One of the many things i enjoy about this channel is that he presents his trips for all to enjoy without whining about subs, likes, notification bells or nothing. Just enjoy the video and that's it. Does not even mention going to watch his other videos. You will if you want to and that's it. Love this channel. If you WANT to support him, you can look at the description to get what you need.

Fun video! If you slice the abalone very, very thinly, it’s easier to tenderize and even more delicious. It won’t be tough at all. Wild abalone runs $500-$550 dollars a kilogram (about 2lbs), and a small plate of abalone for dinner in a nice Resturant will run about $125.00 in California. 👍😎☀️🌊

Scotty, you can be 100% sure that your midden is really an archaeological site (cause it is). Go do a course in archaeology and heritage management if you get the chance. You have the right stuff to excell in that area, plus you have an interest in the environment. Many thanks for all your vids.

Hi Scotty, you did well with that abalone, a spoon makes an easier job of getting it out of the shell, next time use a rock or a small finger nail scrubbing brush to scrub the foot that attaches to rocks until all that light brown comes off. No need to cut off the outside edge but it needs to be scrubbed clean too. Then use a rock to tenderise it, up to you whether you slice it or leave it whole, it works both ways, now it's ready to eat. Coat it in flour, egg and breadcrumbs and fry it in butter, even better in garlic butter, then make hamburger with a toasted bread roll, lettuce, tomato, cheese and whatever sauce you like.

ripper vid mate! hot tip for abbs is cut them into thirds length ways so you have 3 mini steaks and it maintains its shape, you can then tenderise with ya water bottle instead of fiddling with the small cuts! ooroo

Abalone! the first time I had abalone fresh caught off the rocks, it was fried in butter, and I have never forgotten the incredible flavour. Food for the gods. Tastes nothing like the frozen variety you get in restaurants. That was a long time ago; around my area it has all been fished fished out for decades. I heard that commercial diving had put an end to rockpool foraging for abalone --so I'm stoked that you can still find them at the shoreline. And thanks for taking us on yet another great trip. Luckily I don't think you are ever going to run out of fascinating spots to visit.

The Channel Islands have maintained their abalone stock with aggressive legislation on the minimum size that can be taken, methods (foraging only, no diving or trawling) and a legally defined set of tides (4/month in season) when they can be taken. The fines are punitive and per abalone, and it is working to great effect.

Nice video mate I've been doing similar trip the 26th all the way from Marlo and I'm at Mallacoota atm. Talk about sunburn 😋 With the Abalone I just run the edges on a rock and strap the centre to get the sand out. Clean some of the black off. If you're at home a high pressure cleaner does any amazing job of cleaning them without loosing any meat.
