Hello folks! Today, I have a new restoration of the curved knife for you. I found it among other interesting items (I won't say which ones yet - these are future restoration projects). I liked the shape of the knife, the steel seemed good (and I was not mistaken) and I decided to return it to service. We are starting the restoration.
As usual, I dismantled the old handle and rivets from the knife. Next, I placed it in a rust remover, then washed, dried and oiled it.
I started sanding the blade with sandpaper from 40 to 240 grit. After the blade, I degreased and etched with a solution of nitric acid several drawings on the surface of the knife.
The next stage is the handle of the knife. I chose oak wood and brass rivets. Also, for the knife, I carved a scabbard out of wood. Next, I cut out a piece of natural medium-thick leather and glued the surface of the scabbard, and then passed. I also added a leather suspension for carrying a knife.
