Randy (Jamie Kennedy) and Mickey (Timothy Olyphant) get into a discussion on the value of film sequels and whether life can imitate art.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A year after the monstrous success of 1996's neo-slasher flick Scream, director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson reunited for this follow-up. Since viewers last saw the characters, nosy newswoman Gale Weathers has written a sleazy best-selling book based on the events of the first film, a book that has been adapted into a Hollywood film called Stab, starring Tori Spelling as Sydney Prescott. The real Sydney (Neve Campbell) has since gone away to college in Cincinnati in hopes of leaving the horrific events of her past behind her. Unfortunately, at a showing of Stab, two college students are murdered in a fashion that is reminiscent of the slayings that took place back in Woodsboro. Suddenly, Sydney, her pal Randy (Jamie Kennedy), and dopy deputy Dewey (David Arquette) find themselves once again pursued by a ruthless masked killer. Among the other potential killers and victims are Sarah Michelle Gellar, Laurie Metcalf, and Liev Schreiber.

Max A, I have to agree. Generation X had a high number of performers that were very likable. Not to say Generation Y doesn't have their fair share of likable stars as well. The main problem is that most of the ones in Gen Y that are put in the limelight and given attention the most are the ones with zero talent while the ones with actual natural talent are held back.

The line in Aliens is "Get away from her, you bitch." So, yes, in the movie Randy Meeks is wrong. However, it was scripted that Joshua Jackson was supposed to say, "Stay away from her, you bitch," and Randy would correct him. When Joshua Jackson said the line right (instead of wrong, like in the script), Jamie Kennedy (Randy Meeks) switched the lines to keep the flow of the scene going. Why Director Wes Craven kept this take is unknown.

I've read a comment somewhere that said it could be interpreted as Randy being off on his movie knowledge, hence him dying later in the film, because he was not acting particularly smart in that scene either

Probably because everything else worked and he probably figured something else would get screwed up in the retake. Also keeping in mistakes when they're are small makes the film feel less scripted.

This hinted at Mickey being a Ghostface. Aside from him going so hard to defend sequels in general, it was him also dismissing Randy's trauma saying movies played a role. His motivation, in the end, equated to him wanting attention but even in the 1990s was he not going to be taken seriously.

Funny enough, in scream 2 Matthew Lillard (Stu and Shaggy) came back for a short scene. In scream 2 you can see him in the crowd during the frat party right before Micky talks to Randy. He was dating Neve Campbell at the time, so he decided to be an extra in scream 2.

While part of a trilogy, the 3rd film was never planned. The director did it for the cash. Empire is iffy. While Lucas did plot out a long story. He didn't know if he'd make a film beyond A New Hope. Also a lot of things got changed from his drafts to the final product. Now ROTJ though was very much planned as well as the prequels. The new set of films were also planned to be a trilogy from the start.

As much as I'm not a big fan of the series, I have to say this scene alone holds the test of time. There are still people who believe that killers were influenced by movies (or video-games in general) for their actions. And the modern news media who are ham-fisting their political beliefs of art being responsible for someones actions don't help the situation at all. And there will always be a flock of sheep who will blindly follow the biased newsletter media to succumb to the moral majority. That and acknowledging the superiority of the original Alien over the inferior sequel is always a great tune for our ears. But I do believe there are sequels that surpass the original. For a Few Dollars More and Evil Dead 2 are some of the examples.

(Just with a worse ending. 💔) I personally could've seen Randy and Sidney get together, had Randy been alive in 3 ..and maybe even 4. I could've seen it when they were more grown up. I think they could've opened that door. Doesn't matter, whether that happened or not, Randy ultimately being killed off (especially this early) was a mistake. Shouldn't have happened. I think Sidney deserved to have another long time, close friend survive with her, besides Dewey. (And since Tatum died, it should've been Randy.) At least 3 gave him a better send off with his video, so there's that..cause his death was just sad. Favorite character, along with Dewey & Sidney.

There is a Popular Saying that says that the 2nd Parts are not good, and more or less true, obviously there are Exceptions, 2nd Parts that are Excellent and maybe Better than the First, such as, Rambo II, Terminator 2, Aliens (Alien 2), Star Wars Ep. 5, Friday the 13th Part 2, Scream 2, Evil Dead 2, The Godfather Part 2, Shrek 2, Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, X2: X-Men United / X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2, or The Dark Knight. But generally Yes, the sequels are the worst, because all you do is use what worked in 1, and repeat it in 2 a little more exaggerated and with a little more money, but much worse than all that, is not having the participation of the Protagonist who managed to work 1! Curiously, Jamie Kennedy, who played Randy in this Franchise, got to star in one of the sequels that nobody asked for ... The Son of the Mask ... !!!

Mickey in my opinion was the best serial killer the girl was good too in the entire Scream series but I do like the two serial killers in the first film. Scream 1 and 2 the best comedy slasher films ever. After 3 it wasn't the same. You can't beat the first two films.

@ Well... he had an actual motive/reason. Stu was mentally unbalanced (not that MIckey wasn't of course) but in a way where he was just easily influenced by Billy despite how serious a killing spree is, he just saw it as fun (and thought that's why they was doing it), a joke, etc. I've been convinced for years that once I saw Stu's shocked look after Billy told Sis about her mother and his father that Stu never had ANY idea Billy had an actual reason/agenda for starting this up.

I agree with him that most of the horror movie sequels don't come near the first movie, but the biggest exception must be Halloween. The second movie was amazing and contained many suspenseful & scary scenes.

Greg Wise I'm gonna have to call it an opinion on that one. The general reviews were not favorable. Many felt it sucked. And besides, it was far from the quality of the original Die Hard. The first movie's simple plot was perfect and clever.

Technically not, because the first ends with him attacking the final girl--leaping out of the lake like some sort of loch ness monster. At first you think it's a dream, like in Carrie, and then she says from her hospital bed--probably paraphrasing--"so that little boy's still there..."

Surprised, since this is a series about slasher films, they didn't mention Friday the 13th Part II or Bride of Frankenstein (since the Universal Monsters were influential on slashers in terms of the structure of their franchise)

I'm in the super super minority on this, but as much as I love "Alien" with all my heart, I hated "Aliens" (just as much as I did 3 and Resurrection ). I cannot get over how completely unnecessary the sequels are. All of the skin crawling horror and suspense with an isolated setting and a titular antagonist surrounded in mystery from "Alien" gets thrown in the garbage and replaced with standard cliche '80s action fluff with bland forgettable masculine characters that are just there to shoot up a bunch of now easily killable aliens (which completely contradicts Ash's words in the first movie), whose biology is explained away as space drone bees / soldier ants protecting a queen in "Aliens". I mean, for God's sake. This is supposed to be a sequel to "Alien", not a space-themed remake of "THEM"! To me, it feels like Mr Egomaniac himself James Cameron (who I don't have much respect for anymore) just wanted to make another action flick, right off the heels of his Magnum opus "The Terminator", only with someone else's creation. WHY "ALIEN "?! Speaking of biology, why did the aliens need their biology explained?! The whole reason the alien in the first movie was terrifying was because of the mystery surrounding its origins. Aside from the facehugger and the chest burster, we knew nothing about it! The only thing we had to go off of was Ash's admiration for it and that it couldn't be destroyed (in fact, it probably didn't die when it got sent into space by Ripley at the end)! The audience's imagination ran wild as to where it came from and that's GREAT! "But no. They're just drone bees / soldier ants now. Meh." Again, why did "Alien" need to be turned into a franchise? I don't get it.

I just hate that everyone generally doesn't care about sequals. The biggest example is friday the 13th, sure its a good movie but everyone who wants to watch a friday the 13th just goes straight to the original. I mean come on people! Like try watching part 6 first or something!

You have to watch the original first... This way you see its not Jason the first time, you see the one of the most classic scares in all of horror cinema at the end, and you get the foundation for laid for the sequels... Would you watch Scream 3 first?
