on this vehicle. -water pump failed (replaces under warranty) -crankshaft and camshaft sensors went out and set a SES light on. -the valve cover seals will start leaking oil into the spark plug tubes at around 166,000km leading to misfires and ruined spark plugs/ignition coils. -the exhaust manifold/precast will disintegrate which sends abrasive materials in the engine causing oil burning. Mine is burning 1/2 quart every 2000km -motor mounts goes out on this vehicle. A clunking/vibrating noise upon acceleration. -the passenger, front seat floorboard will corrode leading to a hole which is a safety hazard. -headlights will yellow out. Just needs any headlight restoration. -the blower resistor motor goes out and Nissan made it difficult to put a screwdriver in unless you break the plastic in the way. -SES P0442 and P1456. Couldn’t find the source of the leak despite replacing gas cap and “smoking” the system.

Bought it in 2010 with 99,000 miles and totaled in 2016 by hitting a deer at 243,000 miles. It never let me down or with routine maintenance. The only repairs needed was the motor mounts (specifically the one next to the coolant reservoir), battery, and the notorious front catalytic converter issue before it would cause any major issues. RIP Altima.

I hear a lot of people complaining about Nissan Altima but they never had one , than the people that have it got nothing but Good things to say about it . I Have my Altima at 70.000 miles and never had to service it I only changed the oil that’s all . If I run into an Altima like this one for $500 I’m buying it F* what anyone says 😂 .

I own a 05 Altima. 183k miles. I religiously change the oil every 3-4 months (full synthetic)and it runs so quiet that sometimes I start it w/o realizing it's on and crank the starter😂🤦🏽‍♂️. Anyway solid motor and automatic transmission, however it's a RUST BUCKET!!! Floor boards completely rotting away as well as the rear passenger side door frame. It's a 15 year old car. Aside from that it's my daily driver and runs really well due to regular maintenance. Cheap quality parts in respects to clear coat flaking off as well as cracked dashboard down to my broken passenger side door handle😂. The gas tank door broke to. I figure I can get another two years out of her easy... I plan on buying another car at the end of next year while simultaneously running this one into the ground.👍🏽

Exactly why I sold my 05 Altima in 2015, 2016 after I realized the floorboards were rusting out. In defense I live in NJ and we had some really bad winters so the road salt killed my car. Sold to a college kid at 185k miles (I bought it new).

@@NJGhost34 I live in Massachusetts... Was quoted a price from $600-1000 to fix the boards but it isn't worth it. So long as it passes inspection I'll drive it untill it's no longer cost effective while paying off my new car... It's really to bad because at 183k miles the motor/transmission is solid and I'm hoping to get 230k however the rest of it's rusting away.😒

@@robmalcolm8042 I can't drive small sedans, the altima was a midsize and was affordable at the time of purchase. Renault did a shyt job with the design and follow through no doubt. I'm happy it still runs with no problems. Buying a 2015 Lexus ls250 next year while driving this into the ground so I can't complain.

My wife had had 3 Altima her 1st one being a 96 ,. When she was 18 & it ran with no problems until she traded it in for a 2013 Altima in 2015 that one run until she traded it in for a 2020 that she has now , mind you she's a driving home nurse so she's putting over 55,000+ miles a year on them and no problems at with any of them

I bought a used 2014 Nissan Teana Malaysia and I NEVER had any major problems other than Gas, Oil, Break, filters, and a ton of miles on it. I never even changed the CVT oil yet. I did changed the spark plugs and a PCV valve too and I did it myself from watching KZfaq videos. If you care the care it will serve you well, don’t care it and it will give up the ghost. My car runs like a charm and never left me on the roadside after 5 years. Edit: And the rims are tougher than the crap they are selling elsewhere and still looks new.

100% agreement. I have driven thousands of miles all over the central USA in 2017 to 2020 Altimas. I like the 2018 model best. They run just fine when correctly maintained. They are much better than the Chevy Malibus and Impalas that we used to have in our corporate motor pool.

Those aren't bad. Ofc they can have transmission issues, but they're still pretty decent. I really think a car will show its reliability when it gets 200K+. Like your average brands last around 150K-220K, your above average brands can go 300K+. I once bought a 05 Honda civic with 300K Miles. It drove like it had 60K. Unfortunately the car had too many DIY jobs and the timing belt happened to be one of them (installed incorrectly and it melted by rubbing against something). I've owned allot of cars, and when they hit that 200K+ Mileage I start getting anxiety and think "I don't know" when it comes to large distances to travel, but that Honda was one of the only cars that made me feel otherwise. I think having the tiny engine and basic engineering made me feel like there was little to go wrong. Plus again, the car drove like 60K. Granted, my most reliable cars were Nissans, 1998 Infiniti Q45 T and a 1997 Maxima, many years of trouble-free ownership, solid build, never had any issues. This was pre-Renault merger though so of-course they were reliable. By far my best exp with any car.

I did a transmission swap on a 2005 Altima now the transmission won't shift out of first gear. The speed sensor seems to be okay because the speedometer works. I've been told the TCM needs to be reprogrammed. Is that true and how much should that cost?
