Not sure of the implications, but I’ll give it my best guess. The one word answers either show scp 4217 to be of low intelligence or a minimal grasp on our language. Memos recovered from the nazi branch that created it said that most of the damage to it was not caused by the crash. Further more the notes mention interfacing the specimen with modern electrical systems. Consider all this with its reaction to and knowledge of scp 2399, it’s probably safe to say it’s origin comes from space. The possibility that scp 4217-a’s original form wasn’t a squid exists. However, due to documents stating its’ mostly carbon based diet, it just as much could have been a squid floating through space. (Addendum A: Upon further review it was more likely its highly regenerative properties allowed it to adapt to its environment as needed.) Another fact we know is that before arriving to earth, scp 2399 had engaged it. Given scp 2399’s resistance to modern weaponry, it is unlikely that scp 4217-a was the cause of scp 2399’s failure. Additionally, scp 2399 was first seen in 1665, whereas scp 4217-a clearly arrived on earth around the time of WWI or WWII. Scp 4217’s reaction to scp 2399 gives indication that scp 2399 was responsible for injuries that may have forced its crash landing into earth. Upon crashing to earth Germany discovered it and began conducting their research upon it. Part of the research was developing a super solider from compound 17, which was a failure but still was thought to be usable. Possibly a jump on my part, but that screams zombies given the circumstances. (Addendum B: after reviewing the core document I noted something I missed before. The ship used shells which contained gas that causes a rapid onset of mutations to those it affects. It’s possible the scientists were trying to harness the scps regenerative properties to create self repairing soldiers, but were unable to control it.) German scientists were not the ones responsible for scp 4217’s modern appearance as they used/grafted/adapted scp 4217-a’s form to serve as an improved ship engine. I would also not assume they were responsible for its psionic ability, however it still could be the anomalous nature of the ship. (Addendum C: given the ship is noted as scp 4217-b, it likely has anomalous properties. Most likely the symbols are a cognitohazard that cause confusion.) It’s hard to guess the creatures state of mind prior to the experimentation. given its later understanding of the world it shows, it at least can connect ideas and communicate. It’s hard to know if the experimentation/ war damaged its mind. Given its appearance in 1940, according to the document, was seemingly normal. The only thing noted by its crew was that the engine required special fuel, had never been seen, and emitted a sound similar to a heart beat. the ships transformation into modern day scp 4217 must have occurred between when it was sunk in 1941 and 1993 when it emerged once more. Scp 4217 has been noted for its regenerative properties. As such it was likely repairing its damaged inorganic form with the only thing it could produce, organic matter. Thus when it resurfaced in 1993 flesh and organs replaced the mechanisms that had been destroyed in the war. Prior to this we are given no indication that scp 4217 had any offensive capability on its own. It’s control over ships weapon could be a natural adaptation to conflict. Given ships were responsible for its destruction, both from the stars and water, it likely experienced either a panic attack or some form of ptsd as it remembered scp 2399. This in turn causing a more volatile reaction. The reaction seems more out of panic, as the document indicated that it fired in every direction. To be precise, I believe scp 4217 was once a space faring creature. In all likelihood it was a intelligent and peaceful once. Upon entering our solar system it was attacked and severely wounded by two ships. First was scp 2399. After being attacked it crashed on earth were German scientists mutilated its form and transformed into a warship’s engine. Second were warships in 1940. Where it was destroyed and allowed to lick its wounds. Recovering from severe damage a second time within the century. In 1993 it was attacked again. after being reminded of its past trauma, it lashed out in fear. This in turn cause a fearful foundation to react violently. Perhaps there’s a lesson to be found about fearing what you don’t understand, victims of war, or cruelty of reality. Either way, the story of scp 4217 seems to be a tragedy. It’s aggressive state almost comes off like PTSD, like the soldiers and sailors memories of the war and battles briefly emerging and them attacking every ship like it’s still a war. Makes me wonder what would happen if you brought other German ships from the time near it during those hostile states, would it recognize them as its old allies?
