"Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee asked Chief Justice John Roberts to “take appropriate steps” so that Justice Samuel Alito would recuse himself from a tax case that the Court agreed to hear next term, as well as any cases involving laws that regulate the High Court.

I am shocked! And very disappointed. I have always believed that the Supreme Court Justices would review and rule on cases according to the law and with integrity. Now I see what they think of the laws AND the Constitution of this country. I am so disgusted and sadden for America and all of our children. I am 70 years old, I have a daughter, granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. I am so disgusted with those that wish to take democracy from the people of this country?

Why wouldn’t SCOTUS automatically be held to the same rules of ethics that lower courts are? They knew these rules prior to getting a seat on the Supreme Court. If a justice is not operating on the plan of being above reproach, then they’re not fit to judge anybody for any reason. You can’t bring the hammer down on ppl “that should have known better” when the judge doesn’t live a life like that.

I still remember years ago arguing my California Government professor down that this would happen back in 2010. That even the Supreme Court was not immune to the corruption in the form of special interest corporate money. She swore up and down that because the judges were appointed for life, there was no reason for them to be corrupt. Article III, Section 2, Clause 2 of the Constitution allows Congress to regulate Supreme Court Jurisdiction except in cases where States, Ambassadors, etc are parties, in which case SCOTUS has original jurisdiction. More importantly, this shows that Constitutionally, though not explicitly stated for purposes ethics oversight, Congressional regulation of SCOTUS is ABSOLUTELY within Congress's power and was intended as a check and balance. The Constitution was intended to provide EACH branch of government certain controls over the other two. SCOTUS can determine the Constitutionality of any act by the other two branches. POTUS appoints Justices and has veto power over Congress. Congress has the power to impeach POTUS and regulate SCOTUS. Alito is full of crap, gaslighting the world to empower his own corruption. Rather than expand the court, let's remove the bribe takers. Constitution does NOT say Justices serve for life. It says they serve "during good behavior" without mentioning a term limit. Taking bribes is NOT good behavior. They no longer qualify to serve.

Predictions: Chief Justice Roberts will not ask Alito to recuse himself. If he does, Alito will refuse, with the consent of the conservative majority on the Supreme Court. (He may be cheeky enough to point out, correctly in this case, that the only defined role of the Chief Justice, or mention of the role, in the Constitution is to preside over impeachment proceedings in the Senate; and that he therefore has no Constitutional power to enforce ethics standards or recusals on the other Justices.) Alito has no discernible ethical standards, and no shame.

I feel that if we have a 2 & 1/2 term limit (or 10 year maximum) for the President & a majority of Governors have term limits, we should have term limits for all members of the House (I say 10, 2 year terms), Senate (3, 6 year terms), & Judiciary (at most 20 years). I feel this is the only way to prevent complicity in our government by constantly changing it.

I'm not a lawyer I only have a 10th grade education but it's common sense. Disqualifying a candidate from office solely on the basis that the voters elected that candidate too many times is absurd and it doesn't do sht. Do you think that the people who elected Marjorie Taylor Greene are going to vote for a normal, rational, not insane, not grotesque, not monstrous human being when her term limits are up? But I do agree that voting should be easier and much more accessible to everyone and maybe some publicly-financing to allow more decent and honest candidates. Age limits is bullsht too.
