"More revelations about U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' ties to a right-wing club that connected him to the billionaires and power players that he needed.
Raw Story covered the bombshell report by ProPublica that the controversial jurist was facing scrutiny after being caught taking gifts and lavish vacations from right-wing billionaire Harlan Crow. But a new report by the New York Times revealed Thomas was appointed as a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, adding that he "entered a world whose defining ethos of meritocratic success.""

Yep, it's the policy of the republican party. "If it doesn't help me then it shouldn't be a thing". These people are so selfish and self-centered it's beyond ridiculous. Thomas gets millions in bribes and gifts from a billionaire but it's unamerican for students to get some debt relief. And people still vote for them because they have been brainwashed into believing all of the lies that the GOP spews out. They are blind to the hypocrisy. Clarence Thomas should be disbarred and kicked out of the Supreme Court. it's blatantly obvious he is corrupt and being paid for making his decisions. And the fact that he hasn't been removed shows how corrupt this whole system probably is. Who else believes that other supreme court justices are paid off as well? I certainly do. Our entire system of government across the US needs to be trashed and rebuilt.

I always thought that Justice Roberts was remaining silent because he knows far more than we do about the inappropriate activity of virtually every Justice and the magnitude of their corruption. What shameful and dishonorable conduct. All who received undisclosed gifts and favors should be forced to resign, including Roberts who did not report his wife's related income.

A college buddy of mine became a judge. After he made that decision, you couldn't even pay for his meal at McDonald's or buy him a beer. He said "from now on I can't even permit the appearance of taking anything from anybody". Would be nice if all judges behaved that way...

There is a written "Code of Ethics" for every single court in The United States of America, which they are compelled to follow under penalty of law. Except for the Supreme Court, and only the Supreme Court, where it matters the most. They refuse to create or abide by one. The *_only_* Constitutional solution to this flagrant spit in the face to Justice within the Judicial branch, would be the Legislative branch COMPELLING them to do it, through .. LEGISLATION.

How can so many justices be so completely unprincipled? How did they advance through the judicial hierarchy with no basic grasp of right and wrong?

Did you guys know that FINLAND has no,nada,zippo,zilch,njet,nej,nay political dimension to our court system?Even our president who appoints some judges,must give up his or her political affiliation when entering the office.But because judges are not political ,this is just meaningless.Our system is so transparent that even a tiny wiff of money having influence in you case,can seriously damage your defence.I think one of FINLAND s number ones is most uncorrupted country in the world as officially there is none.Even big corporations who have tried that,have been caught and sentenced.Your Supreme Court reminds me of judge mafia above the law.This black enema of the people sure looks like elite s sonny boy doing their bidding.He would sit in a lonely prison cell in FINLAND.

in Australia High court judges are hired(by sorting through a shortlist of 5 recommendations) by other legal representation from other states , it goes through a senate committee, represented by both parties and a few independents its a stamp , like they ask if taxation have questions ,they dont or the nominee would not be there , they must retire at 70 , they recuse when appropriate , i.e. the gay married judge recused himself ,as a conflict of interest ,could not appear to be there , it obviously was he had been in a same sex relationship ,civil union, for 45 years Justice Michael Kirby ,and partner ,he recused himself , when claiming uncorrupted , you have to be above politics ,corporations ,practice law , defend whomever , we also have Royal Commissions to investigate political decisions ,and either recommend to High Court or if crime committed go through lower courts get jailed or fined ,career gone , to get to High Court , Must go through Supreme , then Federal courts with grounds to appeal ,mostly doesnt happen ,only constitutional things , like mining companies having to give up land rights , as Native Title holders did not ever succeed land ,it was stolen from them , Australia was considered 'Terra Nullius" = latin for no-one lived here , aboriginals were flora & fauna until 1969. The USA system is massively flawed by corporate influence , they answer to themselves only , 45th president made corruption a human trait , made a deal with evangelicals ,now American politicians dont even try to appear ,uncorrupted , its accepted , all within 7 years .USA is run by big donors ,not voters ,and white ,religious right . I hate to see TYT fighting ,divide an conquer they have not recognised ,diplomacy is politicised .If you want something done by 45 ,like oil pipes through Indian reservations tell 45 hes handsome , Putin , Xi ,& Kim Ill know this ,flattery gets you everything ,to bring him back is world disaster ,he has americans fighting americans , dangerous child never told No ,

come on, lets be real - These are not 'gifts' but bribes
@kenofken9458

Of course they are. Let's be clear about one thing too, especially with Thomas: These are not one-off gifts where he maybe had one extravagant dinner or outing now and then. His patron/owner has lavished so many of these "gifts" over the years that Thomas effectively lives like someone with a net worth and income two or three decimal places above his legitimate earnings. That is HUGE effing corruption.
@Segalmed

But, but, but SCOTUS decided that it's only bribes, if there is a WRITTEN quid-pro-quo, preferably with the word 'bribe' explicit in the document.

@@Segalmed Nobody else at any level of the judicial system of government would ever get away with such bullshit. Basically what's going to happen if this keeps up is that a majority of the population and states are going to simply decide that there is no moral obligation to follow the legal pronouncements of an obviously corrupt Supreme Court.
