Might not agree with all of his choices, but Coy's def one of my favorite fighters. He knows his stuff, he makes great arguments, brings up a lot of relevant facts, and is extremely efficient with the amount of time he takes to plead his case.

Hell, round 4 was a mess. Coy didn't take movie characters but comic book sidekicks. He shouldn't have been disqualified. And Jon only was whining about the prequels and bashing Jar Jar, which is really getting old. JTE was the only one who answered the question properly. That alone should have gotten him the point. But also his pitch was by far the most interesting of all three... Dan did a great job as judge but round 4 was effed up!

I completely agree. I'm watching and thinking the same thing. Then JTE asks a reasonable question about which movie Superboy was in and Dan says let me worry about the rules. That's fair if you then ask him, because as far as I could tell he didn't even use one movie sidekick. Even with Robin, he doesn't use the one from Batman and Robin.

JTE's objections during the "Pitch a movie" round were spot on. The question was pretty clear - take movie character sidekicks to star in a movie. "What movie was Tim Drake in?" is a valid question. "What movie was Superboy in?" is a valid question. I'm surprised that nobody behind the scenes shut that answer down well ahead of time. He never should have been given a pass for that. The only movie character sidekick he named was Robin, and he didn't even want to use that Robin. He wanted to use a different Robin. It's like saying, "My sidekick is Hawkeye, from the Avengers. But instead of the Jeremy Renner Hawkeye, this movie stars the Alan Alda Hawkeye from MASH."

Can't call yourself "Screen Junkies" if you only ever talk about superhero films, remakes franchises, sequels and prequels and all that rubbish. Yes its topical and there should always be a place on it every week but you never seem to talk about great movies from the past. In fact any movie from before 1980 (or 1970 at a stretch) you just patch. Talk about other things like foreign films (like M and bicycle thieves), film noirs (like double indemnity), Westerns (like the dollars trilogy) or silent films (like the Chaplin films). I'm 18 and I've been trying to watch all of the imdb top 250 (I'm on 93 at the moment) and have been surprised at how good movies some of these "classic" films are as i had naively thought that they would be outdated and wouldn't hold up today. You have an opportunity to introduce modern audiences to classic films (which they otherwise won't watch) and frankly the topics on movie fights are just plain tired due to overuse so would be more interesting. Please have a dedicated question every week for older films.

Actually lets get this straight - some genius out of nowhere starts mocking me, because he is a fanboy-hater and can't get along with different opinions, so who's 12 years old after that? I didn't say this is the best movie as fact or smth, it's just an opinion, so calm your fanboyism down!

christopher the fantastic fascist you are acting like a fanboy, mocking thoughts and this cliched ageism totally shows how you're trying to convince others of you being old (enough?) and ingenious, which is one of the factors of being fanboy. Fair enough. I thought Civil War was the most overrated, average & disjointed movie I've seen in a long while. The civil war didn't exist.... it was Civil Fun Day Out At The Airport, a battle scene with no consequences. People, & I'm not including you in this by the way, but a lot of people just jump on the hype train of a movie when it's being received well critically. In my opinion, SPIDER MAN is just thrown in there, you don't even see how he got his outfit. Talking of his outfit, he looked totally cartoonish & CG throughout the airport battle scene..... as did IRON MAN, with his pasted on head.... & at the end of the battle, when Tony checks Spidey is ok, his costume looks totally different, fabric & cheap.... yet no one ever brings this up. Civil Fun Day Out At The Airport.... & sending a letter to Tony to say sorry.... & yet people hate on the Martha scene.... sigh.... & I don't even like BvS.🙄 Doesn't matter how hard you argue... Civil War is boring in my opinion. End of.

+DEATH it requires a suspension of disbelief, immerse yourself in the wonder and magic. it's a story of a world where you don't age, fairies and mermaids exist, and you can fly by simply maintaining happy thoughts. that is hardly the setting for gritty realism. if they had fought the pirates with swords and daggers, killing and maiming everyone, I would not enjoy this movie anywhere as much

the movie itself isn't without its plot holes though, like if you don't age in never never land, and Peter pan was brought there as a toddler, shouldn't he have stayed as a toddler forever? but what ever, doesn't take away of the fun the movie provides

SING STREET!!! One of the few people who saw it here, and I brought family and friends back to the theatre for multiple viewings. The music was so beautiful, and the film itself was hilarious and heartbreaking and heartwarming. As the oldest sibling in my family I absolutely loved the portrayal of the relationship between the two brothers. And yeah, I have been listening to the soundtrack on repeat since I watched it. Such a brilliant film.

Sabine A. Lol it's you again. Mate CW is a geric superhero film with more superheroes than usual and after watching it twice I have no desire to watch it again. Funnily enough I really liked it the first time I watched it. The second time I was impatient to get to the fights. None of the characters were interesting enough for me to care the second time round. It felt generic and I could almost see the writers plotting it in the most generic way.
@rikudoubapeck
@rikudoubapeck 8 жыл бұрын
TastyDash BvS isn't generic. You may not like it but it isn't generic. It's big while being small and it is more about the implication, metaphors and ideas behind the mythological characters they are presenting on screen than whatever story is happening now. It's about hope in a very unique way that no other superherofilm has done. What is more inspirational than one man inspiring another to remember the hope he once had? It's also a commentary on america today vs. america in the past on every level. It's the smart one because it recognises superman and batman were created for a specific purpose and were never simply comic book characters like the marvel counterparts (Cap not included) and explores that purpose. The themes and ideas in BvS resonate so much with the world today it's ridiculous. You do not even need to read between the lines, it's right there especially man's fears and the bad decisions it's leads to. CW was interesting the first time around but it, for me, was too removed from the real world while feeling like it took place in the real world which made it worse. Let me explain it's like it had events happen in our world and trivialised the effects almost making it seem like the characters are close to us but not too close. I watched something where the Russos admitted they wanted the films to feel one step removed from reality. As a result you ultimately get fun stories with cool characters but that is all it is. BvS touched my soul and I have NEVER related to anyone more than when Batman told Clark the only way the world makes sense is if you force it to. The moral lessons are there in the film. I preferred the comic of civil war because it taught a hard lesson the same as BvS and that is when superheroes fight it is not only a horrible event that should be depicted as the worst thing to happen, a real tragedy,but also that when they do fight no one wins. Cap 3 kind of shoed that at the end but it back pedaled and ultimately Cap didn't have to question himself as much as he should have. It was annoying watching this man break the law and ignore 127 countries based on his wants and then pretend he was above it all and right. At least in the comic Cap recognised he was not serving the people anymore which reflected the changing american concience. Cap 3 didn't even look at that and because of it's ficitonal take in a real world environment it can be viewed as disingenuous and uninterested in teaching moral lessons. BvS showed you no matter how hard and dark things get the issues we think are so important are never as heavy as they seem. Something as simple as Batman remembering why he became batman in the first place to put things into perspective therefore comes out as more meaningful in the long term. Anyway you can like what you like and as I said I liked Cap 3 the first time. No need to hate.

I don't think these guys know what "underrated" means. It's not underseen or underappreciated. It's underrated. Iron Man - 94% on RT, 7.9 on IMDB Kick-Ass - 76% on RT, 7.7 on IMDB... not to mention it's not from the last decade, it's from this decade :P Hellboy II - 85% on RT, 7.0 on IMDB

Azaghal1988 in that case they could have come up with much better examples of underRATED films: - X-Men Apocalypse - The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Fantastic Four - Green Lantern - Green Hornet - Iron Man 2 - Punisher War Zone - Watchmen - Spider-Man 3 - Fantastic Four: rise of the Silver Surfer These are all films that were RATED low. And sure some of them are bad but you could make a case they're on as bad as the rating and some of them are pretty good (Watchmen, Punisher, even Apocalypse)
@Azaghal1988
@Azaghal1988 8 жыл бұрын
LelekPL most of them are rated low because they're really bad. The Fantastic Four-Movies are a mess, Green lantern is at best worth being mocked etc. The only one on your list i watched, liked and watched a second time is Watchmen. The rest is "meh" at best.
@LelekPLN
@LelekPLN 8 жыл бұрын
Azaghal1988 I mostly agree (although I do enjoy Apocalypse and War Zone as well, and I don't think that the Spider-Man movies were as bad as people say... but that's neither here nor there) but they are rated low. If you want a controversial discussion about what is underrated (so going against the popular opinion) these are the films they should have used. The films they used are already rated high. So you can't say they're UNDERrated. They're just properly rated. I know it's semantics but that's the word they chose. They could have said underappreciated or underseen and we would have a different conversation. But one thing a 94% or 85% movie isn't is underrated ;)
@Azaghal1988

LelekPL underrated means they're rated lower than they deserve. Like Shawshank at release. It bombed and had no success, even though it's one if the best movies (and took the place it deserves)

Round 1: Though I have never even heard of JTE's pick, he seems to have made the better argument; a universal story with real life lessons. Deadpool is awesome, and Civil War is the MCU's best movie in my opinion, but JTE's argument was stronger for me. Round 2: Hellboy 2 was not good in my opinion Kick Ass was fun Iron Man 1 is my 2nd favorite MCU movie. If I had to pick one of them, I'll pick Kick Ass. But Dredd was awesome. Round 3: I'll pick Cesar from Planet of the Apes Round 4: The Star Wars pitch 😁; also, Coy doesn't seem to have followed the rules of the question. Round 5: 1941, never saw it, but interesting argument.

Calum Bourne if your talking to me...then no it's not the only movie I have ever seen. But that a zootopia are the best films I have seen this year..they're the only ones without horrible edditing(BvS), shit story(civil war , independence day and jungle book), and awful climaxes(x men apocalypse), they also don't jump around in time...and take away front he action(deadpool), they don't completely copy the movie be for them(finding dory), they don't have horrific CGI and racial problems(gods of Egypt) and they aren't too short(central intellligence), they don't trash anything they might be based on (BFG), aren't confusing if you aren't familiar with the lore(warcraft), the characters don't act like loonies unless the story demands it(alice through the looking glass), aren't an unwanted sequel(huntsman), aren't based on an app with no story(angry birds), don't have a ridiculous premise centeredness on Victorian zombies(P+P+Z) and aren't too cringey(Zoolander2)....those are all of the films I have seen and I like most of them and I like a few more than 10 clover field lane...but it feels like that is the best quality wise...throughout out subjectivity.

ETgohome13 hey no! I am not attacking anyone.....I just feel like these two are the most well made films......they're not my favourites...personal favourites of the year would be BvS and deadpool. But that is personal to me. I guess. Clover field lane could be criticized for the ending...but that film constantly had me on edge and left me more intrigued. Zootopia doesn't really have any problems.....but I still cannot stand it. It has good story, characters and great voice acting...it also has twists and turns in the story and isn't too predictable. I cannot stand that film though..but its probably the most well made film yet. All the others there have issues....the only issue I can think of for dystopia is that it attracts furries.

+DEATH Ok, I get it. You don't need to say the same thing five times. But I agree, the climax is the weakest part of the movie. It seemed like Spielberg tried too hard to make this a family-friendly action scene and it comes off as forced with a lot of things that don't make much sense. But I thought the rest of the movie was pretty solid. There are so many good things about: the adventure, the atmosphere, the music, Dustin Hoffman's performance, and so much more. I guess it's just the nostalgia, but nothing will change my mind about this movie. I have always loved it and I always will, in spite of its flaws.

I know it's all subjective but a by the books pretty simple fun blockbuster popcorn movie is not and should not ever be the best movie of the year. It's like saying Jurassic world was the best movie of 2015...

+Zach Baker By what books? And why not? If it's a really exciting and entertaining movie, then of course it can be the best. Being extremely realistic, serious and snobish doesn't necessarily qualify a movie to be the best either.

+Zach Baker difference is that CW's characters are great and their relationships were emotional and relatable ...JW is a stupid and hollow nostalgia porn...with bad action and set-pieces. CW is an incredible tense and emotional action movie, probably one of the best in the last 10years..but ok, you're definitely entitled to your shitty opinion😉

I want to see a special edition Movie Fights where Dan and Coy go at it just in a ton of speed rounds. The way Coy takes a pause before he begins and then rapid fire lists so many points and can actually make a good argument will be the perfect opponent to Dan who is currently the best speed round fighter because he can make succinct points very quickly. Not a title match, just a sweet special edition.

So basically if it's not a super hero movie we can't talk about it? This channel is slowly falling into being just super hero movie reviews. Sing Street deserves more respect. Can this channel start talking about more movies other than ones with capes?

+TastyDash Trying to hold back my vomit reading that. Holy cow, just because blockbusters are blockbusters doesn't mean smaller films should never get coverage or recognition. You sound like an insane person with the amount of smugness and righteousness you take in that. That's like saying that, because McDonald's is the biggest restaurant chain on earth, everywhere else should close down and give up.

I think it does need more of a mixture as well! I like Superhero movies like everyone else, but must admit there is alot more to talk about then Marvel/DC releases.... This channel could definately do with a bit of diversity on that front! Especially considering the Guests and the likes of Dan have so much knowledge on film in general...

Personally, I would've given JTE the point in the sidekick round. I felt Coy had a copout answer because Robin was the only sidekick in his pitch who's actually appeared in a movie before, and I don't know what the hell Jon was thinking when he thought Jar Jar Binks was a good idea. JTE was the only one who had a solid pitch with actual movie sidekicks. If I were fighting though, I would have pitched a movie with Jackie Chan's sidekick from Rush Hour, Detective James Carter, and Bruce Willis' sidekick from the Fifth Element, Ruby Rhod.
