You did a pretty good job. However it's "try to remember" not "try and remember", and every time that phrase was read, it brought me out of my immersion. The Foundation would know how to write properly.
@Idran
@Idran Жыл бұрын
@@thebigdawgj nah, both are acceptable "try and" is more colloquial, but it's idiomatic english that's been attested literally as long as "try to", both going back to the 1600s; by some etymologists, it's possible that "try and" might even predate "try to" (keep in mind that the insistence on the importance of infinitives in english is, like prepositions only at the end of sentences, in large part a fiction constructed by grammarians in the 19th century who thought a more latin-inspired structure sounded more formal and proper, that in itself a hang-around from when french was the court language and originally introduced itself into english, relegating many germanic words and structures to a "common"/"low class" connotation as a result) famously, the lord of philology himself, JRR Tolkein, had his editor 'correct' "try and" to "try to" in Lord of the Rings, and he changed it right back and refused to let it be changed again

Please don't......I mean that sincerely. Either don't do it, or figure out how to do it well. This story, while conceptually viable was terribly executed. Mindlessly repetitious, completely pointless, and just completely underwhelming. I kept waiting for literally anything to happen, to give me a sense of urgency, or display purpose. @@derpstick5467 ehhhhh..... other than the completely noncanon temporal manipulation powers given to 2000 its okay. But it being treated like 610 would have been better with the road trip bit being an accompanying tale. That's what scary about 610 and the predatory street art, the foundation does their best but they're still out there. Thankfully, they're just a story online...... right? Another scare factors of SCPs is the questions left unanswered or the implications of said SCP.
@grayfiresoul
@grayfiresoul Жыл бұрын
@@dickc.normous6369 I agree that 7004 was alright - the cognito hazard element was fantastic. Generally, I don't like Marvel-level world enders, but this was more humble and original, despite it's horrific, mass-scale nature. It's hard to tell if the author merely misrepresented SCP-2000, knowing that that's not how it was written but needed creative stretching room, or wasn't fully knowledgable about its details in the first place. They either took big liberties or didn't read up. Either way, that bugged me, and nearly sabotaged the conclusion.

The funny thing is that this protocol could be the predator itself. Your enemy will never think that it births and chooses you as its failsave. The failsave will ensure that the foundation does not exist, indefinitely.

Many franchises have moments where it is suddenly revealed that the events prior didn't matter because it was "all just a dream". Few have moments where the events prior didn't matter because it was NOT a dream. My theory the foundation would be re-created solely from the reader's memories in a 3rd reality. The reader will find themselves in a 2nd reality, one where the foundation never existed, one where hopefully they can learn some clue to defeating the perfect predator. Then their memories will be used to create a 3rd reality, one that is hopefully similar to the 1st except that now the foundation has a warning; a key bit of info that will hopefully be enough to save it.

One thing that I think people don't notice about this version is that the perfect predator and the perfect hider are left alone in the same dead reality, and the perfect hider dies to continue the sanctity of the Foundation in a new reality. There is a version of the Department of One that continues on in the new reality, but they leave the other one behind for the perfect predator to eventually find. It doesn't really matter if they 'wake up', as long as they complete the protocol.

I think, in this case, it’s not even about “the few/one” vs “the many”. It’s the idea that D01, the reader, the Designated Survivor, cannot and will not continue to exist if this task is not carried out, because for the SCP Foundation to resort to the complete and utter annihilation of themselves and all reality, it means that there is NO surviving. For anything. It is, realistically, both the most selfless and selfish act to commit, because in opening this file D01 has destroyed not just the few, or the many, or even the entire Foundation. They have destroyed EVERYTHING. All of reality. They alone survive this contingency, and the price for their continued existence is to be chased, hunted and preyed upon for an indeterminate amount of time until they can rest, if ever that time comes. The rest of reality being born from the ashes of D01’s torment is more like a convenient side effect of something D01 would have to do anyway. It’s not really like they have a choice between “Open the file” and “Complete destruction” It’s not so much a case of “you suffer for us, we thank you” it’s more like “you have to suffer, and if you make it, it was the only chance you had”.

@@jayvander5853 Nah gonna have to disagree with this, the needs of the many do outweigh the needs of the few, its collectivist logic which usually I don't agree with but it does make sense in most given contexts

In the case of the Department of One, you can't know what to do without knowing why you must do it. Neither cannot exist without the Other, just as One cannot exist without Zero.

This.. This is an scp I like. The moment I saw that calming blue instead of the banale Red I felt it was special. So excellently written, so masterfully performed, and just... So... Menacing. Leaving so much potential for story too. Is it the Red King and His coming horsemen? The Goddess of Flesh and Her rising cult? Is it the Reptile, or the Masque ? Or perhaps something new, or something completely uncommented on from the depths of the SCP files? Just... Marvelous

What would be a fun idea to do is that when at the start is says "A button only you can see will appear for you to click on to proceed." Then a button with a annotation linking to a second video comes on screen to take you to the scp.

This makes me think that 6511 is how the Antimemetics division keeps staving off universal destruction. And when the thousands of Depts of 1 finally find a way to beat back the parasitic meme, we’re just going to end up with a thousand Antimemetics Divisions dominoing back into existence. Alternatively, the Daevites 6511’d themselves millennia ago, and their book’s author is the equivalent to their Dept of 1.
