Rusty Cleaver Restoration

Hello everyone, today I want to show a new restoration. I found this rusty cleaver with a broken handle at a flea market. The shape is interesting, I don't have one, I bought it. Well, let's start the restoration.

As usual, I dismantled the handle. Put it in a special rust remover, then washed, dried and oiled. I sanded the surface of the cleaver with a wire cord brush. Then I started correcting the shape of cleaver. I made new bevels and sharpened the cleaver. I made a new handle made of metal, walnut and deer horn, brass rivets. I also etched drawings on part of the handle. As usual, I made an interesting test for you. I hope, you will enjoy this restoration project.

WOW WOW WOW!!! Another trash to treasure recovery. Especially like the etching of the moose and the leaves along with the contrast coloration. But wait there's more. your chopped beef with onions and spices over pasta is a basic yet yummy meal. Sitting here drooling. BRAVO..

I enjoy your content. How even one can restore blades from rusting or falling apart. Then you go one step more by everyday use by actually using blade for cooking and add the recipe for use. Granted I don't have same cooking skills as you but I likes how practical use even from the work done it's still useful. One can only wish I had such skills. That's why I got the fire pit grill. Keep up your good work and content.

Great job! You have a nice collection of cleavers. The well-made, old cleavers are difficult to fine, here in America. I have a few, but they aren't as nice as yours. Your cleavers definitely have personality. I am impressed. I have learned that older, well made tools, especially hand tools, were made to last. And I do appreciate the care and quality that was used in their manufacturing. It seems that everything made today is designed to function for a few years and then be discarded for a new one. Ahh, well. That is exactly why I enjoy my "old school tools. They are just like me, old and crusty but still going. Thank you my friend.

What a beautifully designed cleaver. I’ve never seen anything like it here in the US. Excellent choice on the handle materials, and the etching was a nice personalizing touch. Have you considered your own “maker’s mark” to etch or stamp into the pieces you do? Well, not a maker’s mark since you don’t actually make them but a signature of sorts. It would not be appropriate for commission pieces you do but I must say that if I had done a job like that cleaver restoration I would want to sign it.

Thank you for your attention and interest! I didn't think about it because I'm still studying here, although a lot of time has passed. But I want to create my own brand and, if possible, apply it after restoration on an object or a scabbard.
