There is something that is lost in this. Carolina did not get respect. The play of everyone in front of the zamboni driver won this game. No Leaf could move, pass or shoot the puck. It was perfect reaction from a team that had to face this situation. It was the Leafs from the last game. I would love to have heard the Carolina coach in the second intermission. Carolina stood up.

Food for thought. The Leafs have a grand total of three players on their roster 30 years of age or older: Spezza, Muzzin, and Andersen. Between the three of them, they have an average of 62 games of Playoff experience, that's a minimum of two good Cup runs worth of games. That's great. But excepting those three guys and like, Tavares and Barrie, you're talking a group of 22 to 25 year olds still. Hyman is 27 and feels like an elder statesman on this team. They're inconsistent because they're immature, and Patrick Marleau was such an influence on this team, way more than he's given credit for. This team needs grown men as much as anything else.

I know it isn't the Leaf's but Yzerman said "the 2 things he looks for is hockey sense and COMPETE!!!!"

I like what Adam said. So many of us as children who grew up watching the Leafs would have *died* to play for this team to win the championship. So many of us, who just do not have the talent of these players, dreamed of it. I know for a fact Steve, just like myself, would DREAM of lifting that Stanley Cup at centre ice in Maple Leaf Gardens and listen to that crowd, how proud they would be that we finally brought it back. The players during the pandemic break really need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask "am I just in this for the money? Or do I want to actually win?"

December 2022 and much of the talk in this podcast still holds true for this team. We'll see if it holds true after the 1st round.

If I may offer my own thoughts on the cancellation of the practice Sunday. Everything that happened from Saturday to today, I’m reminded of a similar situation with Edmonton. It was either the 08/09 season or the 09/10 season, but there was a game IN Edmonton where the Oilers played the Buffalo Sabres. They (Edmonton) got SMOKED 10-2. Everyone in that organization was let off the hook for that performance, thus resulting in 0 accountability. What happened? Loser mentality gets let in, nobody is held accountable and the Oilers stink for another 5-6 years. Fast forward to the 16-17 season. 3rd game of the season, IN Edmonton, and Edmonton loses 6-2 to the Sabres. On top of that, the day AFTER the game was one of Edmonton’s CBA mandated days off. Further on top of the that, the day AFTER the day off, the Oilers have a date with the Hurricanes. After the loss to Buffalo, Todd McLellan RIPPED the team in the media availability. Just ripped the team and the players. Call out the performance and stressed the need for them to re-establish a work ethic. So what happened after that? The Oilers practiced ON THEIR MANDATED DAY OFF (something they were later investigated for) and as a result, they won 5 of their final 6 games in October. The fact that Keefe cancelled the practice and Dubas was fine with it, should send up red flags throughout Leafs Nation. And if I was the GM, I could care less if the trade deadline is the next day. Bag skate these entitled kids who think that giving sad sack excuses like “I lacked the will-power” is somehow holding yourself accountable.

That was a major red-flag moment for me, as a fan of Matthews, Dubas, and the team. And then Steve sums it up by pointing out they wouldn't have done this to Lou (48:14) I disagree with Adam's take, here. Two areas where Dubas definitely fumbled, were: 1) not addressing the need for a stay-at-home defenceman, who ideally had a right-hand shot. Barrie was not it (even though I assumed like every other Leafs fan, that he'd improve what we had) 2) Taking way too long to address the back-up situation (both with Sparks, and Hutchinson). Dishonourable mentions could also include the high-level contracts; also, and I might be one of the few who lament the loss of this player, but what Hainsey brought to the back end, and the room, was not filled. I will never understand acquiring Ceci, while letting Hainsey go. Hainsey as a bottom pair D, would've been great. (49:34) Also--I don't think enough has been made about the roster turnover, in the summer. I think that directly relates to Steve's point. That's on the mgmt. Talent and skill matter the most, but 'character' is something that all winning teams have. It hasn't been there, this year, for this team. (57:45) As a big fan of Kasperi, what are you hearing, Steve? You can't just drop a nugget like that, and not elaborate. I would be sad if they traded him (but recognize his potential value as an asset) Are there in-room issues? Thanks for doing this, fellers...been waiting all day, for it

The difference between the raptors and leafs is where the players come from. Siakam, Lowry and van vleet were all later round guys or undrafted. They had to work so hard to become the stars they are and it shows with their work ethic. But with the leafs Tavares Matthews and Marner were told from the age of 10 that they can do no wrong and destine for greatness. They never had to work as hard as the raptors stars to get where they are.

I agree on trading one of the main 4, I never would have guessed I'd ever agree with that but damn something has to happen.

Best Leafs game I have seen since I moved to Toronto from Montreal. It proves that on any given night, any player can have the game of his life - that’s the beauty of sports.
