Hi. Your post triggered my PTSD. Im 56 and have been using cut off wheels for a few decades. I also took off my guard so I could get in spaces better. Never had a problem until the last year. Was cutting off a chain link fence that was nailed to these telephone poles. Was cutting all day and was done except one strand of chain link was still nailed so I had one more cut. Leaned over cut the last chain link and the the blade exploded and chunk the size of jagged quarter went into my wrist pretty deep. Was afraid to pull it out and drove to the emergency room with it in. They Xrayed it and were not sure if it was in a artery or not. When they pulled it out they had the vascular surgeon on standby and the crew were in full suits so they wouldnt get blood spray on them. Luckily it didnt hit anything major so they stitched it up and away I went. Alittle bit of post tramatic stress with this cutoff wheel now. Got over it somewhat and last week was cutting off a chunk of aluminum and the cutoff wheel jumped and went across my thump and back to the emergency room I went. More stitches, 7, and a tight tendon that will have to stretch in time. Ive used this thing for 30 plus years never with a worry. My luck ran out. Guess my point is be careful. I dont think its worth it for the copper. I have more skills then time so I will get my money a safer way. I look for the easy metal and money now. PS I was warned a few times throughout the years about cutoff wheels and blew them off. Thanks

Oh man...what a story... I know right off the batt cut off wheels for some reason do not like aluminum definitely acts differently... Working with grinders and cut off wheels is extremely extremely dangerous. Even if you have all the proper safety equipment they are still super dangerous. I do appreciate you posting a comment and keeping everyone current with real life stories. I appreciate it thank you.

Hello scrapper bro IV been cutting open these ac compressors ever so often now and I can't wait to fill a bucket full if copper wire I can't wait to get all of them I have all done
@ChallengeTheBuild
@ChallengeTheBuild 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't take long to fill a bucket and I can tell you a 5 gallon bucket filled with copper windings weighs about 50lbs +/-!! I always keep my compressors for last and save everyone of them for the not so busy days. The scroll compressors take the longest but they are still profitable especially for that side hustle !!! I appreciate you dropping a comment!👍 I have plans to make another similar video explaining the difference in cost$$ between cutting them apart vs not.. Now go get that copper!!🤑🔥

Does the oil have PCP contaminates in it? Also can you use the oil for a lubricant in a pump can?
@ChallengeTheBuild
@ChallengeTheBuild Жыл бұрын
I am not sure about the pcp contaminants you will have to do your own due diligence on this, and as for a lubricant, I have heard a lot of people use it for air tool oil but other then that I am not sure. Maybe start by looking at the different types of oil used in the systems then look at basic ingredients 🤷‍♂️. Lots of information out there... Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting...

Would you recommend or buy the same plasma cutter again ? I see the forney 251 for $369.00 which makes it affordable, and if it allows you to process the units faster it pays for itself anyway.

Does the effort per hour justify the money is what im asking 2024 June prices Indiana
@ChallengeTheBuild
@ChallengeTheBuild Ай бұрын
I know that if I had a few hundred compressors laying around I would cut the apart yes. The key is getting into a system that works and then once you get it figured out soeed will naturally follow. Once I found my rhythm I could do 4 - 6 an hour and even if prices are low I feel like it would be worth it. 🤷‍♂️. You could always run a test too. Cut and clean 10 units, track your time and then cash in everything from the 10 units and then run the numbers to determine if it is worth it or not for you...👍👍 Good luck be safe.
@ChallengeTheBuild
@ChallengeTheBuild Ай бұрын
That would be something for you to decide... That is why I suggested running a test. Good luck and be safe.

Sir how much profit can i make in a fridge compresser and plz tell all metals part in fridge compresser I want to start fridge compresser scrap business
@ChallengeTheBuild
@ChallengeTheBuild 4 жыл бұрын
That's sorta a tough question to answer just because of so many variables. When it comes to profit I have no idea because it would all depend on the price of scrap at the time also, how long it takes to cut them apart, and how you acquire them. As far as the metals I would say most of it is going to be light iron with a very small percentage being precious metals...Good luck on your endeavor and thanks for the comment!👍

You didn't need to cut the other end wires off. Those wires slide out easy by using a hook shape rod, pulling the copper loops on one end. Put the stator in a large vise first to hold it though. More cutting = less copper. And using 1mm thick blades makes all the difference too. Looks like you needn't cut the top off at all. The difference between heavy and light steel ain't worth the discs getting used. But then they're not all arranged the same inside. Last one I opened, cut the top off, slit the side and the motor slid straight out when I upended it. Next time I'll drill the top and drain the oil first as I cut them on their side!
@ChallengeTheBuild
@ChallengeTheBuild Жыл бұрын
I sort of changed my method a little bit, see it here in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iq6cZddk2tS0oKc.html . I like to cut both sides off then hammer out the rest. I feel it's easier and faster 🤷‍♂️ I have tried it multiple different ways and just keep coming back to my original way. I also don't think there is a wrong way, as long as we get the same result and do it safely.. 👍 Thanks for watching and commenting...

Depending on the style, size of the compressor and the current price of scrap, once broken down I average $12-$15 total between light/heavy/copper.. Generally takes me 10-15 minutes per compressor...again all depends on style.. scroll compressors take a little longer compared to piston style pumps... hope this helps...

Not worth the time? Or not worth $10 in copper?.. I can have one torn down in 15-20 minutes depending my mood (faster if you have a plasma cutter), and at current scrap prices there is approximately $15+/- of copper in each motor...it adds up especially if you just do it on the side on them rainy days...and you can also recycle and filter the oil, makes good air tool oil... It's definitely not for everyone. I appreciate the comment..makes for good dialog...👍
