SEVERAL years sticker build up, dreading task of removal. Always freezing cold winter at my sticker renewal time. Car’s way down in underground parking, no electrical outlet access. The Lord reminded me of my little portable hand-held steam cleaner I had forgotten about. Filled it with purified water, heated it up at home, unplugged, took it down to the car. Blasted that sucker with a bit of super hot steam, minimal scraping with utility knife, easily pulled old stickers off by hand, wiped it clean & dry, applied new sticker. NO Goo Gone/toxic messy chemicals, NO plate removal, NO hair dryer, NO agony. ALL glory goes to God, giver of all wisdom yay!!

EVEN FASTER: blow dry for a good 15-20 seconds on the BACK side of the plate, behind the sticker. You only need the adhesive from the first sticker that's touching the plate to come off and then they all will. Came off in one scrape with a putty knife.

Thank you so much! Heated the back side with hair blower for 30 seconds. Turned plate over and picked up the corner and it came off so easy!

Unscrewed my plate and brought it inside...was all prepared to attack it with hair dryer, putty knife, and Goo Gone..... Just a hair dryer on it for a few seconds did the job and the labels came right up. Used the putty knife to help it, but it didn't require much effort. Wasn't even any sticky residue. Wiped it off with a Clorox wipe and called it good. Sometimes it's that easy. lol And we're talking eight years of stickers.

Your method will certainly work, I was prepared to use heat myself. I tried straight isopropyl alcohol and it worked extremely well. I only had one sticker to remove. (I put mine in the wrong location so I fixed it when I renewed) Anyway, I would try alcohol before getting out scrapers and heat guns. Just saturate the area and let it sit a few seconds before slowly peeling. If that doesn't work then get the heaters.

Genius video. I just baked my license plate on the stove to take the adhesive off and it worked.

They can make self driving cars now...but we still have this sticker system from the 1950's.

THANK YOU!!! I've been tasked with updating the tag on my bf's car (I drive it daily) and I used to try and use a quarter taking off teeny tiny pieces at a time. This will be a life saver...and won't scrape any paint off the actual plate.

I have a pickup truck I bought new in 1972, the stack of stickers on the plate looks like the leaning tower of Pisa.

Easiest way is to just take a eagle butane lighter and hit it going over it a few times then take a flat head screwdriver and it'll come right off. No need for a heat gun at all. But if you have one and no butane lighter, then this will work just the same.

I tried your method on one side, OMG the sweat, ended up removing some of the paint. Took it and put it is hot soapy water, let it set and Viola the pile on the other side peeled off and the paint stayed on. Simple

Do not try this on California legacy plates! You will take the black paint with it!! I've done this for years on the white plates and had no trouble but,the paint on the Legacy plates is not very good! Just be real careful!👍

I have to remove the sticker from my husbands car because we accidentally placed the my car sticker on his car!! I'm getting too old LOL. Anyway after i remove the sticker do you know how to stick it back onto another car???

You could always just stick all the years all over the place like a scrapbook, you know, to remember the good times in 2015 that you were registered. 🤦‍♀️ I see this way too often and it drives me nuts!

Pro tip: for those that want to remove a license plate tag with minimal damage for "reason" 1: take off your license plate 2: use a lighter to heat the bottom of the license plate for 5 to 10 seconds. 3: use a razor blade too lightly Peal the corner of the tag. 4: slowly remove the tag while while keeping the bottom surface of the license player hot. Note if you burn your hand on the surface of the tag its too hot. ( I do not condone the act of stealing license plate tags for illegal use and this information is for novelty use only)

Only a man would think of taking the plate off in order to take the sticker off!
