Please check out: "SOLO OVERNIGHTER IN A DEBRIS SHELTER" - • Solo Bushcraft Camping...
Doing bushcraft in the woods... A nice way to spend some time outdoors, carving up the COOLEST Campfire Pot Hanger I have ever made.
Using a bit and brace, i drilled out a hole in a green tree branch and sharpened the other end so that i could hammer it into the ground, next to my fire pit. I use another piece, from the same downed green tree, to make my cross member out of. Shaved one down to fit inside the hole of the other piece, and carved out a square notch for the Zebra Pot bale. This keep the pot from being able to accidentally slide off and spill.
So... only thing left to do...is cook up a nice meal over my new campfire cooking setup.
Thank you all for watching, i hope you enjoy this one.

*FAQS - Q.) Why did you kill a living tree? A.) The tree had been landed on by an uprooted ash tree last week at some point. Q.) Don't you know how to sharpen your drill bit??? A.) I didn't know prior to heading out that it was dull. I will look to sharpen it before next use.*

Just a follow up to my remark about a chisel. Often I hear about learning how to make cordage, which is a great skill, but with joinery like you are exploring, I can see how a backpacker or in an emergency a prepper could conserve his cordage. A chisel can do amazing things and a light weight option for a drill, there is hardly a limit to what you can do. Once with nothing more than a chisel and my silky saw, I put together two 5 inch logs. No nails or pegs it took my scouts 3 days to pull it apart. It was so tight it became a sword in the stone game. A chisel don't weight anymore than a good knife and combined with my drill set up, no more than a small machete. Just a thought.

Daryl Gud Absolutely agree on the chisel! I’ve recently started playing with mortise and tenon joints held with wedges or pegs. I think they look amazing, which is a nice plus. All you need is a saw and a chisel or I guess just a pocket knife, but idk if I’d want to spend that much time on it. Lol 😁

Apart from a lathe, humanity must have invented a hand tool to create perfectly round dowels. We can bore perfectly round holes but the inverse is not so perfect. Love the video and you did a damn good job rounding that end.. A lot of bush woodcraft videos on youtube are pretty basic. We need more mid to advanced bushcrafting, more tool making etc. Hehe I think I just need some ideas.

Don't give up on the dovetail system. Start with sawing the angled notch in the post: Once you have the two sawed angles, then use your knife and a baton to split out the scrap in the notch. Then make your crossbar to fit the notch. The crossbar can be trimmed to be a triangle, round, or oblong. Maybe even square. The strength is in the notch and almost any shape will wedge in there.
