That's exactly what my mother said when we saw the movie! I was so excited and then, when it was over, my mother leaned to me and said, "For a movie titled 'Crimes of Grindelwald' he really isn't committing any crimes"!

@@vepmoon96 I thought the film was pretty good. It certainly had flaws, but overall I enjoyed the wonderful visuals and the intriguing symbolism. And specifically about the crimes thing that's been circulating around, Grindelwald does commit and order countless murders, among them burning a majority of the auror squad alive and almost obliterating the entire city of Paris. Don't forget his engineered path of clues that manipulated Credence. Grindelwald's method of manipulation is really quite something. He exploits Credence's desperation for his true heritage. To put Credence in simpler terms, think Harry, but the Vernons beat him regularly, and he knows that he is a wizard for years. Think about how much one such as Credence would give just to know his true name. Harry always wanted to know more about his parents after all. About the anger surrounding the twist at the end about Credence, personally I believe Grindelwald is lying; converting Credence's desperation into ambition and hatred now that he knows his true heritage, and directing all that destructive potential to a singular source, just like how a real dictator would work on a larger scale. Grindelwald tries the same form of exploitation on Leta, specifically mentioning how she had been rejected by wizard society because of her family's practices. There is an arch for Leta about her views on her self-worth. She was after all the unloved child, but her feelings of injustice were completely destroyed when she committed the crime of accidently dooming her brother. It's the source of her fear, and the anchor that firmly cements her view of herself that she isn't worth it. She tries to deny this supposed truth by making herself a friend of Newt, but tragically, her arch comes to a close when she decides to sacrifice herself for her loved one, choosing someone else over her own life. While it was heroic to fight the person that wishes to destroy the system that oppressed her, ultimately this means her decision on her self-worth is that she, when considering her past crime, is lesser than those around her. Despite the limited runtime, J.K. really did manage to pour in that detail, and there's plenty set up for the sequel to be excited about. My major gripes with the movie would be how densely packed to information is, often being presented so quickly that you would miss something significant if you let your attention slip for a second, and the lack of development or sophisticated character for Nagini, Grimson, and (I agree with you on this character Honest Trailer) the man that made the Unbreakable Vow to kill Credence. Otherwise, I enjoyed this movie even when considering how harsh some of the flaws are, and I look forward to the sequel.

She had been at Hogwarts for 50 years when Tom Riddle wanted ther seat, but she might have taught something else too. And some subjects might have been taught by different professors for different age groups at one point. It is a small loophole, but Rowling used it. It's a pun on the name of another popular book series written by another Brit (Philip Pullman) called "His Dark Materials". They were published around the same time as the Harry Potter books and were also aimed at children and adults. The first book was made into a film years ago under the name "The Golden Compass", and the BBC are adapting it into a tv series that is being released later this year.

magicmulder he only killed a few people at the very end with the blue flames but one could consider some of those self defence since the ministry planned to kill him. In fact most of the killing in the movie were done by his follows and the ministry of magic!. Also Grindelwald didnt order the death of the child. He walked away. You cant exactly blame Grindelwald for murders his followers commit that would be like blaming Voldemort for the murders his followers committed.

I think it should've been "The Rise of grindelwald." Also, there's a theory that Credence is Dumbledore's dark twin (you know, someone seperating their obscurial from themselves resulting in a dark twin somehow), and as for the avada kedavra....yeah, I've got nothing there.

The Dumbledore thing is called cliffhanger and will be declared as a lie from Grindelwald in the next movies. There were just two siblings next to Albus, and it's not possible for his Parents to have a child in that age because his mother died and his father got imprisoned after killing some muggles. Only possible way would be that Aberforth got a child....

Considering how Leta was the unloved child, the motivation was certainly there. It's just that what was initially meant as a mean trick went horribly out of proportion.

I still don't fully understand what the hell was going on with that backstory. Like seriously, I felt like it was explained so poorly in the movie that I wasn't sure what child was what and why I should care.

My gf (read every book) and I were in the cinema for this movie and I was so lost and put up a blank face when the backstory was dropped. She thought I would be one of the few people who don't understand it. She has since revoked her opinion :D

Other than the fact that the name sells because it's a reference to an actual in-universe Hogwarts textbook? It's like if you have another movie called 'Quidditch Through the Ages' and the main story is instead about a sinister plot to overthrown the British Parliament and take control of the Muggle world or something, with some Quidditch thrown in on the sides to attract HP fans to watch it and justify its title. Those are fun to watch, yes, but the tone will contrast heavily with the actual main storylines that are barely related to the title at all.

It's not a huge plot hole, though, since it has nothing to do with the plot and is in no way huge anything. It's merely an insignificant continuity error, at least as long as she doesn't get any actual role in the later films. Even if she does, it'll still just be a continuity error. CS did miss the change to point it out, tho.

How about the fact that Credence is Dumbledore's brother? Come on, if that was the case then the entire subplot of Grindelwald, Albus, and Aurelius accidentally killing their sister Ariana couldn't have happened in the first place. They show that Credence's parents died on the ship when it sank and he was just a baby. Ariana wasn't even born yet and still some how years later they met in school and eventually killed her splitting the brother's apart? Yeah.... Talk about a plot hole.

I can't comment about the other films that you've missed. But I commend you for not seeing this one. I so wanted a refund after watching it in the theaters on its first week. The story is just awful. It's like a really bad fanfiction.

My trick is to watch none of the spinoffs. It's worked so far.
