Homeschool Curriculum can be overwhelming. With 6 kids in the house, I get it. Through the years, I have always brought my family back to a self teaching worktext book curriculum. Not because I don't want to teach my kids, but because I need an open and go curriculum. These open and go curriculums saves me the time and energy from planning and prepping out my day each day.
These Curriculums can be found here:
Lifepac: www.aop.com
CLE: www.clp.org
A.C.E.: www.aceministries.com
I find the best place to look in depth is at the www.christianbook.com
Practical, Economical and, Creative Solutions for Everyday Life
I am a little flair of fun and crazy with 6 kids. We homeschool and try to keep ourselves in budget for life. I am constantly asked how I do it, so here it is. Here is a window into our life, I hope that it either makes you smile or helps you out.

When we pulled my grandson out of public school at the end of 7th grade, he A.C.E. diagnostic tested 3rd-grade-level Math and 5th-grade-level English. We used the A.C.E. workbook "PACE" curriculum to bring him all the way up to 7th grade level by the end of 8th grade. He absolutely loved the workbook concept and the accountability. Although I check his work and review with him the ones he misses, the curriculum is set up for the student to self-check their work, mark the ones they miss, and take a second try at getting them right. It is truly a "master the criteria" format. The workbooks have Check-Up pages to review what they learn 3 or 4 times throughout the book, and then a Self-Test af the end. If he does well on the Self-Test, then I administer the Test, which is his final (and only) grade for the book. If not, then we go back and review what he has trouble with before we take the final Test. My straight-F public school kid has turned into a straight-A home school test. Thank you, A.C.E.!!!!!

Thank you sharing your opinion on these different curriculums. I have 4 children, two of which I teach and my almost 5 year old I will be teaching this year. We normally use Rod and Staff or Abkea. But what I need is simplicity, color, fun, engaging work that will grab their attention. I have been looking in CLE and ACE for a while but have not committed to either yet. Finances have been an issue as well. God will provide! Again, thank you and I look forward to more of your videos!

Good thorough review! I have used them all at one point or another and we've decided to go back to PACES. I personally like the simplicity of planning and my kids mastering one concept at a time. I am hoping this will work well for my dyslexic child who was always so confused with CLE. I think it was just too much at once for her. As we plan our new year and get things in gear, I was very pleased with how easy it was to take the diagnostic test and get them started in the right books. Easiest one I've ever done. Thanks for the info!! 😃

I love this video. You seem a lot like me and I can relate with your explanations. Also, love the cat. I have one like that. Great video. I am subscribing to your pages. Love the way you explain things and really appreciate your help. Thanks! I bought the Lifepac books and have a 3rd grader and 9th grader. Hopefully it will go okay for me, since you don't seem to like them much.Since my oldest is in 9th, I have to keep transcripts for her, so I have to be very detailed on everything. It is a little scary, but I am going to be working hard! :(

Yes!! For those days that are busy, or you're tired, or everyone is burnt out (one of those is every day for me), low maintenance curriculum is a must! I can sit by them and tutor through things but not prepare a lesson. The pictures are distracting for mine they won't focus on another part of the page. I use computer based math now for mine, free, with khan academy, used to do workbooks but for some reason they look forward to khan. Then I give them drills on paper too, to race each other since my younger hs'er is way ahead in math. Instead of grading I would always check work and send them back to redo.

My kids hated lifepacs, SOS, and CLE. But, I am trying to find something easy this year. I've considered ACE but have been so afraid because of our past with booklet style learning. I just don't see much out there that is easy for me. We did try DVD's (BJU and Abeka which most hated) but then you have to sit with them to make sure they are doing it and that takes too much time and you end up feeling like a drill sergeant. The problem is it is so hard to find something because I have some kids that just really struggle (especially with reading and get easily overwhelmed by seeing a lot of pages) and then those who are college prep quick learning kids. Is ACE enough different from CLE and lifepacs to work? I'm just not sure.... ugh....Spending a bunch of money and it not working is SO frustrating..... You know what I mean? In any case, you are so awesome to watch, Trish. Your videos make me feel like I have someone who actually understands the frustrations I am having and is trying to figure it out too. My homeschooling friends don't talk curriculum because they just love their curriculum and have used it for years..... yeah, not a lot of understanding going on there. Thank you so much for the videos!

I’ve used ACE 4 years and it seems this year he’s burning out from it. So I am going to try CLE next year. I tested him on the level for CLE and he tested to be going into level 4 where we’ve been doing 4th level ACE. We won’t get finished this year in ACE either.

I know that you went away from ACE, could you explain why a little more? I combed threw videos and couldn't really figure out why. I HS my 2 daughters and have a extremely special needs child that I spend a lot of time driving back and forth to specialist. I was considering switching to ACE this year, so days we spend at John Hopkins they can bring it with them. I use CLE for LA, reading a math and have enjoyed it, but at their age 6 and 8 I still have to teach part of the lesson. We got behind this year, bc I would try to have them finish the review first and then I would come back and teach, but it mostly ended up us doing 1/2 lessons on those days. Do you think, ACE would work well? Are there certain subjects you didn't like as much? I want to finish CLE LTR with my littlest before moving on bc I don't want to change things until she is reading well. Any other suggestions? Thank you so much for your videos! I watch and sometimes re watch them for inspiration or encouragement.

Great video...except now I've got more research to do! lol This is my first time homeschooling. My son will be starting 1st grade. I didn't even know CLE is considered "low maintenence." lol When I started looking into choices, my husband seemed very "interested" in Saxon but I wasn't. When looking at reviews, I read that CLE is sometimes compared to Saxon (spiral concept) but less work perhaps. (Of course all of this is new to me.) I decided to use My Father's World curriculum, but use CLE for Math. I ordered My Father's World (it comes tomorrow!). But I haven't ordered CLE yet. Now to go dig deeper into ACE. lol Do you know of any good videos or blog posts comparing the benefits of the mastery approach vs the spiral? Thanks.

Marlene Lund I know this is an old post but I thought I’d comment for anyone with the same question. Teaching Textbooks is great for ease of use but it is a spiral format also. It teaches a little something new every day and reviews old lessons also. My kids had the same issue with the mental stress of 25-30 questions all on different things. Especially my daughter who has severe math learning disability. Every math curriculum is challenging for her but she prefers ACE to TT for that reason. I think if there were a mastery format done like TT cd’s we would be all about that. My son had done 7th grade, pre alg, alg 1 and started geometry in TT when we did the ACE diagnostics. He had forgotten most of the 7th grade math by this time. He is 15. He chose to do the ACE 7th grade math this year to master what he had forgot. He was far ahead for his age so I was fine with that decision.

It is far from basic. I know of a kid that finished 10th grade level and passed into 1st year college. It gets to college level at the high school level. Peraonally, I feel like it is unnecessary to get this complex.
