Fun Fact: Domhnall Gleeson appeared in 4 movies this year. All of them received multiple Oscar nominations The Revenant: 12 Star Wars: The Force Awakens: 5 Brooklyn: 3 Ex Machina: 2 So his movies this year accounted for 22 Oscar nominations! He should give his agent a raise!

The oscars aren't supposed to be diverse, they're supposed to get in on merit and merit only, giving people oscars just because they're a minority is idiotic and disrespectful to both minorities and actors. If they are diverse, mores the better, but not intentionally. It trivializes the minority actors by saying that they need a leg up to stand beside majority actors which is incredibly condescending. P.S. The Big Short was great and for how complicated it was they did a great job to make it understandable to the layman. P.P.S. A gay drama is the bread and butter of the oscars, they get nominated all the time.

You kind of contradict yourself at the end by saying "a gay drama is the bread & butter of the oscars & will always get nominated" that statement sounds like the voters will nominate movie about LGBT community whether it's good or not. Since films are subjective If people don't fuller understand a the scope of a film that could cause a great movie to fall to the waist side. Beast of no nations blows Brooklyn out the water for best picture & in my opinion trumps the big short... I do understand the core of what you are saying. Merit should always be the deciding factor.

On principle, I completely agree with you. Nominating someone for their ethnicity completely undercuts the meaning of the award. However that isn't really the issue, it's that ethnic people did throw their hat in the ring for a nomination, and (this is where my opinion takes over) they deserved recognition because their work was exceptional. I thought Ryan Coogler's direction for Creed was much better than most of the other Best Director nominees. And, though I myself haven't seen it, people seem to think Beasts of No Nation's in the same boat. Nobody's saying that the Academy should nominate black people just for the sake of it; at least I hope nobody is. Rather, the Academy should nominate people, regardless of ethnicity, who deserve it, exactly what you said. It's just questionable whether or not they're actually doing that.

Surest bet is HANDS DOWN Ennio Morricone for Best Score. The guy has been such an icon in film scoring since the early days, single-handedly INVENTED the Western score style. He's right up there with John Williams on a prestige level. AND HE'S NEVER WON A REAL OSCAR (won an honorary one back in 2007, but what the heck is that bullshit). He's been criminally undernominated throughout his career, there's no score that can really touch Hateful Eight's this year, plus the Academy love a narrative.

1. Replace Jennifer Lawrence in Best Actress with Charlize Theron, who transformed herself as Furiosa much like she did when she won for Monster in 2004, while Jennifer just played herself in a mediocre movie. 2. The Revenant 3. Inside Out for Best Animated Feature, to make up for that LEGO snub from last year 4. Best Voiceover or Mo-Cap Performance: Amy Poehler as Joy from Inside Out 5. Andrew Rannells - He can sing and dance, and he's young enough. And with his Book of Mormon co-star Josh Gad suddenly in everything now, it's only a matter of time before Rannells is. 6. Hans Gruber B1. Anchorman B2. Shallow Hal - Wasn't nominated for any Razzies B3. Jupiter Ascending (unintentionally, of course) B4. Django Unchained

I mean Blue Is The Warmest Colour is a movie that dealt with similar subject matter but the characterization was leaps and bounds ahead of Carol and lead it to being a better movie overall. Carol was a decent film. It was great in its technical aspects but when it came to its story and characters, I couldn't say it was more than ok.

+MsLm97 I like this category - it's similar to the best casting director category that was suggested. I would also like to see a second best song category. Best original song and then Best adapted song. Because so often a song will be used that was not written for a movie, but works so well for the movie. Also, when a musical is adapted, they either have to write another song (usually for the end credits) or face not getting nominated (because it's all existing music).
@tomleonard830
@tomleonard830 8 жыл бұрын
MsLm97 It's not just for musicals. It's any movie that uses a pre-existing song. Obviously musicals (and music biopics) will do well in this category, but what about Resevior Dogs with "Stuck in the Middle", Almost Famous with "Tiny Dancer" Songs are so important in movies and it sucks that they don't count unless they are written for the movie.

Ria Bhandarkar Probably because the year that it had its best shot (2001/2 Oscars) was the year Fellowship Of The Ring won. All the other scores for the franchise were building off John Williams' original material. While the franchise had some of the best music in a long time, the individual scores weren't always the best of the year. The only ones other than the Philosopher's Stone that might have had a solid shot were Desplat's for Deathly Hallows - and those were up against the 2011 music category (one of the BEST years in recent film music history - Inception, HTTYD, Social Network, 127 Hours and King's Speech) and the 2012 one (aka the year with The Artist - no dialogue, utter reliance on music, always going to win). He should have been nominated at least. Still, very solid musical franchise, very consistent, just not stand out enough to merit a slot (apart from the first year when they lost to LOTR).

Biggest snub: Inside Out for Best Picture
@ChristopherFonseka
@ChristopherFonseka 8 жыл бұрын
+Movie Monster Because I don't think a movie is less deserving of one category because it happens to be nominated for a different one. I believe Inside Out deserves to stand next to the other films in that category because it was one of the Best Pictures of 2015. How it was made is irrelevant.
@ChristopherFonseka
@ChristopherFonseka 8 жыл бұрын
+Movie Monster I agree with your second point about it being unfair for a type of movie to have two categories. I would like to know why you think it holds absolutely no ground for best picture. If the "Best Animated" category didn't exist, do you think it should be up for best picture?
@kelex12
@kelex12 8 жыл бұрын
I didn't even like Inside Out. I haven't like a Pixar movies since Toy Story 3 (2010). I don't understand why everyone is praising it so much. Completely overrated. Besides, it's up for best animated film. I don't think animated movies should be allowed to compete for best picture when they have their own category. Also, there's lots of films I'd put for Best Picture over Inside Out. Creed being one.
@ducdang399
@ducdang399 8 жыл бұрын
+Movie Monster it is animation but doesn't mean it's solely for kids. People said it's predictable because they want kids to understand the surface meaning, at the same time the movie is complicated and mature enough for adults to understand the deepest meaning. Inside out is fun and understandable for children but also thought provoking and touching for people of all ages.simple, beautiful, clever that is what the movie really is.i don't think getting 94 on metacritic( based on 48 critics) is an ordinary film. People always overlook animated movies( only up , toy story 3 , beauty and the beast made the cut) but lots of films that were made by Ghibli and Pixar can stand next to those best picture nominees.The best picture category can be expanded to 10 slots and I think carol and inside out deserve the last two.

I don't think that Disney/Pixar's Inside Out deserves to be nominated for best original screenplay. The idea has been done many times before in other movies and tv shows. And the movie follows the same formula that we're already so used to seeing in other Disney/Pixar films: where both of the main characters who hate each other are suddenly thrust from their original environment and into a new one and are now forced to travel through different settings to get back where they want to be.

And I don't agree with those who say it had a weak story. Was it a simple story, sure, but it wasn't weak. There are no plot holes, every character has a justified character arc, the back stories are fantastic, and there's a guy with a flame guitar! Just give it the award! Actions movies can win (rarely) as shown by LOTR: Return of the King.
