Never mind, I figured it out. I had to straighten the Spring in order to have it touched the bottom of the cap and now it works. Thank you for your video it helped me to understand what the brush is for

The brushes apply electricity to the commutator (the shaft that spins inside) creating an electromagnet that is always trying to reorient itself to the magnet around it (the metal around the spinning shaft) and therefore making it spin. The springs pushes the brushes to the spinning shaft for contact, but because of the friction, the brushes will get shorter with time until the spring is not pushing with enough force, and that's when the tool stops working. So, using your rotary tool at full speeds and/or reversing the rotation without stopping do waste more the brushes.

Izaac Wopz thank you! More informative than the video lol! If my brushes are low, what symptoms would be caused? Sparking, whining, and chugging/skipping? Ha ha cause those happen to be my symptoms, and could use some help if you know more. This video just showed me that brushes exist and here’s where they are located. Nothing about if that was my problem, if they were broken, or how to fix/buy/replace them... thanks!

QUESTION! when I tighten the brushes down it make it harder to spin the tip, and won't spin at low speeds. Should I not tighten them all the way?

I have a problem, I have a problem I have bought a brand new hypertough Rotary tool. And no it won't start. I was going through the owners manual and I saw about brush replacement, and I was perplexed because my cordless dremmel 8220 does not have the brush. The 8220 being, my very first of these tools, I didn't even know what it was. As I was watching this video, I realized I realized that this must be what my rioby tools mean when they say brushless. So I used the little wrench that they sent with it to open that cap up and after I put it back in, which I did struggle to do.

Because of the angle of that brush that you like you showed us, But one thing that I noticed when you 1st showed the Starting with the dream all that there was metal on the bottom of it now on the bottom of my hyper tough I see paint over the copper. It wasn't an. And I saw the edges were copper where the paint had not gotten all the way over it over it. Could this cause my my unit not to work?

Please take a picture and send it to Dremel. their customer service dept is pretty good at repairing those issues.

Hi quick question. My Dremel stopped working. Is there a way to pinpoint if the problem is with the brushes or something else?
@ScrollsawVideo4 жыл бұрын
Start with the brushes, it is very simple. Next check the switch.

@@ScrollsawVideo I just don't have new brushes. Was just wondering if there is a way to tell before I decide to buy new brushes or new Dremel.

how do you know when you have to change the brushes? thanks for the video!
@ScrollsawVideo6 жыл бұрын
Most times when the tool wont start the first thing to check is the brushes. If you use the tool on a regular basis it is recommended to check every month or so. It only takes a couple of minuted to check the brushes so plan on putting the tool on a monthly check list.

I am trying to replace in a Hyper Tough one and you completely skipped over it. This was absolutely no help.
@zerodashbracket50974 жыл бұрын
You never showed or mentioned the symptoms which would cause the brushes to need to be replaced, not did you then show how to replace one!?! This video was 9 minutes of, “Here are four tools, which I bought at various stores, and some I like better than others. Sometimes your tools break. This is a brush. It can break. I’m not really sure what it does, but here’s where you locate it. It might be your problem, it might not be, but it doesn’t matter because I’m not going to show you whether it is broken, or HOW TO change it anyways. Maybe you could look in the instruction manual, because it could be the problem, whatever problem that may be, and maybe you can buy a new one. Or maybe not! Like and Subscribe!!!” Thanks, Bud!!!!

NOW I'm no expert either - - but - I think those have to do with the internal Grounding of the circuits. .... :-) ... .. Because those caps aint goin' nowhere but Plastic. Yeah? Non-conductive. They are probably needed FOR the circuits of the motor so that it "keeps flipping" , yeah ?
@ScrollsawVideo6 жыл бұрын
Makes sense to me. Thanks for watching.

Yeah no problem. I LIKE how you emphasize the safety. Unplug, and, goggles, and, even a dusk mask !!!! I Just got a Dremel 4000 for Christmas, and, I am excited to begin engraving all TYPES of stuff hahahahaha. Beginners mark on anything they can "get away with" , I can imagine , hahahahaha.
