This is nothing alike to the classic board game and I'm a Scrabble aficionado. However, I find this is a very original way of adapting it to a game show. I'm sorry that I haven't lived at the time this show existed. I agree with those who want it back in our days. Furthermore I want to play, It's very entertaining!

okayyy, how the hell did Steve NOT get his 2nd clue in the 2nd sprint round from the CLUE alone? (that one was pretty easy, (especially since I have to assume that he was paying attention to and remembering the unchosen letters that were appearing in the little monitor.) although I have seen episodes with words whose clues made them complete and total giveaways. (one of them was a front game word with 5 letters. they were building on the letter O, the clue: A real deal maker." the answer: Monty.

@xcinder3609 ай бұрын
They weren't very strict with that particular buzzer. In fact, they eventually got rid of it in later episodes (with Chuck instead asking the contestants to either use the other letter or take two more tiles).

I may be a huge fan of this game show but what does the double buzz in the crossword round mean?
@xcinder3608 жыл бұрын
Back then you had a limited amount of time to give an answer. Once that time expired, you got that double buzz and could no longer answer, forcing you to either use the other letter or take two more tiles. Eventually they did away with that buzz.

Seeing this sort of debunks a misconception for me... I'd always assumed that the change to 5-time champions winning a grand total of $20,000 (as opposed to $28,000) came at the same time as the change to both players in the Sprint playing the same three words. Now I'm a bit curious as to when the payouts were altered... ?

@slapshot685 жыл бұрын
why didn't the 1st guy play bonus sprint where u need to get 2 words in 10 secs?
@sternkeefer4 жыл бұрын
@@slapshot68 This is the original "straddle" format of the show that didn't have that round. The major differences: champion never played crossword again (only sprint), and crossword games never ran out of time, they would just move on to the next show. In this version, they have 2 sets of words, but later they played the same words (champion went in isolation). The version with 4 players (including champ playing crossword again and bonus sprint at the end) didn't start until a tournament a year or two later from this show.

At some point in March 1985, they started having both players play the same three words in the Sprint. There was a two week tournament of champions in February 1985 also, which started either February 4th or Feb 11th(other NBC game shows of the time Super Password and $ale of the Century also had tournaments that month)
@zachhoran11 жыл бұрын
Jeff was in that February 1985 TofC, so this episode predates that TofC. Looking at January or early February 1985 here. SUper Password's TofC started on 2/4/85.

@ClassicTVMan1981X5 жыл бұрын
If this episode has the spelling rule -- that is, the three words in each round the players try to guess must be spelled out -- then this would date from the spring of 1985. If so, Michael would have had to spell out "B-R-U-I-S-E-S" and then say the word.
